I posted this thread already in Vanguard while I am now looking for another MMO that gives me more option and challenge on Community + Crafting + Roleplaying (Housing, Economic, Guilds).  Over all the choices, Vanguard and EQ2 are the closest choices, and I'm in the trial now in Vanguard.  I want to hear more of the EQ2 stories, hopefully some friendly people can give me their perspective of this game!!  So I can choose....

I'm currently playing LOTRO mainly, having a blast with this game and I'm looking forward to even going for lifetime subscription. Also I'm playing War online/AoC but I'm going to cancel AoC since there are nothing to hook me up (not saying the game is bad, but just no friend to play with.) I'm looking for another game that is so similar SWG and from what I read Vanguard or EQ2 are the closest choice. So I want to ask for perspective about this game, as there are upcoming many games ahead I want to see if I should involve into this game or not.

Here are the list that I'm demanding, if this game can offer me this experience:

1.) Economy is totally player driver, as like in SWG I can even care about setting myself an own shop to keep my business running. Yes I was playing as an architect in SWG for 2 years and I still love it !!! so does player needs to come to your place to buy your unique items?

2.) Housing is dynamic.  So I just want to confirm more about hows the housing in this game.  What benefits for people to own a house (or bigger house).

3.) I'm basically playing MMO for looking nice and being unique in gears/weapons. Is the game offers LOTS of armor/weapon types? Are there LOTS of KICK ass looking armor/weapon? Will I be able to craft something that player wants to buy for looks? (just like in SWG as in Tailoring before NGE.)

4.) Community active? Easy going?

5.) Soloing friendly? like will I be able to max level only by soloing? lots of grinding mobs? Well I can play with grps but I just hope just in case if I gotta play by myself sometimes due to wrong timing at least I can still enjoy the game.

yea sorry there are still TONS of questions wanna ask but I think that should be okay if everything above can meet my expectation, you will see me in game :p

thank you if anyone will answer my question. I will love to dedicate myself into a deep MMO game (yea sorry to say WoW is like an online adventure game to me, I need DEEP MMO genre involves Housing, Crafting, Economy player-driven, and Community like SWG offers me.)

    problems with 1, 2 and 4

    1.  I have yet to come across a SWG style economy in any game on the market.

    2. While EQ2 has a decent housing system it is no where near as good as Vanguard or SWG is.  Houses are static and inside main towns and you enter via a portal door.

    4. EQ2 always had problems with numbers/the comminity.  Most notable problems are the 'vets' who hate noobs with a passion (so its hard to get a question answered after the nooby zones) and the sparse distribution of players.

aside from that EQ2 is a terrific game and might suit you.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

umm that doesn't sound too pleasing  =(

I am comparing to the EQ2 and Vanguard graphics now and the armor sets.... (good looking armor pays 50% of me want to play the game) and so far EQ2 does have better graphics afterall ...... so is still tempting...

    Are there anymore perspectives ??

  • OssotOssot Member Posts: 10

I played EQ2 for years, and am now playing VG. EQ2 is horrible. VG is everything EQ2 SHOULD'VE been. As for the graphics being better in EQ2. I don't know how you can say that. You may like the design of armor better, but the graphics in VG kill, absolutely kill EQ2.

EQ2 is just a never ending cycle of nerfs and copy/pasted raid content. Big dragon. It aoes. Avoid it. If you can get down that strategy you can beat nearly all of EQ2's raid content. People always yap about expansions. But all every expansion since KoS has been "new AAs! new OP armor!" along with a big zone with new dragons that aoe -- avoid it.

that probably depends on what server you play on

on my server, Blackburrow,  people's questions often get answered without any attitude

I have all chat channels on from 1-79

    This.

If someone asks a genuine question, I will whisper them and answer it.

If someone is all caps spamming or being a douchebag in general, they typically are ignored though.

Also, @ the vanguard r better than eq2 hurr hurr.

