A question to the Eve haters

LordmonkusLordmonkus Member Posts: 808

If you dislike Eve so much then what games do you prefer and why ?

It seems us Eve players are constantly having to defend the game and why we play. But we never get to hear what your favourite games are and why.

Now are you haters actually going to post your games are or you afraid to get those games ripped to shreds ?

Eve is not the only game I like or play. I do like games like Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, Bioshock, GTA, Battlefield series and some other MMOs like Warhammer.

Edit: Please don't just repost your list of reasons you dislike / hate / don't play Eve. Please post what you do play as well.

Eve sucks because I can't get out of my ship, walk around and play patty cake with someone!!!!!!!

When I play Eve I actually have to think and how Dare CCP create an MMO without battlegrounds!!!!!!

LOL im just messing with ya bro. since you're going to get decent flamage in this thread I fugured I would chime in and lighten the mood before everyone got all serious and people get hit with a ban stick.

To contribute to the thread If I did hate eve I would probably just play Ryzom full time.

It's like the only Pve focused Sandbox game I enjoy, sure its grindy but the RP is great and community is all friendly and stuffs.

GL in the thread bro im sure ill have my Eve defenders bat out in this thread also.

Oh yeah I expect some good flamage. I just want to see if those haters have the balls to own up to what they play and can they take the criticisms that go along with it

  • eolseeolse Member UncommonPosts: 80

I think eve is neat i dont hate it , i hate the fact i cant do anything till i learn a bunch of skill!   as in pvp not missions those are to easy =/   but what other game i would play ?  nothing realy just bunch of disapointments out there.  i do have my eve acount going working on skills but its like i got to pay extra 30 bucks before i can play the game .

I love how you started this thread just to start a flame war. Go to any other message board and you'll find out everyone hates every game. There are WOW haters, Darkfall haters, COH/COV haters, haters for games that aren't out yet, and haters for games that have long since been gone. Every game has to put up with people who hate the game, it comes with the territory. If you really feel like you're being victimized because of the game you like you need to pry yourself off that cross and stop being a drama queen.

Play what you like, fuck forums.

    @eolse

Instead of just sitting there waiting why not join a pvp corp that takes low sp players and helps them learn ? Get your feet wet early or else one day you will have missed out on all the fun that you missed.

PvP losses early are actually cheaper than later on. Insurable tech 1 ships and low grade clones are cheap. Later on those tech 2 ships and clones that cover 40million sps get costly and then you have imps to put in on top of that.

Do it now while its cheap, get the experience that really matters in game so that when you have the combat experince to back up your SPs later on.

I absolutely agree with you, the same goes for people that use Xfire as a judge for how well a game is doing. Unfortunately that never seems to stop people from making posts like, "lulz only 10,000 hours played ovur teh weekend 4 WAR." It's aggravating. But I guess when people are actually involved in the forum community it seems like everyone's ganging up on you. I just think it's fair to say that everyone is ganging up on everyone.

It wasn't started to start a flamewar at all, I truly am interested in what the hardcore Eve haters play.

"Play what you like, fuck forums"

I agree with this statement. I just with those trolling haters would think about that too. It's one thing to bait people into arguement but it's a completely separate issue when those same people are spreading lies about the game to prevent new players from trying the game with clear vision for themselves.

From time to time i like bakeing bread and comparing clothes with Lordmonkus here and have and always will try alot of different online games. I suppose my dream game would be Starflight III with avatars that can enter a space ship as well as walk around a station or land a shuttle on the surface of a planet and do mining or exploring. Be able to fight in the ships or on the land via 3rd or 1st person. Have the ability to pvp or not pvp have large capital ships manned by crews of the same guild with state rooms and operating stations aboard them. Killer graphics and sound, excellent quests npc's that talk to you. Free roam of any area. options to use mouse and keyboard or joy-stick combination of. Not an Eve hater but would like a choice of pvping or not.

Fair enough. Do you play any games other than Eve on a regular basis ?

