Everyone knows people dont play Eve for the combat. It's the complexity, depth and the vast amount of playstyles the game offers players that keeps them playing. Combat in Eve is just something that people got used to.
Twitch combat wont pull Eves players, Complexity, risk and Depth might however.
Imo Eve wont be phased by BP but i am interested in trying the game and I personally Feel this game is going to Own JGE (The MMO that it will be fighting for subs with).

I think it will pull a few away from Eve, but not many.

Ya JGE and BP will fight for subs more so then Eve... But JGE is going to have the advantage of an earlier release.

I'm don't know which game will be better, JGE or BP...  but I think both will take players away from Eve... if not current subs, then future potential ones.  I believe a lot of people play Eve because it is the only game in town if you are looking for a space MMO.  I think when it has some competition, and competition that is focusing on getting right the things Eve does wrong... CCP will see their growth slow to a crawl, or start to see a decline in subs.

See that's the problem isn't it. Eve does nothing wrong.

CCP chose to have Rts combat, that's not a wrong decision, CCP chose to make the game deep and complex, They chose to make the game have risk.  CCP has done exactly what they wanted with Eve and the players that play the game love it.

You guys that tried the game and left either during a trial or during some Nerf aren't the target playerbase CCP want therefore you don't matter.  Eve is a totally different game then both JGE and BP I feel bad for any Eve hater that thinks either of those games will take anything from Eve now or in the future.

What you should be worried about is if BP or JGE will have enough players to even have more then a few thousand players that are willing to pay for a montly space arcade experience when you can clearly get that for free in other multiplayer pvp games.

If either of those games release WoW in space its game over.

Edit: If you don't like a specific gameplay feature in a MMO that doesn't mean the devs made a mistake in adding that feature. If I played BP and didnt like the combat I wouldnt be on a forum saying (Insert generic Dev team here) made a mistake putting it out.

I would like to see either BP or JGE take a few gameplay tips from EVE. EVE is a quality title and isn't going anywhere. But the battle of both games JGE and BP will be a good one :) Sometimes going first to release isn't always the best thing. Yeah you will get the initial crowd that will play it for 30-60 days and then what. AoC for me lasted 90 days before I quit because of a lack of content and bugs. If either game is unfinished at lauch it will hurt them bad. I think JGE is noticing that and not sure if they will meet there released date because there forums have been really quite lately.

Something doesn't have to be an accident to be a mistake.  I think Eve could be the perfect space MMO if it weren't for several terrible design decisions.  Obviously you don't agree with me, and that's cool.  I consider the decision to go with point and click piloting to be a mistake.  Same goes for real-time skill training, auto-orbit-auto-fire combat, the over-harsh death penalty, terribly uninspired mission system, ridiculous travel times, in-game currency sales... I could go on, but i don't really want to debate the merits of Eve, and there are a lot of things I like about the game, just a lot less than i dislike.

I t think that these "features" turn away a lot of potential players.  The same complaints about Eve come up over and over.  Even though these features may work exactly as intentended...  I still feel like they made bad decisions, and their subscriber numbers will stop growing in the next year when they have 5 other sci-fi MMO to go up against.  Even with a corner on the market, they have only achieved moderate success.  I would peculate that over half of the people who try the game don't like it, and they generally have the same list of complaints.  If i left any out, click the link in my signature for the full list.

IMO, the less these two games are like Eve, the better.

    I agree with this.

If they decide not to make a deep and complex game then Eve will keep growing because noone and I mean noone that plays Eve is interested in a space arcade themepark.

If these games had exciting Arcade action with the risk, playstyles and PLayer driven economy and politics in Eve I would actually be worried.

Black Prophecy seems to be Freelancer 2 (and it is in no way a bad thing),but that is the feeling I got from the gameplay video a Freelancer combined with another game wich name I forgot (not EVE :P).Anyway I doubt it will be a loss type game like EVE I doubt it will even have the loss mechanics of freelancer.

Also at the rate EVE is going I wont worry too much, since walk in stations is still being worked on and who knows, maibe some day it will turn into a psuedo sci-fi shooter (fighting in stations,in ships etc).

If Reakktor follows what they did in Neocron with PvP it will be loss based. I really have no idea if that is their plan though. Neocron was a PvP game first and formost.

Love the cheap shot at Eve hehe. CCP will never turn Eve into a first person shooter so don't worry about that. Eve will always remain the slower paced strategy game where Black Prophecy and Jumpgate will always be the twitch based combat. The only thing these games will have in common with Eve is the space setting. Comparing Eve to BP would be like comparing Quake to Rainbow 6, 2 games of the same genre but very different games all together.
