It kinda reminds me of one of those movies that is soooo bad, it gets a highly dedicated cult following...like Rocky Horror Picture Show. If there was a free trial, I'd be tempted to try it myself just to se if it is as God-awful as it is made out to be.

But the game is definately not even CLOSE to as great Tasos says it is, thats for sure. I donno, try and sue AV for false advertizing by having an out of date website, if you win it will cause AV to wake up or sell their game to a company with a clue.

Well, this would be a true fact IF they bought it. Secondly america is not the only country in the world you idiot, most mmo's players are from overseas fyi. Secondly in a world of over 6 billion people only 12 million play WoW. Which we all know as "lame" as that game is said to be, is still the single most successful mmo to date. Anyway darkfall MIGHT get 10,000 users at the very most, so 10,000 users times 50 is $500,000 cash from game purchases. then w/e their monthly fee is prolly like $15 a month per say. that becomes a whole $150,000 a month btw the costs that come from labor, power, equipment, ISP charges, office rental etc etc etc. they'll be bankrupt within a year. So yes on a mass scale $50 would be a big issue, but darkfall will NEVER see that kind of scale. To be getting over 10 times the amount of subs that blizz has is probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

I bought the game BECAUSE it had open pvp. I bought the game because I wanted certain features listed on the website.
The game is not crap because its open ended. I am NOT measuring this game on its implemented features. i'm measuing this game on the complete lack of promised features and the amature way the entire thing has been handled from how they handle change/patch management to how they outright lied.
Does the alignment system suck? Yes. Does the chat system, lack of background life (plants, birds, anmials) make for a crap game?: Yes . Does the chat system feel and look like it was written pre everquest? Yes......but my main point is this game deserves to fall on its ass for outright lieing to people who bought the game.
Tasos complains that people are attacking his livelyhood.....but when you put a product up on markets you have a responsibility to deliver quality......and paying customers have a right to call you out on it.

I agree with this. Its the RV disaster with a slightly higher budget. Eurotrash can't seem to release a complete game, and although the game is finished enough to massacre people and loot them, the situation generally sucks.
That having been said, I'm still patching this. If enough people put money into the game, they'll finish it. Roma Victor didn't have that - they had a one time payment with no monthly anything. That isn't the way to run a MMO that is still developing.

This topic is FAIL. It's a terrfic reason why I don't enjoy much of the MMORPG community, there's far too many people who blindly flame something they don't understand. As for my position in this, I really don't care if darkfall has a open PvP system, as it's unlikely I'll be trying the game anytime soon, like most of the people here (Even the people flaming it).

Darkfall is pretty much everything they said it would be when they did interviews in Decemeber. I bought it knowing that some of the "promised" features would be missing. I do not feel scamed, although I'll admit that DF is far from perfect and needs some more improvements fast.

You know what's kinda making me frustrated right now? The "logic" and spin that is being used to discredit people who actaully have an honest (and negative opinion) of this game. I don't normally kick something when its down but the Tasos rant along with the backlash has made me think otherwise. This is the most unprofessional whine I have ever seen from a developer. The game is crap, lots of people feel it.....he should have taken it on the chin while keeping his jaw shut. Instead he tries to detract from the short comings of his game by attacking the reviewer (who seems to be in the wrong as well). It seems now that AV is playing classical dis info by going after the reviewer instead of the points that many people know and see about this game. Let me put it to you simply. I do feel i was SCAMMED out of my money. Now I take full responsibility for this because I'm the jack ass who actaully parted with my money to buy this game (almost 70$ Canadian I might add). I waited in line as they artifically limited the sales to give the illusion of demand. I played the game as they randomly decided to take down servers with no advance warning. I sat in their piece of crap queues (which have been fixed....I will give them). I searched around the landscape looking for content to engage in other than mindless ganking......at the time I couldnt find any spawns that a> worked properly b> worked at all. I've watched this community start off large as many hoped it would be the 3d UO we all want so dam bad. I saw it weed down to the hardcores that are there. All the time a rather large group of people with social skills akin to tree slugs berate anyone who didnt talk in l33t speak and feel the same way they do. If Tasos expected the people his company ripped off to sit back idly while he discredits the Eurogamer review as complete bias then he's made a very serious mistake. EVERYTHING ABOUT HOW THIS GAME WAS ADVERTISED WAS MISLEADING. I do not typically generalize communities in games. I think its like walking into Walmart and trying to caste everyone with the same brush. Darkfall is different.....the community has a large number of idiots....a lot of them spout crap here each day. Many of them are playing Quake online or are %100 pvp ffa clan warfare. Ok, if the game was always marketed as just quake III in MMO clothes, fine, but it wasnt.....it was suposed to be a MMO. I expect part of the reason the features listed on their website (which STILL is not updated) is due to the fact they had to launch earlier than they wanted to. I don't blame them for running out of money. However, that does not change the fact that this game is a halfbaked bastardization of a mmo desinged for socio paths and FPS players. The features are misleading, the idea you can be a small fish in big world is misleading........the whole notion that this IS A mmo is misleading. The graphics are not as bad as people say but the UI is. Hint: MS DOS was replaced with a GUI for a reason. This game encompasses none of the lessons learned from 10 years of commercial mmos. They threw the baby out with the bath water and are trying to pass of tedium as hardcore.

That having been said, I'm still patching this. If enough people put money into the game, they'll finish it. Roma Victor didn't have that - they had a one time payment with no monthly anything. That isn't the way to run a MMO that is still developing.
So based on your logic, theres no such thing as bad publicity? as if the game is mentioned then it by proxy is gaining great publicity regardless of the content involved in its being mentioned?. So then by your thinking then would you consider Al Quaida somthing you would want to get involved in? as it too recieves a plethera of"advertisement" throughout the world, what about Gary Glitter, you a fan of his? because once more he recieves a lot of "advertisement" throughout the world and so on and so forth. This topic is FAIL. It's a terrfic reason why I don't enjoy much of the MMORPG community, there's far too many people who blindly flame something they don't understand. As for my position in this, I really don't care if darkfall has a open PvP system, as it's unlikely I'll be trying the game anytime soon, like most of the people here (Even the people flaming it).

Its not about the consumer losing $50, its about the company taking $50 by false advertisement.
If I get scammed out by a company after buying their game for false advertisement, I'd want my money back, not necessarly because the $50 are a big deal(they arent), but mostly because it'd feel buttraped if that company ran away with my money, and I didnt do shit about it.
That is exactly right. If someone robs you on the street of $5.00 they still go to jail. Darkfall has robbed people of $50. No they did not do it by gunpoint. They did it by false advertisement and putting a product on the market they knew was trash.

You're howling the same tune that people yelled at Red Bedlam at the Roma Victor launch. There is nothing that will be done about it, some people will feel ripped off, and the rest of us will stick with the game until we're done with it, or it dies. That's just the way it is.
Darkfall is pretty much everything they said it would be when they did interviews in Decemeber. I bought it knowing that some of the "promised" features would be missing. I do not feel scamed, although I'll admit that DF is far from perfect and needs some more improvements fast.
At least Darkfall is better than the Crap in a Box of 2008

Darkfall didn't advertise itself as anything. It didn't advertise itself at all. Only advertisement this game has ever had, was forum talk and word of mouth. It promised it will be a hardcore, full loot pvp game in which the WoW generation will be bitchslapped back to blizzards arms. And by your post it seems it delivers.