On a side note Elsa it's not that I don't think your ideas for changes to Eve are necessarily bad for a game if that were a new game designed around those ideas. It's just that some of your ideas would never work in simply because Eve was never designed around those kinds of ideas and game play philosophies and the changes you would like would break Eve. Put those same ideas into a game like Black Prophecy and design the game around those ideas and it would work just fine.

Haha, ok fair's fair, I'll answer OP's question. I think EVE is a very complex and intracate game that rewards persistence in the face of alienation (and by that I mean it is a game that starts off very difficult to play, but you can make huge gains by sticking with it) in a way that most MMO's don't. I like that, and I think that if only the MMO development community took more stock in what EVE was doing we would have more thought provoking games that really pushed players in a way that wasn't End-Game-Gear-centric.

WAR was also another game that I liked due to it's PVP idea's, and the fact that teamwork was fairly crucial in achieving anything. Though in saying this I must confess I haven't played WAR since two months after it's launch due to buggieness- but I think I will start it again soon.

COH/COV fantastic premise! Though the graphics dated the game far too fast. Perhaps Champions?

I played WOW to endgame on three separate occasions 60-70-80, And though I won't say it was the best MMO, damn, Bliz really knows how to make a solid, addicting game.

I can see the Pro's to Darkfall, but I'm afraid it wasn't executed properly. But I say that NOT HAVING PLAYED THE GAME - so take that statement with a grain of salt.

I look forward to all the space MMO's slated for this year -fantasy has gotten a little played out for me.

Oh, and I really want to play Hello Kitty Online, though only if I can use the Khorne symbol as some part of my avatar.

I do not hate any games but i like to think im not blinded to the point of not recognising a games flaws.

EvE is a great game i wish i could enjoy it but i find it so dull and slow and generally boring and the fact you have to wait so long to skill up.

For me SWG was the holy grail, I saw very little flaws in it until the NGE and many people complained it had no content. I actualy disagree cause there was 32 proffessions to try and many different worlds and areas to explore and quests to do. Also it had a great social aspect.

CoH is a game i do not hate but its flaw is repetativeness, you do the same thing in each mission basicaly they just look a bit different.

Final Fantasy 11 - This is a game i enjoyed greatly but it punished death too severely and made it important to have a full balanced group. In some ways i miss the group aspect as it was fun and challenging for all in the group. However waiting 2 hours in valkrum dunes for a party is a big turn off.

WoW - Wonderful game but its just too easy. If theres no challenge and no story to follow whats the point, alot of the new mmos have this problem.

AoC - great game, not finished. When you leave a game that relies on content without content past level 30 you are basicaly causing future problems. Gamers voted with their subscriptions and many left, the slow painful rebuild awaits this game but the damage may already be done.  Vanguard failed to regain a foothold in the mmo genre after its failure.

Warhammer online - Decent and refreshing an unfortunate victim of Wrath of the lich king. The game had some decent features like scenarios and public quests but again was fairly easy like WoW.

LOTRO - quite a successful mmo however i felt that the game was again too easy and lacked challenge, It does however have a good social aspect with musical instruments and events.

EQ2 - A good solid mmo that suffered from a poor launch but has redeemed itself somewhat but the scars are still there. EQ2 has depth and variation along with detailed environments. Traveling around is very easy and makes the world feel alot smaller than it actualy is. The game is not too easy but its still not very challenging especialy if you start in timorous deep where you get great rewards from quests.

Overall mmos have become too easy and stale for me im hoping jumpgate evolution or SWTOR gives a new spark although i do no think SWTOR will offer the challenge i crave i feel it will have good solid story. Jumpgate evolution on the other hand i would expect to be highly challenging.

Yes I agree, other mmo makers out there don't need to copy the hardcore elements of Eve but there are definitely things in Eve that devs like Blizzard could learn from.

WAR was also another game that I liked due to it's PVP idea's, and the fact that teamwork was fairly crucial in achieving anything. Though in saying this I must confess I haven't played WAR since two months after it's launch due to buggieness- but I think I will start it again soon.

