Hi,
I've been enjoying TCoS for about a week now but one thing still keeps me from paying for it: yup, random freezes. :-( I'm having the exact same problems as the thread starter and the other posters of this thread HERE.
Apparently (as you can see in that thread) lots of people have these freezes and have had them for quite some time (all through beta). It happens once or twice every two hours and it freezes my computer completely, unless I play the game in a window - I can then close it and restart the game. Still bothersome since it takes a couple of minutes to get everything up and running again and when I return I'm usually dead (PeP rank has gone down).
Has there been an official response yet about when it might be getting fixed? Has anyone heard anything? I've looked but haven't found anything.

I've had the exact same issues you describe. I'd really like to see this fixed before spending money on this game.

I freeze up on occasion as well. Not really a game breaker for me since it doesnt happen that often and it doesnt require a cpu restart. I have lost pep due to it, and it can be very annoying when it happens mid fight.
im not 100% on this but i have heard that a lot of these types of problems are related to updating video and sound drivers. might want to update everything and then drop a post on the tcos forum for further help.
*edit*
took my own advice and learned i had a 100mb driver update waiting for me since april2nd. ill let you know if this solves the freeze ups ive been having.
Yeah unfortunately there are currently a large number of minor technical faults still in the game. Sometimes the game freezes when it is loading (always as the Unreal logo fades away) and I have experienced some odd issues where visually monsters will stop attacking and I am no longer able to click on any of my abilities........yet in reality the monsters are still damaging me and 5 seconds later I suddenly die to a massive overload of damage. Fortunately this very rarely happens. I also sometimes get dumped to the desktop with an error message when I travel between Aldenvault and Hoggsridge. These technical problems have not stopped me from playing the game though and only present an occasional minor annoyance. The large number of broken quests in the game are perhaps more obstructive to my enjoyment.
The best thing to do is send an email to tcossupport@acclaim.cm listing the problems you are having. I am currently building up a list of technical issues and broken quests that I have come across. I realise its not particularly great to play the role of a beta tester for a game that has gone live but its the only way the devs will know that these things are happening and as I believe the next patch is due to be applied pretty soon we might actually see a lot of these problems disappear. I also dont personally mind helping out with this game because despite its techy problems its still a LOT better than most other mmos that have been out for ages.
On the European servers nobody seems to have that issue.

Thanks for the the advice and replies, everyone. I downloaded the latest drivers (the ones I had were pretty recent) but no change there. Game froze twice in about fifteen minutes of play time. Not really worse than usual though. It has happened before.
I wish it was so. I play there. :-/
Be sure to report this to tech support (along with systems specs and OS). I have had the game freeze up on me once and have Dced many times going through portals. But you know what? I will still play because it is a great game.....
Your link is to a very old thread. Maybe you should complain a bit more on their forums.

Yep, totally agree.
Except I'm not going to pay for it because it isn't worth spit.
Horrid game.

Honestly, how can you say its horrible? Comparing it to the games that have been released in recent years, it blows them out of the water in terms of stability, graphics, smoothness, lore, combat, and game play. Warhammer is bad, age of conan was a mess, lord of the rings is actually decent, wow is wow, etc. The game is very polished at this point, I guess you haven't played many mmos.

He probably thinks it is horrible for the same reasons you dislike the games you listed; personal preference.
Everyone states this is a niche game that plays it and supports it, yet when the general public doesn't like it, because it is a niche game, those players who don't like it get drilled with 21 questions and then some or insults thrown at them, demanding they explain in full detail with a 2,000 word minimum essay on why they don't enjoy the game.
The answer is evident, you all state it, it's a niche game. It's not going to appeal to everyone, if it did, they wouldn't call it a niche game.
According to the Spellborn community, every person who doesn't enjoy the game automatically has zero MMO experience (or limited), no taste in the genre, and so on, and so forth. I personally have been in the genre since '99 and don't play. I enjoyed it for a short period of time, and moved on. Dangit, I must not have enough experience in MMOs to enjoy this game.
WTB MMO XPS!

Sure, don't play the game for whatever reason, thats your choice and based on taste. I have always said this.
But, and I guess I am the 'community' as much as anyone here, I have never took the position that you state ("According to the Spellborn community, every person who doesn't enjoy the game automatically has zero MMO experience (or limited), no taste in the genre, and so on, and so forth") so that fact we are all represented under the 'community' banner for allegedly saying the same thing is confusing.
I have always tried to answer individuals, even some of the more obvious trolls, on the points they have raised, and thats all.
I have never dismissed anyone for not like the game due to the reasons you suggest here, and I know others that havent as well. Maybe one or two have, but they don't represent the supporters of SB any more then any other single poster does.
Can we please avoid flaming each other with broad emotive generalisations and just talk about the game? Attacking a whole community to promote your personal view could be considered as trolling.
Removed my reply and sent to you via PM, Ves. Thread doesn't need derailed further.
@ OP -- I had the same issue, uninstalled, updated drivers, turned sound acceleration off, and it fixed it.

I've paid for it now and haven't had any problems since. It obviously has nothing to do with it, but maybe it's a karma thing.
Thanks for the tips! Will do the same.
