I was getting tired of the constant bashing one game or the other was getting so here is my honest opinion:
WoW has nothing on EQ2. Period. This game is for children, meaning: it holds your hand all the way through. You don't have to figure anything out for yourself. When you're looking for a quest, you know exactly where to go (the question marks on the NPC's), and when you're done...guess what? It even HIGHLIGHTS the NPC on your radar map so you can find your way back! You can purchase all spells via a merchant, no crafting or figuring things out for yourself, oh no! The cartoonish graphics will NOT hold up 2-3 years from now, whereas EQ2 is designed for future upgradeability. SOUNDS inside a building does NOT make it FEEL like you're in a tavern. In EQ2 the world FEELS ALIVE. How? There are dozens and dozens of NPC's walking around doing their own things (like their own behavioral patterns, etc), cats chasing after rats on the city streets, dogs chasing cats, NPC's walking around greeting each other AND you, you walk into a tavern and it FEELS like it because there is actually things going on around you, not just SOUNDS like it. You go outside into the world and it's the same thing. WoW does not feel like a living breathing world, sorry but it just doesn't. I have played both right to the end of beta, so don't give me no %%&^ lip about not having played the game. The world is smaller (ran out of quests within the first town, where in EQ2 I've done over 180 within Qeynos alone); the character creation is as a crappy as FF11: VERY limited in choices, where EQ2 has a deep character customization process (don't listen to the retards who say they looked like others in the game); the community is great: I have not had one single problem hanging out at a spot and asking someone near me to group even if only for a few minutes, try getting some mature conversations going in WoW...HA! (just watch the general chat box in WoW for the constant childish blabber); As far as being able to run it and lag issues are concerned? You can easily pick which server (east or west coast) to play on, making lag less of a problem, and the computer issue? Well, let's just say that it runs fine on lower settings, but honestly, maybe you just need to upgrade a little--sure WoW will run on your system, but so will all older looking games that don't demand much of your crappy 5-8 yr old system. If you're going to whine that you can't play it or the requirements are too high: go play console games and leave the computer games to the big boys that have jobs and can afford to pay for upgrades, not whine about using mommy's computer that can't handle it. YES there are a few small issues in the game, but isn't there in all of them? Joe schmo isn't going to be happy with no pvp (who cares anyways!), Marty schmo isn't going to be happy with this or that..big deal! It's not made just for that one person who thinks every game should be tailored to just HIM. And comparing this to SWG?!?! Are you $^$%^% serious?!?! HAHA!! Not even close.
WoW is a "cute" game if you want your hand held throughout the game and don't want to think for yourself; EQ2 has WAY more depth and content and will continue to get better. I played EQ1 on a friend's computer for a little while and hated it. I bought FF11 and was disgusted with so many things about, I gave it up after the trial period. I'm not going to go whine at the FF11 boards about how much the game sucked (to me), I just called it a money loss and moved on.
EQ2 has a dynamic combat system, you don't just click attack and go make a sandwich. The death system is great and not as bad as others would make you think. Compared to FF11's death penalties!!! Gimme a ^*^* break. The character creation in FF11 was AWFUL. I don't want to look like every 3rd person I see pass by. It is SO easy to solo; don't listen to what others say about that. I have been able to solo a druid to 17 so far. People are smart and friendly, not childish and immature like in WoW (or practically non-exsistant in FF11). Finding someone to group with is EASY and FAST: I'm totally serious on this. I'm still fairly new to mmorpgs but let's be honest: the nature of the beast is that there will always be some kind of "grind". You can't expect to start a character at level 1 and walk in and slay the dragon, right? You have to earn your power. There is TONS of content in EQ2 and a hell of a lot more fun than FF11. Plz hold yourself back, I'm a hardcore FF fan too. I'm not a EQ or WOW fanboy, but bottom line: I bought this game and am having LOTS of fun with it. That's just my HONEST opinion.

masz calkowitom racje . Choc pewno za chuja nie wiesz co napsialem ale everquest2 is the best .Wow is
I've always been under the impression that WoW is a game for now, and will be massively popular for a few years whereas EQ2 is going to be a much longer lasting game.
I'm waiting for the WoW release at the moment, and haven't tried EQ2 at all yet. But I know once I've played WoW to death, EQ2 is where I'll be heading for a long time..
If you think EQ2 is better then WoW or vice versa. Then you my friend are crazy. You want to know what the only real differences are between the two?
A) graphics
approach to combat (EQ2 stole theirs from FFXI. While FFXI stole theirs from EQ1.)
C) Zone vs Steamless
D) WoW is Solo/Group/Raid/Quest while EQ2 is Group/Raid/Quest.
That's it. Both games are so incredibly dumbed down that anyone age 12+ would have no problem playing either. The choice of which to buy and play will boil down to.
1) Willingness to upgrade (if applicable)
2) Playstyle peference

I would have gotten both instead of just EQII if I had the time and if America's Army was not so fun.

