Couple of Questions.

Hi there, I'm new to this game and just want to ask a few questions for anyone who will be subscribing past the free trial.

First, the  "2 weeks free trial" , I thought it was meant to give you access to all of the game for 2 weeks? I can't enter some areas, a message pops up stopping me saying I need to subscribe.

Next, when does the "meat" of the game come? So far Spellborn has been a very lonely experience and I've hardly even seen anyone else in game. I'm on Dravhare PvE server, half way through level 7 in the Aldenvault Zone.

Finally, how does PEP work? I noticed I lose it when I die, but what is it for and whats the significance of it? PeP levels are hard to get, it's pretty savage you lose them when you die! Not complaining, I quite like it, it's a subtle shade of "hardcore".

Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Dravhare server is for the Mindscape/Frogster distribution, while the two weeks free trial is for the Acclaim servers. Confusing? Yes, probably.

Cant really give you advice on how the bonus 2 weeks works, as i got them tacked onto my paid month.  I think that the free zone should be the entire shard of parliment, which includes hawksmouth.  SInce you have to revisit this shard to complete a lot of higher level quests it would provide a nice mingling of new players trying the game for free, and higher level vets..

Your on the wrong server, and if your playing the EU client your playing the lower population version.  The pvp on acclaim has lots of players, and i have yet to see the pvp get so out of control that i cant pve anywhere (open world pvp is past the current freezone)

    now to pep...

PeP works on a few levels.  Firstly you get anywhere from 1-300ish pep per kill, theres 9 pep levels and only 5 are avaliable currently.  You die, you loose a pep level, sometimes more it seems.  What makes pep such a big deal?  Well you cant just go kill a mob +15 levels above you and ding on pep in a kill or two, your going to have to grind a few thousand to 10k pep and i rarely see mobs with more than 300 pep per kill.  Also pep effects your 3 buff bars (buff/debuff system in this game is great)   at 0 pep you will recieve +0% run speed, damage out put (for any type attack) and attack speed (for any type of attack)  The max is 50% and the lowest is -50% (you can only go negative upon being debuffed by an enemy or by using some of your own debuff skills and missing (spam debuffs leech type debuffs on your opponent and miss and look forward to debuffing yourself)

So with pep level 5 youll notice a very significant stregnth boost across the board, youll grow some balls with pve, youll pull way too many mobs, youll die, and youll be back to pep level4, and have to grind 10k pep to get back there.

PeP has a huge significance in pvp, as its easyer to get yourself maxbuffed and harder to get max debuffs with high pep.  You will not loose pep upon a pvp loss or gank.

Yeah its kind of hardcore when you get in too deep, and die, then die trying to get to an easyer area, next thing you know your at pep level0 and a bit gimped.  Youll find some fustration grinding to pep5 onced you loose it.  Now you wont be so eager to run though a bunch of higher level mobs to try to explore, youll think before you get in too deep.  I like it better than loosing 3% exp.  PeP isnt needed but it makes everything quicker and easyer, and in pvp makes thinks a tad bit easyer and gives you an edge.

its so nice to have some complexity return to mmo's.

Thanks for the replis guys but this game never really got my attention and the confusing number of clients/servers/subscriptions put me off early on.

I'm not going to slate the game or say it's bad. It's good and I wouldn't have regrets recommending it to people, it's simply not for me. I like to be hooked early on and with Spellborn there was too much a feeling of waiting for something to happen that would throw me into the game. There's clearly been a lot of effort put into the lore but it doesn't take away the style of questing for someone who doesn't want to read every word that every NPC has to say.

The combat was interesting, it was a new design and to be honest I doubt I got to the stage where I can critisize it's mechanics. The one thing I really did enjoy was the difficulty of the NPCs. There was nothing stopping you slugging it toe to toe with standard NPCs but at the same time you could physically step up your game by paying attention to what the enemy was doing and dodging/attacking at key moments. I had one or two long drawn out battles that were fun and engaging.

A lot of people told me I should wait a few more levels but to be honest the game hadn't given me something to throw myself into and I had no intention of going out there and looking for it myself. The early levels are where you want to catch your audience and I'm sorry to say this game doesn't do that.

I hope everyone who managed to battle through the first 10 or so levels enjoys the game, I can tell it has a lot of potential, but as far as I'm concerned it's lacking in too many areas too early on for me to invest in.

Id send them an email or make a topic about this on one of the official forums, the more they hear this kind of opinion the better.

Maybe... except for the comment that he did not like to read all the text... and for anyone in that category I'm not so sure TCoS is for them. Also, the poster strikes me as someone for whom TCoS is too different from the typical MMO formula... hard to tell from the comments as what is lacking in too many areas isn't specified really... but anyhoo, I want TCoS to stick to its guns and, to be blunt, ignore the opinions of folks wanting TCoS to be more like every other MMO out there.
