I added information to my reply. Sorry I didnt get it completed until everyone started responding.
I to have feel I have been ripped off from other games but I assure in the long run $50 isnt crap.
Thank you for reassuring us on the value of money..............

Well if you went off the website which wasn't updated in ages, that's kindof your fault for not researching more.
But the game is definately not even CLOSE to as great Tasos says it is, thats for sure. I donno, try and sue AV for false advertizing by having an out of date website, if you win it will cause AV to wake up or sell their game to a company with a clue.
oh my god you guys are some seroious broke bastards who have never taken an economics class.
its $50 dollars! Instead of trying to sue use the same time to get a part time job. You will cover your costs in a few hours if you have any skills
Lets get to REAL fucking economics going, LETS BE REALISTIC AS TO HOW SERIOUS THIS IS!
Say we take your star rating, 2.5/5, lets say 2.5 out of 5 people ((Thats 1 every 2 people for you idiots out there)) in the US Bought Darkfall for the 2009 year. 50 bucks is alot of money and more serious than you idiots think, Federal minimum wage suggests it takes atleast 1 full time work day to make that much money, which is 8 hours. Id love to see you guys shovel dirt and make ditches for 8 HOURS.
Lets get to the point, so one every 2 people in the united states is? The current US population is 304,059,724 People.
So that is 152,029,862 people in the united states, times that by 50 USD and you get.
Yes Aventurine would make 7,601,493,100 USD. That is 7 BILLION DOLLARS for the year of the hype.
They could make 7 BILLION dollars every year on their scamming. This is a SERIOUS issue, more serious than Madoff and Enron. People who make light of the scam situation do not know shit. I rest my mother freaking case. GET A LIFE!

Its not about the consumer losing $50, its about the company taking $50 by false advertisement.
If I get scammed out by a company after buying their game for false advertisement, I'd want my money back, not necessarly because the $50 are a big deal(they arent), but mostly because it'd feel buttraped if that company ran away with my money, and I didnt do shit about it.
I think we can all agree that this game consists of pure raw absolute failure. Time to move on and let this shitpile die.
You move on if you want too , but there are alot of people playing it and enjoying it , also the numbers playing it are growing each week.. and even if you think its a shitpile there are 1000's that think it is'nt and like it or not, Darkfall is going to be succsessful in the long run .

I doubt it will be successful. It won't die like Roma Victor did, as its easy to get into PvP (which is fairly mindless and simple to enjoy), but it won't have a huge following. If an MMO isnt finished, people get super pissed and quit. It's as simple as that. If LOTRO wasnt finished when it was released, people would have dropped it like a retarded child.
I've seen it happen before. Right now, the game is JUST FINISHED ENOUGH to engage in PvP. Once they sort out the plethora of maphacks/teleport hacks/speedhacks/etc, they'll fix bugs. Once they sew up the exploits, they'll add more features. However, if they don't do that in a timely fashion, even hardcore fanbois will get sick and quit the game.
he does have a right to say his peace if he feels the game let him down. Thats what these forums are for is allow ppl to speak out one way or the other if they like the game or not.
It's one thing to state that you don't like a video game. It's another to repeatedly insult and berate others for liking it, which is what the majority of the anti-DF crowd does.
Really? because going through this entire thread all i saw was ONE "fanboy" calling people names and trolling three other topics in order to berate and belittle anyone who doesn't agree with him mthat DF "rules" and calling their topics "confusing", and his name is Seanmcad. In case you missed it here is the link before it gets reported: www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/2824038#2824038
I see perhaps you are just biased and indeed trolling for support?
Not all of us DF players are ignorant forum trolls who only come to verbally abuse others.
Either you replied to the wrong post or you misread my post.

I don't normally kick something when its down but the Tasos rant along with the backlash has made me think otherwise. This is the most unprofessional whine I have ever seen from a developer. The game is crap, lots of people feel it.....he should have taken it on the chin while keeping his jaw shut. Instead he tries to detract from the short comings of his game by attacking the reviewer (who seems to be in the wrong as well).
I agree with most of what you have to say about the game, and review-gate in general... but I'm not so sure Ez Zitron is guilty of any impropriety here. When it comes to time playing the game, we have to take Tasos at his word that the guy never played much. I have a problem taking the word of a know snake-oil salesman over the word of a reviewer who I seem to agree with on just about every game he reviews.
it might take a while to get a totally accurate impression of an MMO. But if it's a terrible, buggy, ugly POS, You can usually tell pretty quick. Even going with the amount of time playing Tasos is claiming, it's several play sessions over about a week and a half. IMO, that is plenty of time to know that Darkfall is the over-hyped product of ineptitude and corner cutting.