Anyway, I agree with the original poster about one thing, in WoW I did feel like the game was leading me by the hand on a few occasions, where I would have liked to find something out for myself (which wouldn't have been that hard anyway) but still got directions where exactly to go.
Luckily not all quests were like that so I hope once you get out of the beginning areas they will be gone completely.
Apart from that, my view on WoW is different, but that's just a matter of tastes after all.
As usual, we have a poster who posts HIS opinion about GAMES, NOT the people who play the games, and he includes detailed reasons for his opinions.
What he gets back from the WOW contingent, which is still patrolling the EQ2 board for some reason (I guess taking their shift at making sure no EQ2 player says or thinks anything negative about God's Perfect Game), is being called crazy, immature, and a hypocrite because they don't agree with his opinion. Naturally, no one could possibly disagree with their opinions without being defective in some say.
The one of you geniuses complains about him insulting people (I must have missed that part) and then immediately complains that he didn't insult people good enough. Guess you showed him huh.
When all this started I fully intended to try WOW one of these days, since I usually keep a second game going for change of pace, server down times, etc. Having watched the behavior of the WOW nuts for months now, I'm either going to stay in Eve for a second game or get Guildwars. Some are going to say that people shouldn't be influenced by the others playing. I don't see how you can avoid it. How many of us want to walk into a sea of these people and try to enjoy a game.

If you think that there is any needed intelligence to play a video game you are sorely mistaken.
It takes intelligence to understand meaning behind a book. Its satire/sarcasm/hidden social commentary.
It takes anyone with enough time to play a video game.
/agreed.
I mean come on these games are not highly intellectual games otherwise they wouldn't sell so well. ANyone even a monkey could prob play WoW or EQ2.
Grind, grind, grind, get items, speak 1337 speak, get items, grind some more. Rinse and repeat.
I remember reading an article on it where developers purposely make games AI stupid so that Players have a decent chance at winning. If the AI was intelligent players would get owned all the time and not like the game.
basically all pc games are for 5 year olds +.

What i dont get is why people make these reviews ^ ^. Ive played both so i could do one... but in all honesty its a complete and utter waste of time. Its not gonna convince anyone other than yourself what your saying.
Perhaps the people who do these threads like to see people flame them (with a topic so discussed and heated as this what else do you expect?), perhaps see it in text (their opinions) or just to get it off their chests.
Me i could make one for every game i've played but the little nuances and hates that i have are mine and mine alone . Its what makes me different from other people cause their my views/opinions and i generally keep all the little reasons to myself and usually just say "I dont like it because its bland" or "I like it because you get 3 soul shards that you got to return to when you die... if you dont i especially like being gimped for 3 days or beggind passing groups for help".
You are right tho these forums have quietened down since WoW released. Im just waiting on WoW European. After i get bored of WoW ill prob test the trial for EQ2. Until then i can only really have one MMORPG love at a time.
I've played EQ2 before but i don't hate it, just disliked it a little at the time. perhaps the problems i had with it will be gone in a year or so when my WoW addiction starts waning (if it does heh).

I'm scared to say it because I'm playing EQ2 now and was in WoW CB and I'm basically loving those game but... it looks like prophecy and unfortunately this one will become a reality... PoP expansion destroyed EQ1 and started leading MMO games into their end. I just hope that I'm wrong
All you doing is making the WoW trolls pack in here and the EQ2 fanbois attack back.
Can the good moderators keep closing this type of threads pls thanks.
Well since more people are playing wow and more people like it then EQ2, you look pretty silly. Look at the user reviews on this site.. or even better look at gamespot user reviews of the two games. It doesnt matter what your primitive brain thinks WoW kicked the crap out of EQ2. Not saying EQ2 has bombed but its not done as well as WoW, more people bought WoW and more people rate it higher. Even your Slantented fanboy reviews can bring the scores down.
Pay attention to the user reviews, not only the score but the amount of them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I only trust proffesional reviews, not by users as they're most likely biased. I love IGN who has great unbiased reviews, and GamePlasma.com too. I dislike Power Unlimited's reviews (Dutch gaming mag with shite quasi-dirty teen humor), and I don't really like GameSpot either. If GamePlasma says WoW is heaps better then EQ2, so be it, but untill then, WoW does not own EQ2 and visa versa. It's like comparing milk with peanut butter, as an Extra Live comic once said.
I would say your very biased opinion BlkDragonJAJ. Yes, questgivers do have an Exclamation mark over their head, and last time I lokked so they did in EQ2. And once you have completed a quest they have a yellow Question mark over them. You clearly have not been inside Stormwind, because there you have NPC's moving all around the cite, one by one and in groups. I'll give that in EQ2 it's easier to find a specific NPC as you can always ask the guards, then you get a line directing you to them. In WoW you can't ask for specific NPC's and they only give the general area in which they are located.
The cartoony looks in WoW are based on the Warcraft games, in which all the characters have the same cartoony look, if not as detailed as in WoW. And yes, character creation is limited, yet for some reason I never ran into a "twin" of any of my characters there, while in EQ2 I meet 3 or more duplicates of each of my foyr Avatars in spite of the more detailed character creation. Might depend on the fact that most of those custom looks never are visible in-game.
All in all there's basically two things in EQ2 wich I like better than in WoW. The newbie island, very good tutorial, and that you all finished quests remain in your "journal" so you can keep track of what you have done so far.
In the end which game is better is completely depending on the players point of view, and what he/she likes better. In my case EQ2 got a 6.x in the review, and WoW got an 8.x something, entirely based on what I thought of each game, as opposed to many WoW and EQ2 fans around here that gives a 10 to their favourite and a 1 to everything else...
Wickes Noteworthy points about EQ2 is by far the best and most honest review of either game I've seen so far (Read that un-biased)