I have been playing War a little lately with a couple of friends. While I do have some fun there just seems to be something missing. The only real complaint I have about Warhammer right now is the collision detection bugginess when running around the world and getting caught on rocks and trees and having to do a /stuck and relog.

COH/COV fantastic premise! Though the graphics dated the game far too fast. Perhaps Champions?

Good games, I was just never a comic book super hero type person.

I played WOW to endgame on three separate occasions 60-70-80, And though I won't say it was the best MMO, damn, Bliz really knows how to make a solid, addicting game.

I agree here. I played WoW end game at 60 and 70 but that was it for me. The pve dungeon raid farming and the loot whines from people just killed the game for me. Blizz does know how to make a polished addictive game though.

I can see the Pro's to Darkfall, but I'm afraid it wasn't executed properly. But I say that NOT HAVING PLAYED THE GAME - so take that statement with a grain of salt.

Darkfall is a game im letting develop more before trying it out. Great concept but needs to prove itself first.

I look forward to all the space MMO's slated for this year -fantasy has gotten a little played out for me.

Yes, the fantasy genre has been done to death and back. Almost as beaten as WW2 shooters.

Oh, and I really want to play Hello Kitty Online, though only if I can use the Khorne symbol as some part of my avatar.

Hello Kitty with hardcore pvp loot rules ?

Trust me, I a long with many other old players know that Eve is not perfect and probably never will be, it's just too complex to be perfect.
EvE is a great game i wish i could enjoy it but i find it so dull and slow and generally boring and the fact you have to wait so long to skill up.
Some skills you have to wait for but you do not need to wait for skills to have fun. I will admit that certain aspects of the game are painfully boring, mining is a big one for me but there are those that truly love it.
For me SWG was the holy grail, I saw very little flaws in it until the NGE and many people complained it had no content. I actualy disagree cause there was 32 proffessions to try and many different worlds and areas to explore and quests to do. Also it had a great social aspect.
I never did get to play SWG at the time. My pc was too slow back then.
All I remember of this game was checking out at a buddies and falling asleep cause of how slow the combat was.
WoW - Wonderful game but its just too easy. If theres no challenge and no story to follow whats the point, alot of the new mmos have this problem.
    Agreed.
Hmm, I wouldn't go so far as to say AoC is a great game. I had hopes for AoC and cancelled pretty quick. The game has some serious fundamental design flaws like the combat system and all the zone instancing for me to enjoy it. I hope Funcom can get AoC straightened out, I so wanted a Conan mmo too.
Warhammer online - Decent and refreshing an unfortunate victim of Wrath of the lich king. The game had some decent features like scenarios and public quests but again was fairly easy like WoW.
    Agreed.
LOTRO - quite a successful mmo however i felt that the game was again too easy and lacked challenge, It does however have a good social aspect with musical instruments and events.
Good game but too much like WoW and at the time I was in a high end raiding guild in WoW dso why switch to LOTRO ?
EQ2 - A good solid mmo that suffered from a poor launch but has redeemed itself somewhat but the scars are still there. EQ2 has depth and variation along with detailed environments. Traveling around is very easy and makes the world feel alot smaller than it actualy is. The game is not too easy but its still not very challenging especialy if you start in timorous deep where you get great rewards from quests.
    Never played EQ at all.
Overall mmos have become too easy and stale for me im hoping jumpgate evolution or SWTOR gives a new spark although i do no think SWTOR will offer the challenge i crave i feel it will have good solid story. Jumpgate evolution on the other hand i would expect to be highly challenging.
The only thing I think will be challenging will be the twitch based combat. This is only a challenge depending on how quick the person on the other end is. Eves combat however is more a thinking combat. Neither is more or less challenging than the other, they just challenge different parts of you brain and body. One the reflexes and hand eye co ordination while the other challenges clear and  strategic thinking.
I have hopes for SWTOR but I won't be shocked if it ends up being crap. I do have some faith in Bioware though.

Hey without our haters then these fourms would get a bit boring.

Besides EVE i like a few mmos: Lineage 2, RFO and EverQuest 2 to name some but i also like SP stratagy games too.

