Mass Effect+Star Wars skin+Battlegrounds+neutral hobs(social areas)+multiplayers abilties=ToR
that actually sounds like an awesome game...considering each of those you listed were amazing
Well, if you liked ME and KoToR and are willing to pay $15(or whatever they will charge) a month for them then you will love this game. Just saying many folks seem to still be expecting a traditional type of MMO with SW and great story line. This is not going to be a traditional MMO.
This article sums up pretty well what the game will be like overall. This was the article that started me thinking about ToR being a single player game with MMO addons.

Honestly for me if a game goes over the 15 dollar mark i know i will not be playing it. Even when games first went to 15 bucks a month from 10 dollars a month i was like are you kidding? I dont care how awsome any game is i wont feed corporate greed.

Let me guess, SWG pre-cu is what you want?
To answer your question yes but I came to terms long ago that I will never see that game again. I knew when ToR was announced that it was nothing like any version of SWG. Just saying many folks have high expectations of this being a traditional MMO and it doesnt seem to be.

From the article: "One thing we want to be clear about is that even though we are adding new things to the MMO space – story, companion characters – we are still a massively multiplayer game. We know that we have to have the features that people who are fans of that genre are expecting. We know there are different audiences.
We need to appeal to the BioWare audience – fans of Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect – and we need to appeal to fans of the MMO genre. We've kept those both in mind, and we feel we've succeeded in that regard."
Those lines lead me to think of TOR as a single player game with MMO addons thrown in. Basicly, if your a fan of KoToR and ME then you will love this game. But if your expecting WoW/EQ/Warhammer type of game then I think many will be dissapointed.

We really can't tell this early on. A lot of the Kotor fan base was crying that this game is a MMO. Mass Effects fans have cried because they wanted an MMO.
I think they are trying to make everybody happy, although this is a good thing, it can backfire if the MMO part seems left when the game releases. But I don't think they will make this mistake, but I'm also not 100% sure either.
I'll still play it though, sounds more fun then anything released in the last few years.
Edit: i'll also add for the love of god I hope this game is not like WoW or any of those others. I been playing WoW far to long to hop onboard a game just like it.
Well, HDomni, didn't really mean to say the game was anything like WoW or the others, just in terms if the "openess" and multiplayer aspects. Between the references to KoToR and ME, throw in "companions" and it looks more like Guild Wars style of play but without being able to group up and head out.
Remember, with choices changing your story line, I dont think "grouping" will be possible unless the others you are grouping with have made the same choices and have that exact story line going.

And thats a good question that needs to be answered to clear all speculation, hopefully with each friday things will become clear. I would say this is probably the biggest concern of the community. But considering most of their games were party based I don't see them not focusing on it, I'm pretty sure they see this mentioned daily. Hopefully they took it into consideration and will release the information on it we wish to hear.
I don't know why everyone assumes that their "guess" of grouping being non-existance (or very small part) in this game. I mean, we have Dev's telling us on several accounts that there will be loads of stuff you will be able to do with your friends.
The only concession to the single-player rumor they made, allegedly, is that they say that a large part of their game will be -soloable-. That means, you -can- play it solo, not -have- to play it solo.
And yet, everyone continues to assume, with references to companions, to story and the like, that grouping will be impossible or a miniature part of the game.
Why is this? I mean, I certainly don't have the answer to it, but when the Dev's say that they have loads of stuff you can do with friends and that they are keeping in mind the MMO part of the game, then why not believe them?
Well of course, you can say, never trust a Dev. Not much I can say then. I don#t trust many Dev's anymore. BioWare...well, they have not yet disappointed me with any of their games. So they have the benefit of the doubt from me.

I don't think many people doubt what they say about grouping, I believe it sums up to confusion of how it will be executed. Like KB said, how will it work if you are not on the same path you chose for yourself.
I do agree with you though, I'm quite sure they are capable of designing a grouping system that will make us rather happy. And the fact that BioWare has yet to fail me. (cept the bug riddled rushed release of Kotor II, still a good game though)

Ah, but KOTOR II was not done by BioWare. That was Obsidian. Although most of the people at Obsidian are ex-BioWare...I think.
Anyway, as for -how- they plan to do it, I do not know. But as you said, for now, I'll just wait and see and have faith that the BW guys have come up with a good system to allow players in different story-arcs to play together. Not much more we can do anyway. ^^

Yeah I'm talking about Kotor II, I was not being sarcastic. I just don't pay attention to the game as it loads. And miss this every time.

Why would making different choices hamper grouping? In every other quest based MMO, you can group with other players that have completely different quests than you. Nothing said so far has indicated TOR will be different. If I have to kill foozle A, and you have to kill foozle B, due to the two of us making different choices, it will be very likely that you and I can help each other kill our respective foozles.
Everything released about the game so far indicates a WoW type MMO with more words. I don't really understand where the idea that TOR is going to be anything else is comming from. BioWare opened a studio in Austin, hired a bunch of game developers that have worked on MMOs, licensed an MMO engine, and claim to be making an MMO. So far there has been nothing to indicate they are making something other than an MMO. The focus on promoting the game having wals and walls of text, or as they put it, 'story', is based on that being the feature that will distinguish the game from other theme park style MMOs. Promoting it as 'WoW with a Star Wars skin', or 'A Star Wars MMO that won't suck, or at the very least will be better than the current abomination MMO that has some graphics that indicate it is intended to be based on the Star Wars IP' doesn't really provide much of a hook to peal away players of other MMOs, or hook the people that complain MMOs don't have enough words, or 'story' (which has been a common complaint since UO was released).
