I signed up for vangaurd today expecting to pay 14.99 for a one month subscription as advertised. Upon checking my bank account I noticed I was charged an extra 1 dollar for Station cash? This will cause my bank account to overdraw in which I will owe the bank 35 dollars for that 1 dollar that they snuck in my purchase. I purchased the subscription with 15.50 in my bank account and the 14.99 is what I expected to pay! I will not use station cash whatever it is or may be. If this overdraws my account for that one dollar...I will find a legal way to get them to be held responsible. At no time in signing up for my sub to vangaurd did I agree to a one dollar station cash purchase!!! They already have a very bad rep with the mmo community and now making it worse by using hidden fees! I called SOE to see what the Dollar Station cash was all about and they claim the hours of operation are mon-fri 10am to 7pm PDT. It is now about 12:40pm PDT and thier automated system says they are closed because its not normal bussiness hours. WTF IS THAT???? I think I'll go clean my shotgun!

that sucks, probably missed a check mark somewhere in the signup process that added a dollar. Not cool either way.
Sounds shady, but......$1 is the difference between overdrawing your account or not? Yikes.....
If I remember correctly that dollar is temporarily used to verify your credit/debit card, and it should be reimbursed the next buisness day, or after your account goes active.
playing eq2 and two worlds
Thats exactly correct. They debit the dollar especially if you haven't used that card before to purchase game time. It will be refunded back to you and you shouldn't be charged as its refunded almost as immediately as its charged, it just takes a couple days to process through your bank.
Worst case scenario, don't look for "legal actions" just dispute the charge if it comes down to an overage.
Were your parents on step #2? I've rarely seen a gaming company with extended customer support hours, so the hours are probably not the real issue here - they're no different than most. Why the heck you would be trying to cut it that close with your account? You should seriously consider getting some type of overdraft protection.
As a point of note, you can link your savings account to the checking account so that if in the future you have a similar issue it will draw from the savings account.
Otherwise, as a gentleman suggested, ask your bank about overdraft protection.

I absolutely can not believe you ACTUALLY POSTED THIS THREAD! The fact that an institution takes out an extra dollar that most of the time just verifies the card is active is absurd. The problem in this situation is that you failed to balance your finances properly. Trying to buy something that is less then a dollar under your balance is YOUR FAULT. The funny thing is that you actually think it is the costomer support of Vanguard that is your problem, and that you think you will be reimbursed. Learn to manage your bank account better and you wont be in this situation. Dont blame it on Vanguard.
P.S. I am not a "fan boi" and stopped playing this game a while ago. It is however a great game but just dont have time anymore
That would be kind of odd as they stated the extra dollar was for station cash...
"Upon checking my bank account I noticed I was charged an extra 1 dollar for Station cash?"
Vanguard doesn't use station cash...
What you might see is something like....
I just resubbed but its gone already. when you subscribe to a game (most any company) or reactivate a sub... There will be a "pending" charge for $1.00 (listed as a seperat charge).
This is how they verify that your billing information is valid. It should be listed as something to do with Sony or Station (but not station cash).
That $1.00 will never move past "pending" and any bank will list that for normally 3 days (if you are in the US) then it will vanish... it shouldn't trigger an overdraft as it will never be processed... Altho as its pending it may say you are overdrawn until it is removed from the pending list.. but if your bank tries to do an over draft charge... contact them. Pending charges haven't happened.... that's why they are pending... thus it shouldn't be an issue.
Keep an eye on it obviously... I'm not sure if you even see these on credit cards... its one of the annoying things with debit cards tho.
*edit*
I guess I'm getting old and typing slower... that was only one response when I was typing this ;p
that sucks.
i'll go ahead and say it. with so little in your account, you really shouldn't have made that purchase in the first place. somethin crazy like that always happens when you're teetering on the edge. should've given yourself a little more room to breathe first.
ya live and ya learn though.
I am a 35 year old man who knows how to balance a fuckin checkbook/account. I have already subbed to the game before so there is no need to verify my credit card. And it states on my account overview clearly (Station Cash for 1 dollar)...and I am saying the customer support as far as the phone lines go just plain sucks...sorry to offend you SOE fanclub members..

ok, calm down. It wasn't readily apparent that you were 35 years old. I have come across many younger people who had relatively little experience with credit cards and bank accounts who are just discovering the best way to use them.
I agree that what you agree to pay for should be the only amount charged to your account and that all additional charges should be clear.
However, you must admit that you were cutting it pretty close with 1 dollar. I usually like to leave a heftier amount as I just don't tend to have all my bills automatically paid and don't like to cut it so close.

Maybe your not capable of balancing your account down to the last buck. But I have had no problems doing it for years. Im just pissed off that I was not notified about the extra dollar. Like I said before I have subbed to the game before with the same card so I dont know what the hell (SOE Station Cash= $1.00) is all about. So go easy there navyboy

You obviously cant balance your checking account properly or you wouldnt be here posting about an extra dollar. The fact that you stated your 35 years and only have $15 dollars in your bank account makes it even worse. I guess some of us move out of mama's house sooner then others.
I wonder why this hasn't happened to anyone else.
Dunno if this is the case here, but some people have multiple bank accounts which they use for different things. For me I have a separate one that I only put just enough money into too pay for my MMO addictions each month or add additional funds to just for an online purchase. I do this because I have my account info out there at a ton of different sites and many different MMOs as my interests change from month to month.
You never know when something could go wrong and one of your accounts gets hacked or keylogged or any number of other wierd happenings. It keeps me safe because there is nothing in there but a small amount if this should ever happen, but unfortunately it does also fall prey to over-charge fees which suck, but I've learned to keep an additional small amount for those instances...
This post is making me feel really good about myself right about now......no offense.
I would assume the $1.00 is the pending charge to verity the card is valid, almost every game company out there now does this.
I have seen this on several subs I have done, and weather you have used the card before or not, would not matter as its checking to make sure its valid now.

Hehe, same here. I'm 33 and would never spend the last amount of money, that was in my account at a specific time, to sub to a game.
Check this out...My account did overdraw in the amount of 36.00 dollars. However I received an email this morning from SOE and they did refund my account for the above amount and said a mistake was made on their part for the Dollar transaction. The email did not state what the (SOE Station Cash) charge was about though. Im assuming maybe it was credit card valadation but I have already used that card and was resubbing. Oh well...I cant complain now that they have made good on the subject. Cant beleive Im gonna say this...but...Thanks SOE..I guess....

I'm happy you resolved this and perhaps it would be a good move to keep a standard 10 dollar buffer on all your credit accounts and balance as if that wasn't there.
Sorry you lost 35 bucks.
