Ok ive played every mmo out there and I'm finding myself with nothing to play. I gave the trial a shot today and I kinda enjoyed it. I got to lvl 10 and found out that I need to sub in order to progress in the game. I've always been a huge pvp fan so I didnt think I was going to enjoy pure pve but it was kinda relaxing. If all there is to do is pve in this game, are there alot of rare items to get? I can solo from lvl 10 on to max lvl as a ranger?

My main character was a ranger, You definately can solo all the way up to 50 if you want to,. There are tons of items to get. Lots of quests. Great dungeons. (You will need a group) and solid end raiding.
I think its worth subbing and giving it a try. Its the best MMO out there IMO.
make a few more toons play them to 10 wait a few days . everyone likes brand new stuff , but do you see your self playing this in a week - theres your awnser
personally its not worth subing but thats my opinion if i would sub for a PvE game of SOE's i would go with EQ2 theres a trial for it that you can get to 20 max lvl is 80 theres tons of quests tons of items and lots of dungeons/end game raiding imo its way better then vangaurd and has a bigger community and if u roll on a pvp server theres open world pvp so you can alawys have fun with that also
Its a great game. One of the few MMO's I stook around till max on. ITs beautfiul to look at and the classes are great. Best classes since eq1 as far as Im concerned. I enjoyed the questing and just grinding away mobs on my bard.
I did leave VG when WAR was released. I quit because I really like pvp and I found that VG was imbalanced in pvp. I couldnt get past being 2 shotted with a bow and level 1 arrow. Or a sorcereer burst dpsing me on my necro. I was dead long before my dots did any damage. I do not like the fact that some classes are always gonna lose to some classes. Especially on a FFA server.
That was many months ago now, and I am sure things have changed. All in all I played the game to max and loved every second of it. I still consider resubbing now, but Im stuck on AoC.
Rangers are one of the many classes that can solo extremely well. And if you're looking for rare items, you should be able to tackle some bosses easily, if you know how to use your skills wisely. And Its even better when you're outdoors, you're pretty much unstoppable. I kite 10-16 mobs easily.

Having played both games extensively. I dont think EQ2 is nearly as good as Vanguard. Alot of it depends on what you like though. EQ2 does have a bigger community but Vanguard has the best community of any MMO ive seen.
Im not sure if you ever played the original everquest but Vanguard like many people have stated is what Everquest 2 should have been. Honestly though what do you have to lose subbing for a month and seeing? $14.95 isnt a ton of money, you get a month worth of playing and if you dont like it you can move on to something else.
Otherwise your going to be going on to the next game asking the same questions and getting relatively the same answers from their community.
Good luck either way. I hope you give it a sub and see what you think.
It is well worth giving it a try, it pulled me away from EQ2

Vanguard is our last hope Obiwan!
In my opion Vanguard is the best kept secert of any online game out there today.
MAGA
heck you can probably find a box for dirt cheap from some online retailer. If you can find it for $5 for 30 days, that would sure be worth a try.
Just resubbed after 2 years and loving the game. I agree with some other posters. It's imo the best pve game out right now.
I enjoy it much better that EQ2. Never enjoyed the combat mechanics in EQ2. Too over the top with sparkles flying around and useless skills you get every level.
Anyway, the exploration in Vanguard alone is worth the price of admission, and you can get an inexpensive mount at level 10 which makes the game that much more enjoyable.
Definately worth subbing. I'm happy I gave it another chance.
Yeah they can solo but i would not say they solo extremely well, but it depends on what you mean by solo. Can they take on groups of two dots, yes they can but can they take on groups of 3 dots, sure but they might die. If you are looking to take down 4-5 dots then a ranger will die real quick, along with many of the other classes.
If you are talking solo kings then you are talking Disciple and Tuurgin(bear) shammy or for groups of 3 dots a Dread Knight or a Cleric(very slow killer).
Every class can solo but not every class can solo 4-5 dot magic users and live. Even with the last update where they made the mobs harder, my disciple can solo 5 dots of the same level, depending on where you have spent your stat points and armour.
Necro can solo 5-6 dots but that's on open land meaning not in a underground dungeon where the mobs are packed in tight. Disciple and Necro plus monk have the get out of it button with the fake death skill.
I have a 50 bear shammy and a 50 disciple plus a 50 Dread Knight and a 50 bard plus a level 35 ranger and a level 22 druid. Out of all these toons i would say that the disciple is a serious killing machine and it was my first toon from 2 years ago when nobody played them, now they are everywhere.
I two box with my Dread Knight and bear shammy for the best melee buffs in the game. Together these two can take on many 6 dots with ease as long as they are not raid mobs then i have a good chance to kill them. If you ever get the chance to two box then these two classes are serious killing duo and the DK has a 60 sec invis.
Healers are the best soloist in this game along with necro and DK.
Yeah VG is the best PVE game out there and if a few more PVPers head to sartok it would be a great PVP ffa server.

In the last update they did add a PvP arena and some sort of status/progression system where you can get rewards from PvP. I'm not sure how popular it is but if you can find other people that like pvp it might give you some of that PvP competitive satisfaction.

When I was level 28 I was soloing level 32 4 dot bosses with my ranger Outside Wardship of the Sleeping Moon. Hell I even sneaked inside a dungeon charmed a moth boss as my pet took it outside and killed it, no problem. Trust me, a ranger in outdoors is unstoppable. Reach level 24 buy a crafted bow with mudslide effect which slows the movement speed of the mobs, added with your own slow movement speed debuffs they barely move. Just run around kiting. The main objective is to CONSERVE your mana, other than that no worries. Caster bosses are even easier. Their MAX range spell casting is around 25 meters, rangers can shoot as far as 50 meters. If you know how to play range then its no problem.
Get yourself 2 sets of armor, one set for melee the other for kiting. Melee sets can be acquired through questing everywhere, save some money buy mana regen armor set. The ONLY way a ranger dies is from bosses that summon. There's not many out there (mainly swamp armor bosses and raid bosses) Everything else is fair game.
On the other hand my DK can solo basically ALL 6 dot bosses, only thing he cant do is solo the raid bosses. DK's are built on having lots of monsters. More monsters = more heals. So what you do is grab the boss grab a few adds (about 4-6 to be on the safe side) focus your melee on the boss, do ravaging darkness to get your endurance back (6 seconds timed) and just spam away scythe of doom (100% damage done = 100% hp healed ) once you kill off the adds pull some more, rinse and repeat. The only downside is DK's dps isnt that great so it takes forever to kill compared to pure dps classes. Hell I did this soloing Thelaseen at level 40-44. Invis go up to the towers shadow step behind the boss adds will aggro and jsut do what I said and you're looking at some pretty easy grinding.
