WoW has been released and there are some early signs of launch problems. Players report to wait/get stuck in a queue for up several hours for the PvP servers down to one hour on low population servers before being allowed to log into the game. Apparently, Blizzard instanced the servers with a low cap to prevent overcrowding the newbie areas.
Excerpt from the WoW moderator:
" Greetings players,
As many people are discussing the server queues, allow me to give some insight on topic.
Server caps have been set lower than normal so there are some people not being allowed onto a server.
While we would like to allow players to enjoy the game on whichever server they choose, we also want to make the launch week game play a positive one for everyone. If there were no server caps during this time, it would result in an extremely high number of people in a small area. Instead we use the server cap method to encourage players to try one of the other numerous servers available in all time zones.
We also saw an issue with a small number of servers incorrectly displaying their player population. This issue has now been corrected.
We thank our players for their patience during this very hectic time. We want to provide the best possible experience, and are working toward that goal even as we speak.
[Update]
If you are playing the game for the first time, and the game is showing you the queue, please go back, and select another server from the server list. Several servers are seeing very high populations, while others are relatively low."
UPDATE: The Blizzard forums report also an extreme server lag now on all servers.
Save yourself some time and trouble and wait a week, especially, if you and your friend want to play on the same server.

WOW tech forums are full of problems about the game, the main problem being at this point is that alot of people cannot even install the game disk.. This happend to me kept giving me some crazy error that the installer could not be found......
Thank god I was in Beta and still had it on my CPU... But my problems didnt stop there now I appear to be bugged all over the place.. I have had problems from quest NPC's not talking to me untill someone else comes along and enables the ! mark over there head to a strange loot bug (not lag) but a bug where im stuck in the kneeling position but can still fight I just cant loot what I kill.....
THese are just a few bugs that are tryign my patience right now and making playing the game impossible... Not to mention the lag that is affecting the servers STILL off and on...Anyways its the first day basicly so im going to give them time ofcourse but I must tell ya things are not going so good right now for alot of people...

Well...at least the servers haven't crashed...yet.
Wow........sounds like Launch has gone to hell for Blizz.....even worse than I thought it would...damn...sad thing too. The game had alot of promise, but they over designed their game to have way to much to soon..then rebuilt half the game during the past few months....one can only hope they catch up in patches fast. As fast as the servers filled up in EQ they were opening new ones..balanced out finally now they're letting peple move around supposedly.
Things will get better on WoW..but how much better is my question and concern. They said and everyone was like oh their servers are so much better than this game or this game..yet they uber low cap them..sounds like a cover up. Anyway happy treading guys the game will thin out in a few days and it'll be easier for those who want to play, to be able to play.

Trying to compare WoW game populations and EQ2 pops is like comparing New York Citys rush hour traffic to Watertown, NY's....EQ2 had a total of alittle over 100k preorders (they said so them selves in a report) that is small time compared to what blizzard is having right now....
Frankly I think you tried to come here and show how well EQ2 is doing with there server pops but you forgot to add there only like 20 people online playing that game...
It sucks right now but most of us are mature enough to realize just what it is that Blizzard is going through and will understand and give them some slack (to a point).. Hopefully the ones not mature enough will quit which will go a long way into making this game have a better community.

I have to monitor servers on a daily basis at work so have a good idea what Blizzard is going through. I believe when Blizzard increased the population levels on the servers because people were waiting over an hour to get in, the servers became overloaded with data, especially in the noobie zones where almost all the players were. Perhaps a server wipe was not a good idea afterall. The population could have been more spread out when the game went live.
still 2 more

I kinda agree .. but can you imagine the bleating / flaming we would have had to have put up with from all the guys not in OB?
Its not to bad a job as stands and on the scale of things the end result is not to bad at all.
Damn fine infact

Yea, Blizzard was in quite a pickle. "Gee, do we wipe and maybe cause server problems or do we keep those in OB so the players are more spread out?". Either way they'd either chance server problems or get flamed from every gamer that bought WoW because they did not make it in OB. I mean, what would you do?
I have a weird hardware (I think) problem where my computer restarts on it's own with no error message or anything so I can't comment on the server reliability. Last night I was seriously considering uninstalling and selling the game to a friend that wants the CE and either gout and buy EQII or restart Lineage ][. So aggrevating to restart and wait 45+ minutes to get back in only to restart again.

Had no issue whatsoever. Installation, account creation, patching and playing all as smooth as possible.
Very different from Horizons launch where nothing worked.
I had this same exact problem during beta where my computer would restart while playing for no reason, with no error message. I found a simple solution someone posted and haven't had one reboot since.
Open up your DirectX configuration (with "dxdiag")
Click on the Sound tab
Set the Sound acceleration to "Basic".
Problem solved for me. I'm not sure exactly what this does, but it did not affect the sound at all, and no more spontaneous reboots for me.

Yea, there was a topic on that in the forums. I followed trhis procedure. It gave me two hours of playing time, then reboot four times in 1 hour. Then it stopped and I was good for another 2 hours until, well, bedtime. The next few days will be a real test as for I have no classes until Monday and studying education is SOOOOOOOOOO much easier than studying Discrete Structures and Advanced Polymers when I was in engineering. I love being lazy.

We had no problems what so ever playing on a PST server. The CST servers where hosed most of the day.
Sadly most of the central pvp servers are jammed. 90% of the repuitable pvp guilds are all going to archomde which is now the heavests played server out there... might need 2 just for this realm alone.
