Well, I got EQ2 and made it to the city. I found the zone instancing a bit of a hassle. When I have group mobs beating on me, I don't want to have to sit and select 'zone instancing copy' when running to exit. I also have had no luck getting into a group since I left the isle of refuge and I am playing on heavy RP server. I am thinking it has to do with the xp shared penality. I am still playing EQ and I am thinking of just cancelling EQ2 and going back to it. Those players who made it past level 20, does the game change much after level 15? Did you notice that people were reluctant to invite strangers into their groups or is there a solution that I am missing? How much of a problem is this zone instancing as far as immesion and other elements as the game progresses? I don't have time to invest 50+ hours into this game to discover the problems presists.
It would be a pity if these game design flaws continue. The game engine is photo-realistic, voice-over nice, trade skill is immersive and overall the game is fun. But, grouping problems and instancing issues is a killer for a mmorpg.
Thanks for any advice..

Very good advice. EQ2 is a social game, just like EQ1. Either you come with friends, or you make friends, or it's a lonely road. Not games for soloers. It's really not difficult to find groups or other people looking to make friends. Everywhere I go I hear people OOCing for grouping constantly. RP servers are often a different social experience though. I assume you went there to RP And I don't see how you having trouble meeting people is a "game flaw".
As for instances, I've never yet failed to zone out succesfully due to the extra half second to pick an instance, and frequently, you're not escaping into a zone with multiple instances so double left click zones you immediately. I love instances. If you're collecting tradeskill items and there are a lot of people covering one instance, go to another. If you're seeking a certain mob and it's camped in one, go to another. If you can't find a group in one, go to another. If one instance is just too crowded for your tastes, pick another. Etc. Use them to your benefit.
Maybe because the game is new to me, but I found it easier to make friends or joining groups in EQ1 versus EQ2. The problem tend to be I think when doing a quest that requires a group mob and you can't find someone else doing the same quest or want to join you to do that quest. This is the frustration I found. Hunting groups are not hard. It is quest groups that tend to be. I went to the RP server to ensure that I have a more mature crowd. Trouble meeting people isn't a game flaw, but the game punishes an entire group for my death. This could translate into less openess toward inviting new people into the group.
Your success with zoning is admirable, I have not been so lucky when being beaten on by multiple mobs.
Thanks for the rest of the comments about instancing. I guess it really boils down to how you approach it.
I just hit 20 today, and frankly, anyone around my level is welcome in my group
however, it was not the same a couple days ago around 15
at the higher lower end levels (the high part of the newbie levels, 20 or so) the skills of each different class really stand out
everyone needs everyone.
The classes are so balanced, it's amazing!
