F2P with smooth gameplay?

ShorunShorun Member UncommonPosts: 247

Hey there,

Well. I played many MMOs and when I write many, I mean MANY. P2Ps, F2Ps, Guild Wars (wahtever it is), and I've noticed one thing. F2Ps do not have smooth gameplay. Okay, now you might think "WTF is he talking about?".

I will explain it.

My favorite MMOs of all times are Ragnarok Online and WoW. Many other games have quite the same features. But not that kind of gameplay.

For example - I tried a free MMO called "Secret of Solstice". Looks like a good RO-Clone. But if you start fighting, your character just stands there, doing nothing for one or two seconds. It just feels crap. You confront the enemy and your character seems to think about what to do next. "Hmm.....oh....I should attack...oh how I hate this". In WoW or RO, you can grind the hell out of your brain and it won't feel automatic.

I ask you, does anyone of you know a Grinding F2P with smooth gameplay?

I'd say Maple Story fits that description pretty well, also Rappelz, Perfect World, Flyff, and quite a few more that I can't think of off the top of my head.

There is an iro (Ragnarok Online) free server now. Valkyrie. I play from europe and have no lag problems at all.

Runes of Magic has some nice gameplay.  LOT's of ex World of Warcraft players in the game too, either that they got bored with WOW, that it was becoming like a 2nd job, that they don't like the monthly fee, that DK's messed up the game, etc.  Many that I group with say they can't believe how good ROM is for a F2P.

On massively.com, it was listed as the #2 best F2P mmo behind Sony's new Free Realms, which you might also consider, though it is for the younger crowd.

I can also second trying Runes of Magic and Free Realms. I'm an ex-harcore WoW player myself. I think both games are excellent for being free.

Runes of Magic I have not played a lot yet but it does seem to have a lot of potential. It has anime style characters though which isn't for everyone. If you enjoyed RO though it shouldn't be an issue.

Free realms is free to play but has a $5 optional monthly fee that unlocks some things like 5 additional classes and use of certain items/quests. Free realms is a very, very casual game however and in my opinion it plays more like a console game.

There are many minigames involved, many of which will feel familiar if you play games like bejewelled, nintendogs, cooking mama etc. I think this is a smart thing to do though, as it gives an alternative to just going out and bopping monsters, though you can still do this too.

As Eunuchmaker said, it is geared towards a younger crowd, but this doesn't mean it can't be fun if you don't take it too seriously. Just consider it like an online console multiplayer and it makes a lot more sense (to me at least).
