What the Darkfall community should do with Eurogamer
So I heard about that "declaration of war". Probably the stupidest thing to do right now. Because how serious they may be, or how loyal to their game they think they are, the Darkfall community is only hurting its case by appearing to be detached, childish nerds. The spot to aim for is the moral high-ground. You won't get that spot by unleashing insults, threats and/or vandalism.
They are, however, in their right to act. I'd act to if I were them.
How about this suggestion:
There's a whole lot of game sites and game magazines all around the world. Most never, ever get to the stage of reviewing independent, low-profile, niche games. Hell, even large sites/magazines often neglect to review all studio-released mmorpg's.
What the community could do is to petition all these sites/magazines/programs that do reviews and ask them very politely and friendly if they please would be so kind as to review Darkfall. Perhaps even ask them if they would spend more at least 20 hours in the game, to make sure they experience the full scope of it. If that doesn't come accross as too needy, you could even consider offering to loan your own accounts, just so they can experience the game from different perspectives.
I'd like to suggest a few very important pointers if people are goin to go ahead with this.
-Don't allow freelancers, so keep it low-profile: Worst thing to happen is a few morons going frelance ignoring all following pointers.
-Be local: Make sure you aim for magazines/sites/programs that are local and known to Darkfall players. A magazine from Italy shouldn't be contacted by a guy living in Texas. People from Norway should "do" norway in the local language and stay on top of it. This because it showsthe scope of the action and because it shows the sincerity of the people involved. Consider sending real life letters, if that's not too awkward.
-Be personal: Use your real names when signing a letter. Provide phonenumbers and other contact data. AND VERY IMPORTANT: Don't use standard mails/letters for everyone. Make a personal one for every magazine/site/program. Recount instances where they did review an indy game. Mention moments they went contrary to public opinion.
-Don't keep score: Present it as a free offer. Not something they should worry about when they react the wrong way. Fire and forget, but if they react, always take the time to react.
-DO NOT THREATEN: It doesn't matter you happen to own, pwn, burn cows, pillage women and rape cows all over the interity of Darkfall. Be cortious and friendly to the people you are asking a favor from.
I know all of this might sound demeaning... But I was inclined to point out these obvious things to people who "declare war" on a site.

what should the community do? thank eurogamer for not being brutally honest about how horrible this game is, to a reasonable person, from the "i want to buy this game" standpoint. hell the server page says it's up, and all i do is timeout when trying to log on.
seriously -- this game has major damn issues. and no amount of fanboi'ing is causing my client to log into the server that is currently UP.
i'm looking around, and seeing a lot of non truthful people.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Yeah the Darkfall population should totally come out in opposistion to Freedom of the Press. That'll work.
Ignore Eurogamer. DF has eaten, digest and finally droped out EG. EG is now a case for toilet.

This is a gross mis-use of the term freedom of press. Freedom of press applies to government censorship. If a private citizen or multiple private citizens protest someone else's spoken word, there is no government action, therefore not a Freedom of press issue. Also, Freedom of Press doesn't say that the press can print anything they please, there are certain limits, such as writing things that can cause injury to others, reckless disregard for the truth, etc... The FCC regulations are a prime example of limitation of Freedom of Press. Why do you think they can't cuss on public television?
Btw, people who like Darkfall have just as much Freedom of Speech to say they like it as someone who does not.

As others have said, the community should ignore Eurogamer. If that review cost a few subs, so what? Those were probably subs that wouldn't have lasted beyond the first month anyway. Frankly, this review has gotten much more attention than it warranted, and if the Darkfall community keeps trying to attack them for that review, then in the end those actions will lose far more subs for DF than the original review.
Essentially, nobody cares what a reviewer says based on such a short amount of time. However, a lot of people do care about the reaction. And the childishness surrounding the reaction to that review is far more capable of turning people away... which gives the reviewer exactly what he was aiming for to begin with.
Be the better people and let the issue die.
The problem with "ignoring" is that this wasn't a fair review at all. Tasos has logs to prove that. (If you're saying the logs are manufactered then I fear for your knowledge of computers).
Secondly there's the fact that a game like Darkfall won't be reviewed a lot. Ever. So EG's review will stand out immensely while it shouldn't.
I really agree that they shoyuld ingore it, but maybe that will do too much damage, this time. A discrete, friendly action like the one I proposed might do some good.

.Tasos is looking for a Free ride..We all know he is strap for cash..He is looking for a hype to his game..But it does appear to me he is heading in the wrong direction.What good is a game when you cant play it? You need to stand in line to get in..They charge full price with some of the features on..You get ganked at the noobie starting area by higher levels because the rest of the Darkfall World does not keep the Higher levels Fanboys entertain..You need to run from point A to point B naked so that you dont lose anything when you do get ganked..This Darkfall sounds really entertaining dosent it?With a Review of 2/10 I can see why Darkfall got it..Its really not should I say Noober friendly..

So you think acting like a bunch of petulant children is somehow going to negate a review that is itself meaningless? The point it it's not helping Darkfall and Darkfll doesn't need your help anyway.

I'm not saying they should act like children. On the contrary. I'm saying that they should channel their "anger" (big word here) to something positive. The problem is that the review IS NOT meaningless. I understand your confusion. You're used to big studio games. This isn't one.

And don't behave like small children. Ignore the review if you don't like it. Or you could act like a grown up, and relealize that the game is the biggest turd they have seen in MMO history. I didn't spend a single hour in the game, but I did my "research", and I know damn well that I wouldn't like it.
Get over it. Darkfall will get more negative reviews. And even positive reviews doesn't matter, right? I mean, WAR and WOW are getting positive reviews? And those games are so non-hardcore... carebears!
I agree entirely with the OP. The only thing that will really redress the balance is to not try and prove EG wrong but instead to prove them to be in a minority. Get the game reviewed elsewhere and do everything you can as a community to raise DFO's profile in a positive way.
Stop wasting time and effort on despising someone because you feel short-changed by them; nothing will be accomplished. The review is out there and it's already become larger and more important to DFO than it has any right to be due to the actions of Tarsos and the DFO community.
DFO needs new friends right now, not ever more vociferous old ones who seem to be spending more time spitting invective and bile at a games site and reviewer than either playing the game itself or trying to redress the balance by doing something of real benefit to the game and the community.