Well they are fixing bugs very quickly and I've said in previous posts that it does have issues, I'm playing and enjoying it and most people playing think the same, At its core it is a very good game , but I think yeah it will be successful in an Eve type of way it will have a cult following.
Darkfall is'nt for the mainstream of Mmo player I dont think , you only have to look at Eve its very successful but alot of people hate it or cant get to grips with it. I think Darffall will continue though, all be it probably not as successful as people were led to believe.
DF evokes very passionate responses, with some foik really liking it for what it offers, and others like the OP hate it for what it lacks. True for all games I suppose and its hard to say what you will enjoy, unless you can give it a try. (hoping one day DF manages to hold one.)
I think your right a Free Trial at some point in the near future would be best thing that happen to Darkfall, let people make their own minds up once and for all.
I think most people like the OP are upset because they were made to believe that this game was polished, feature complete and ready. I think that Adventurine should have just said that Darkfall will be released in a unfinished state. Bugs and things will fixed overtime and as quickly as possible. Content will be added as the game improves. We will try our best with this game and with your help we can one day have the MMO that we have all dreamed of. I think they should have told all these people who have been following the game for 8 years the truth.

Yeah. I mean, I'm not knocking the rate that they are making progress, I'm just saying that from previous experience with MMOs that have this kind of launch, it takes quite some time to get shit sorted out. I mean, I'll play it because its more entertaining than Ultima Online, and no other MMO so far has met that level of PvP action.
Hopefully, this hacking nonsense will come to an end (or get curtailed seriously) so the exploits and missing features can be focused on.

What do you base this on? Can we see some statistics?

Well I dont have any statistics so to speak but in the time I've been playing it there have been new players joining each night , I know the Shop to buy it is only open a few hours once or twice a week but, for some reason there does seem to be new player nearly everytime I log on. But if your asking if I can prove it by any sort of Stats then no I cant .. but the I guess nobody has got statistics to say it is'nt growing either if that makes sense .

You can't tell how many players are online in DF. I'm assuming the "1000s" prediction comes from number of clans, average members of clan cities, etc. What's really holding back the number of people who will play and stay is this retarded account shop nonsense, but that's just my opinion. (That and the lack of implemented features).
This game gets bashed and hated more and more each day, i didnt like the idea of the open ffa pvp style and looting system so i too bashed it. but i havent actually played the game, and now the more people who bash it, the more interested i am in trying it out. Gimme a free trial damnit!!!!

Yeah there does seem to be alot of talk of Hacking and Cheating and Macro'ng etc but TBH I hav'nt really seen anything myself, Also I guess you would have to know what to look for too. Progress is pretty good and they have said there will be another Patch this week, the only Downtime I've had too is the Daily Server maintenance they have and thats only for an hour or so.
Anyways despite all of the negativity here's hoping and if it does settle down and they get things sorted quick , I think I will hyave found my new Mmo Home , for a while anyway .

Yes you are correct you cant really tell but judging by the amount of Clans there are ( and one even has 2500 members apparently ! ) I would hazard a guess at around the 20,000 mark or maybe a little higher.
I do agree with you about the shop thing though , It is quite quite ridiculous .

I think the main reason people have always bashed DF is BECAUSE of the FFA PvP/Looting thing. Some carebears simply hate the type of psychotic, anti-social, spiteful personalities that it takes to excel in that environment, and they want to rid the world of those types of gamers.
Some genuinely just don't prefer that type of game, but I still say that some make it personal.

Absolute non-sense, people just don't like little turds who have fun at the expense of other people's fun. Making a game that caters for sociopath's is awful and fosters an enviroment of melevolancy. Anyone who find's DF and it's player base's ethos of "F_U loser give me your gear" admirable needs their head checked. Calling reasonable people carebears is just a defence mechanism, it excuses them for being so anti-social and eliteist.