WarHammer i'm looking at  and may play it to see what is all the fuse about it.

WOW had a great PvE system but felt to easy, not enough challange for me and the PvP sucked.

Waiting on two mmo's: Aion and Global Agenda.

For the most part i find people that dislike EVE can not get past hte missions cause they find them either boring or to easy at first or they can not get into the type of PvP they are looking for right away. Some want the game to hold their hand and not be as harsh as it is when you lose a fight or get PK'd.

Final Fantasy 11 - This is a game i enjoyed greatly but it punished death too severely and made it important to have a full balanced group. In some ways i miss the group aspect as it was fun and challenging for all in the group. However waiting 2 hours in valkrum dunes for a party is a big turn off.

Overall mmos have become too easy and stale for me im hoping jumpgate evolution or SWTOR gives a new spark although i do no think SWTOR will offer the challenge i crave i feel it will have good solid story. Jumpgate evolution on the other hand i would expect to be highly challenging.

Sorry I edited down your post for brevity sake and because I found these points most interesting. I would like to start with saying that some MMO's feel a bit too easy but I was wondering what do you consider challenging? It seems that FFXI was too hard for you due to the severe death penalty, and EVE because you have to wait so long to play (on that point I agree.) But if these games are too hard then what's the optimum dificulty for you.

Now if you're going to say that having a high penalty for death isn't a substitute for content dificulty. I would say that I agree with you. Even so, maybe it's not the amount of dificulty, but the kind of dificulty that is lacking in current MMO's. So what kind of dificulty are you looking for?

I'm looking forward to jumpgate too, I think flying around pewpewing will be a lot of fun!

I don't "hate" Eve, most people don't, just find really boring.

You can say it's the learning curve... but that isn't it, it's the gameplay and the lack of direction.

The fact the game really doesn't help "get into" the game enough, at the begining doesn't help.

The tutorial is ok, but not engaging... after about 30 minutes I was bored, after an hour I closed the game, and finished it the next day.

That isn't a good thing... working to get somewhere in a game is fine, but good lord if you not having fun in the game within 1st hour something is wrong.

Guess in the end it's because it not A PvE game with PvP... but the other way around...

The PvE there to make money... not much else but it's mind numbingly boring.

As for Real-time skilling... I both like and dislike this.

If there was a way speed up training when playing and still having progressive offline would have been better.

But that is just me... I really don't mind the way that this is.

There is a game kinda reminds me of Eve, that I did like: Nexus: The Jupiter Incident

But in that you controlled a fleet of ship, not just one.

The gameplay is very much like Eve, and also which is probably why I found Eve learning curve not so hard...

    I tried alot of MMOs;

EQ1: played that for 6 days... the having to type to NPC, irk me, plus got me killed alot.

I spent 4 days collect stuff to craft something, only to have it fail... and lose most of the stuff I gathered....

I hit unistalled right after that.

FFXI: Played for 3 months. It was like lack of things to do beside just group grind to level.

It's an RPG right? where are the quest?

Also back then (2003) at 10am EST when I played, finding a group wasn't easy.

This jaded to too non-solo friendly games. I left the game with bitter hate for it.

WoW: My "3rd" mmo. well, I played it for most of it retail life, from day one of retail. Really what more can say about this, eh?

EQ2: Wasn't bad, just to enthralled WoW still to play it more.

Guild Wars (series): Fun games. I like them, just haven't played them much.

    Eve: See above

TR: They should left "Lord British" in space for this... awful game.

PotBS: ship combat was great... everything else sucked.

    AoC: Fun until level 20...

    WAR: Fun until tier 3.

Aion: playing the Chinese retail atm and really enjoy it.

    What games do I like:

Some FPS/3PS like: Some of Battlefield Series, COD4 (still my favorite), Killzone 2, L4D, Gears1/2... Hate Counter Strike and TF2

Most JRPGs (mostly earlier Square game)

    KOTOR1

Fallout 3, but didn't like Morrowind or Oblivion

    Starcraft, Diablo1/2 (damn you blizz)
