You are asking me to defend my opinion on his unproven generalisations and statements?
Im asking you to prove hes over generalizing and to prove YOUR opinion...
.......... yes I do think the free market is at work, where do you not see this?
I just mentionned it, big companies are killing free market.
" i dont see much place left for a small company (the one susceptible to make a new concept, the big names already found a "winning" concept)"
Your not looking. And yes the big names have found a winning concept (ish) and will milk it for every penny, this however does nothing other than drive those who want a share (or have a dream) to bigger and better things (theres that free market creativity thing again).
My point here is that the small cie or smaller project would do better if it wasnt for WoW and EQ2, they would have more customers, more money, more sucess, more visibility and there would be more of them (and dont count on the big names for innovation). May i remind you of Warhammer, Mythica, Dragon Empire and True Fantasy Live....

The Over Generalisations
IntroductionVirtual worlds are being designed by know-nothing newbies, and there's not a damned thing anyone can do about it. I don't mean newbie designers, I mean newbie players - first timers. They're dictating design through a twisted "survival of the not-quite-fittest" form of natural selection that will lead to a long-term decay in quality, guaranteed.
In virtual worlds, the hardcore either wanders from one to the next, trying to recapture the experience of their first experience or they never left in the first place. Furthermore, in today's flat-fee universe, the hardcore spends the same amount of money as everyone else: developers aren't rewarded for appealing to the cognoscenti, except maybe through word of mouth that always comes with caveats (because of point #3)
These and most other points in the post are gross overgeneralisations backed up by nothing other than his point of view and lack or perspective.
Can I ask you what game your paying for atm and what are you awaiting ?
The game I am currently playing most is EVE-Online - EVE was created and developed by CCP in Reykjavik, Iceland. EVE is CCPs first MMOG, though the company plans to develop additional titles in the future, focusing exclusively on MMOGs.
I believe they were sitting around one day discussing the game they would want to play one day and said why dont we make a game?
I am looking forward to SEED:THC more than any other atm, although Centia-Online looks interesting also.

So you think anything that attracts a large user base is bad for the industry going by your logic? Odd as I have found that most mmorpg gamers I meet discover mmorpgs through one of the larger mmorpgs and move on down the line to another that may not have as large a user base but is more suited to what they want from a game.
Warhammer still has life in it and those that did not make final or beta died for many reasons this does not prove there is no more room at the inn so to say, you only have to look at the number of titles still in development and the rumors of more on the way.
Overall I think the movies execs should be worried.
Nice to see you are playing Eve, one of the few innovative games...

Look at official boards, how many times do you see request to have X feature from Z game added ? ive seen it lots of time. I really dont think hes over generalizing, hes just observing the current situation. Everyone dont fall in those "stereotype", you probably dont, i dont but look around and you'll see most do.

All of the original EQ player i know are playing WoW, sad but true.
I agree that only the future will tell, looks like im more "half empty" and your more "half full". But i do think all those games cancelled in 2004 were a result of all the hype around EQ2 and WoW. Now that they are out, I just hope the next games will be better, but i dont see much potential in Wish, DnL, Mourning, etc... But ill look at SEED:THC and Centia-Online cause i dont know much about them.