Don't sound SO butt hurt in your post and you'll probably sound more convincing.

hosntly man VG & eq2 are horrible imo  Vg is a wow clone with few diffrent things ,  eq2 is turning into a wow clone (kurnark expansion) i mean clone by  you go kill 10 rats and turn in for Xp from level 1 to max level only thing diffrent is the Skin of the monster.  This game eq2 is at lest still on SoE eye meaning they still make expansions and constent new stuff  .  If i were force to pick between the 2 i would pick eq2 hands down.  This game there not so many bugs and is very player while Vg is the most buged mmo ive ever played.

I want to like vanguard , but it's more like swg the housing is everywhere and all empty noone around and just ghost towns. add to that the game has most of the players leave you have nothing to do. eq2 has some great housing, yes you zone but is fun and love the guild halls. about vets hating noobs, that is bull we hate 1-9 chat that you get the noob trial player that wants to make an ass of them self. but on AB we take time to help players.

I bought the game two weeks ago, so I can't say for certain as I clearly know very little in the grand scheme of the game, but yes players can visit your home and buy your items for a discount from what thye'd pay at the broker (no fee).
2.) Housing is dynamic.  So I just want to confirm more about hows the housing in this game.  What benefits for people to own a house (or bigger house).
Not sure of you mean by saying 'dynamic', but I spent almost 2 hours one night visiting different homes (yes zoning in and out of people's homes who allowed visitors) and all I can say is WOW.  Some of the houses in this game are absolutely stunning.  Comparing it to other games is silly imo - people need to play a game for what it is, and EQ2's housing so far has impressed me quite a bit.  There are items which reduce rent costs, broker fees, give various buffs, allow travel to certain areas, and the list goes on (I'm sure there's much I know nothing of yet).  Suffice to say - the houses can be decorated quite extremely.  Also, larger houses allow for more storage (including allowing more space to decorate with), and selling space on the broker.
EQ2 may not have the most amazing looking armors ever offered (read: over the top), but I'm extremely pleased with the ability to wear appearance armor.  You can wear one set of gear for its stats, and wear an entirely different set for its looks (omg I don't have to look like a hobo when I don't have a set!).  From what I've seen thus far, there is plenty available for good looking gear as I level, and look forward to spending time making outfits etc. just for their looks so I don't always look the same.
    4.) Community active? Easy going?
I've tried 3 servers (the most populated ones), for quite a few hours each.  Never once did I see someone getting made fun of for asking questions, and rarely did I see someone getting utterly ignored.  Only once thus far on my chosen server has the global channel (1-9) broken down to the point where I just left it, but then I'm not usually staring at chat too often anyway - the game offers plenty to do outside being a 3D chatroom :)
5.) Soloing friendly? like will I be able to max level only by soloing? lots of grinding mobs? Well I can play with grps but I just hope just in case if I gotta play by myself sometimes due to wrong timing at least I can still enjoy the game.
From all I've read, seen, tried, and been told, every class can solo, but clearly some solo better than others.  I've yet to have any issue with finding groups, however, and have made quite a few friends so far after grouping with them.  I've not joined a guild yet, but while I wish I had another resource for help or info, it's a personal preference for me.  I'm not the type to join a guild, get loads of help, then bail for the next step up later on - I'm very choosy in that regard, and I'll bide my time and join a guild I feel I can dedicate effort to.  Meanwhile, there's little I've not accomplished that I've wanted to since I started, even killing quite a few raid mobs, and running dungeons a plenty.
yea sorry there are still TONS of questions wanna ask but I think that should be okay if everything above can meet my expectation, you will see me in game :p

Personally, I spent almost 3 months looking for and deciding upon a game.  Every trial I went into made me hate the idea of picking one game to play even more - the instant appeal just wasn't there on almost everything I tried.  That said, when I finally settled down and gave EQ2 a real chance... just holy crap.  The game is overwhelming immediately, then welcoming as you figure more out.  People are friendly, helpful, and the idiots you see in chat channels are the ones who are alienated, rather than the other way around (so it seems in other MMOs these days).  More to the point, though, I finally bought the game with the clear intention of playing with an open mind and a clean slate of expectation.  I left my pre-conceived notions at the door, and I haven't looked back since.

