Akarrian Expansion (Whispers in Akarra Shard)

Hello fellow gamers,

Anyone else out there remember a good old game called "Whispers in Akarra"? It was a great game... the only issue that arised with it is that the developer... well, lets just say he had a habit of starting projects, then not seeing them through to the end.

Well, the developer decided that since he would no longer be running a server, he would make the server data available to others that would make use of it. These servers, or "shards" were mostly communities of wanna be programmers, who not only didn't know how to enhance or balance the game properly, but allowed torrents of dissension and over-all unfriendliness destroy the community in their game. Thusly, most of these shards, over time, faded into memory.

However, there is one left. One AMAZING one left.

The name of the game? Akarrian Expansion.

The team on this game, not only got their server up and running properly, but picked up developing the game where it was left off by the developer. For example:

-They actually COMPLETED the class tree. Rather than just having Apprentice, Fighter, and Neophyte as class options, the players now can choose from over 25 classes following the class tree (with 15 different "Final" classes that can be aimed for).

-Hand in hand with the completion of the class tree, a PLETHORA of skills are now available.

-Soul color actually MATTERS now. It affects the spells you can cast, along with the ability to wear certain armor.

-There are TONS of armor and weapons to choose from. Some can be bought, others must be crafted via special item recipes.

-The map is HUGE. You can spend a week starting out, and you probably wont have explored 1/20th of the map.

-The scenery is well done. The graphics are still pixellated, but the scenery is amazing.

-The storyline actually makes sense

-There are HUNDREDS of different monsters to find, fight, and plunder.

The community that I've met thus far are extremely friendly. And, best of all? The game is actually completely free. No "Donation Items", no monthly fee, no nothing.

Now, recently the server has been dying off... to the point where there are only 3-4 players on at any one time. Why? Not enough people know about it. The team certainly does not have the money to advertise, as they don't charge for their services.

This is why I'm posting here. I'm hoping to get the word out about this wonderful game, and keep it alive.

So, to end my rant, if you want to play and old school, expansive, and immersing game, and be part of a friendly community, play Akarrian Expansion. You won't regret it.

I love these kind of graphics, for whatever reason always makes me feel more immeresed. But Ive yet to find out one which has a nice smooth movement, like UO's back in the day. Its always jerky click to move kinda stuff. I hoep this is diffrent, Ill give it a try after I get home.

I always enjoyed these odd old school graphics but they need great gameplay to back up mediocre graphics. I doubt this game can provide that since they are resorting to posting adds on forums and such.

Looks pretty cool.  Kinda reminds me of final fantasy 1 or 2.  I could care less about graphics in a  game (I'll take stick figures) if the gameplay is good.

    -Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

This would have been a fun game... twenty years ago.

It's the 21st century god damn it, don't make such old relics anymore.

Some of us like the nostalgia... ;)

And besides, it's not as though anyone's holding you by the throat, saying "PLAY DAMN IT!". I simply posted this for anyone who was interested... I understand that not everyone wants to play games like this. :P
