Unfortunately, I couldn't post this question on WoW's forum because I dont' have a CD-Key yet.  I'll have to drive two hours tonight just to pick up this game.  At least, with all the money I dumped into my system to run EQ2, WoW ought to run great!

Funny, I couldn't post on their forums neither because their servers are down, again!

Which leads me to this. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME... YET.

Wait until they fix it. It has a huge lag problem that will frustrate you. Wait until it's fixed. Read the boards and then buy it. Don't waste your month on crap at this point.

Buy the game. Its the best mmo ive played in the last 5 years and worth the small headache that have come along with the release.

Ill admit the release has been a big disapointment, my server has been down for the last 4 hours. But i wouldnt be worried the game itself runs fine and i played all of yesterday and today with zero problems. Its simply that they were not prepared for the huge amount of people logging in to play the last 2 days.

Only the 2nd day of Wow and they just increased the number of servers by about 1/3rd! The game is fine, the only problem is lack server power here and im sure this wont be a problem for long.

I would buy it if I were you.. in about a week.

Most games are sexier a week after release. EQII has had some 6 patches and almost all of the release bugs like memory leaks and clipping have been virtually erased. The same will probably be for WoW.

Umm not to get this off topic or anything but... some of us read everything and post selectivly and feel no need to voice our opinions on every single braindead post out there. So in light of this wisdom the above quote is false.

However... "When" you joined a forum.. THAT makes a difference.

And like everyone reasonable said above, MMORPG's get better the longer they are out. Never expect a new MMORPG to be perfect. So far the smoothest release was CoH but it has far less under the hood than most MMORPG's.

Read it again. It is meant for EQII board flamers like Shobu and Neas ::::39:: And it is a sig, not in the comment.

I understand it is only the first few days of release so you cant say exactly how good this game really is. Endgame material and such is a huge factor in how good a game is. From what i have heard, you can fly through lvls 1-60 in a matter of days if you really put some time and effort into it. Tell me, how is the game from your point of view? and can you level as quickly as they say?

Game was running great until about 4pm today..  started to lag pretty bad after that.

Probably just a matter of population control however. They are bringing more servers on tonight and doing something to the others that involves bringing them down for maintenance. Hopefully this fixes the lag.

Other than the lag, the game is very good. Unfortunately when it's lagging it's unplayable.

    Yeah, I'd do Betty....
But I'd be thinking about Wilma.

Since 4 PM is a peak hour, it was probably a population issue. Really, there is nothing to do about pop lag. It will probably end completely except in dungeons once the players spread out.

Well, just got back from a four hour round trip out of the woods to grab this thing.  My eyes poped out when I saw teh graphics on the cover... say, I hope this game likes 56k, cause that's all they bury around here. LOL

    Played EQ for 6 months

    DAOC for a year

    Savage Eden for 4 months

    Eve for 5 months

Best online game I have ever played so far. More addicting then any of those others...I warn you stay away or you become addicted! lol

I played the Beta and i Loved it. Now i'm waiting for my CD-key

but in Beta there was the Database lag from time to time. Is the problem

still there. When you are looting the mob it takes time to get into your

    bagpack?

Just thought I'd sum up my experience here in one word.... WOW!  This is the way things should be done.  It's great to see a lot of the options from original muds, like mail and sending packages.  Everyting that urked me in other MMORPG's is fixed in this one.  BTW, the graphics are great - no stuttering. LOL  And consistant FPS ... <sigh> bliss!

All I can say is this.

    http://www.blizzard.com/press/042427.shtml

That is reason for lag and that is one of the reasons, why it is good.

WoW is great, when I can play it. I have experienced little lag, but have had connectivity issues on some servers.

  • dtritusdtritus Member Posts: 139
Was on for 3 hours this morning, no lag at all. Have to wait and see how things are later this evening again.

He's not WOW, he's EQ2 - check out his graphic.

EQ2 will do that to a person.  That whole launch was a dose of fustraited anxiety.  It reminds me of that TSR game "magic realm", where you were left reading the manual for three months before being able to play the game.

WoW's launch has been a little crazy.  But that has to do with code, not game mechanics.  Code can be fixed - bad game mechanics can't. ROFL

If you pick a server they recommend on the launch screen, you shouldn't encounter much lag or instability. The bigger servers with huge populations have long queue lengths, lag issues, and server crashes. The newer, less populated servers seem to not have as many of these issues.