Also, in terms of depth - I killed combat experience at level 10, and haven't bothered with getting exp from killing mobs since.  I intend to enjoy the ride, rather than race to the "end-game" as so many these days do.  In two weeks, I'm a level 30 coercer, 32 scribe with nearly 40 AAs, a mount, and a decently decorated home.  I even made an alt over the weekend to be a carpenter so I could spend more time decorating with furniture I can craft myself.  Which, btw, crafting is pretty sweet here.  A little dumbed down according to vets compared to the start of the game, but better and far more involved than most I've seen.  I've had little issue making money through the broker (another thing you can get into watching/spending time on) and the server I'm on shows plenty of signs of life through that alone.

End of the day, I'm (personally) extremely pleased with EQ2 so far, and I'm definitely not going anywhere.  If you DO decide to try and choose a new game, my best advice would be to drop any list of "demands" you may have, and just start playing, and enjoying yourself.  Don't be one of these guys who logs in on a level 1 character then asks immediately "What class solos best?!" or "What class is most needed at 'end-game'?!".  Do a bit of reading into the clases and races, and pick what you think you'll like the most, and if that fails, god knows EQ2 has plenty of classes to choose from.  It's defintely extremely fun to me so far, and I'd have never realized it had I not just settled in, and given it a real shot (which is probably all I needed to do for MOST of the games I tried).

I'd say 7/10. Lootables are generally better than craftables but lootables are so rare that people will get full crafted gear / whatever before they upgrade.
2.) Housing is dynamic.  So I just want to confirm more about hows the housing in this game.  What benefits for people to own a house (or bigger house).
Guild halls are massively functional i.e. they have vendors and portals to every area of the game, you can have a door to your guild hall in your house + tonnes of useful stuff. Houses are incredibly detailed, similar to SWG but instanced and without the immersion of being able to look out onto other peoples houses.
No, appearance items are NOTHING like SWG. I built myself a great reputation as a tailor on SWG and EQ2 is just naff. People wear random lootables + item mall gear.
    4.) Community active? Easy going?
Community is OK. There are lots of nice people but open chat channels are dominated by jerks.  EQ2 has its own brand of jerks, fully grown adults that act up for no forgiveable reason. Generally its a great community of a much higher standard than other games.
5.) Soloing friendly? like will I be able to max level only by soloing? lots of grinding mobs? Well I can play with grps but I just hope just in case if I gotta play by myself sometimes due to wrong timing at least I can still enjoy the game.
The grouping is great but the difficulty in finding a party pushes you to soloing. Soloing is much better for everything you can imagine.

EQ2 isn't that deep, initially you're overwhelmed by the depth but once you hit max level and realise that its just a badge of justice grind then it gets a bit bittersweet, definitely the best mmo behind wow tho.

If you decide to give EQ2 a shot, you might want to look into a guild like mine. We are currently working our way through ALL the EQ2 content. We just started, so we are in T1 and T2, easy to catch up and will get you through 90% of the game.

Have you checked out any guild halls yet? I'll tel you some of them are jaw dropping. Most Guilds allow visitors to show off the halls.

This game is my second fav. MMO of all time(DAOC is first, by far) due to :

Immersive factors like graphics and voice acting.

    Decent PVP

    Fun Classes

Unfortunately, I think the game fails on all 5 of your criteria(yes, including soloing. Just because the game is MORE SOLOABLE than it was at launch doesnt mean it is soloable compared to other MMO's like WAR or WOW.)

Extremism in the defense of Liberty is no vice.

I liked EQ2 a lot except there didn't seem to be enough quests, instead i'd have to get these work order things and that was about it. Plus it was way too quiet for my liking. I could never find anyone.. i assume everyone was off into high end content... but other than that I really liked the collecting different objects to turn in  and crafting was really fun in that game.  The graphics were good and the spell effects were really cool. Although I would lag like crazy when i entered a city with a bunch of other people sitting around.

Anyway I'm playing LotRO right now and enjoying that as well. ^^ I suppose if I had a group to play through the game with I'd give it another shot perhps.