Yes this really is quite extrordinary is'nt , one would expect the negative publicity and the amount of people disillusioned with the game to have had an adverse affect , however it seems to generating quite a large amount of interest in actually trying out the game themselves instead. THis seems then to be an example of negativity turning into something positive.

Absolute nonsense, and yet you just proved what I said? "Reasonable people" make their hate of DF personal because they attack that type of sociopathic community of dog-eat-dog. I call them carebears - not because of a defense mechanism, (as I don't feel the need to defend that type of behavior) but because its what we call "those other people".
I mean, seriously now. Some people in the world behave that way. This type of game is just for them. Just because someone doesn't agree with how those people behave doesn't mean they should rabidly attack the game. We don't attack more civilized games for not catering to our general dislike towards human beings - don't attack our spite breeding grounds.
I don't need to defend how I am or how an environment like Darkfall teaches one to think, because in my opinion, there isn't anything wrong with it. I don't find the player base's ethos' "admirable", mainly because I wouldn't admire someone based on their actions in a video game. Anyway, the point is that in Darkfall, if you can't learn to eat other dogs, you get no respect. Some "Reasonable people" take that personally, and ragecry for the rest of that game's life about it, hating on it at any chance they get.
Anyways. You proved my point. Some people trash the game based on their opinions of the types of players who get along well in that type of scenario, rather than actual flaws (Like game mechanics, graphics, missing features, etc).

Wrong, reasonable people expect a certain level of respect between one another, it's called civility look it up. As for hate? daft use of the word really, to hate means an emotional investment has been made and i find most people who dog on DF are kinda indifferent to the game if anything.

No people state facts about the failure of the game to impliment features that they STILL claim to have in the game, i personally make reference to the player base because i only ever seem to come accross horrid little turds in the DF community, who chat random nonsense and spout vile insults at anyone who disagree with their delusions.

-So carebears expect a certain level of respect between one another, but they don't treat people whose behavior they don't agree with civilly? So if I don't like McDonalds employees for some reason, I can flame the franchise? Maybe I wasnt clear - I was referring to "Reasonable people" as being the anti-PK anti-UO style PvPer. They obviously have an emotional investment into the situation on Darkfall, as they are seemingly disgusted and outraged by something they have nothing to do with. They carry those feelings with them when they flame the community. Granted, a large portion of the community are thirteen year olds who just learned new swear words, but even still. Its the pot calling the kettle black, and its a holier-than-thou attitude.
I mean, seriously now. Some people in the world behave that way. This type of game is just for them. Yeah their called criminals
- Everyone comes from somewhere. Besides, there are plenty of people with this attitude we've discussed that have never been charged with a crime. They simply don't consider the needs or feelings of others save for how they can gain an advantage in what they do.
I don't need to defend how I am or how an environment like Darkfall teaches one to think, because in my opinion, there isn't anything wrong with it. - Because I'm not defending my outlook on the "Darkfall behavior" or the environment, just pointing out that the rabid flames carebears tend to give is just as bad as the "GIMME UR LOOT, FUQUR" mentality.
Anyways. You proved my point. Some people trash the game based on their opinions of the types of players who get along well in that type of scenario, rather than actual flaws (Like game mechanics, graphics, missing features, etc).

- I never said people DON'T make valid points about the game. I said that SOME people make SOME judgements based on the reactions of the community, rather than actually playing the game. SOME carebears are so offended by the psychological environment, the rabid PvP style, the disregard for others that they carry that offense with them and pour it back onto the game without mention of the lack of features, exploits, whatever.
You are trying to make my statements sound like I speak in absolutes. I don't. I'm not even speaking in regards to the general public of carebears, just a few of them.

oh my god you guys are some seroious broke bastards who have never taken an economics class.
its $50 dollars! Instead of trying to sue use the same time to get a part time job. You will cover your costs in a few hours if you have any skills
I couldn't have said it better myself
Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

This.
Tasos would like to thank all of you haters, not a cent spent in marketing or advertising, you are doing a great job

- Everyone comes from somewhere. Besides, there are plenty of people with this attitude we've discussed that have never been charged with a crime. They simply don't consider the needs or feelings of others save for how they can gain an advantage in what they do.
