Thinking of returning. Have some questions on what's changed.

Okay well I played the game at release and I liked it.  I got to about level 30 on a ToS and something else plus a 20 BS  But there were a couple huge problems for me.  I didn't even mind the bugs, but it was the game play problems that made me quit.

So...

Are the healers still over-powered where they can DPS just as good as non-healers?  Or is that how the game was meant to be? Or was it just the lower levels?

Has mid level content been added?  I remember after level 20 there was a lack of quests.

And finally what is the end game like?  Isn't there like city sieges and stuff?

Also, if I return I want to start my own guild with a RL friend.   Will it be tough to do since most people are high level?  Are we just better off joining one?  Are there any advantages to guilds other then keeping yourself from being ganked?

balancing is always happening. however, the healers have been brought down to size. Things are much more balanced than before.

yep. There has been more quests added and a new zone called Ymirs Pass for 65+ (I think...)

raiding, dueling in Kesh, sieges, mini games, PvP levels. In the next patch they are adding a new zone for levels 75+ that will add more of an organized open world pvp aspect. Tarantia Commons is the name. There is also RP if you are interested in it. Cimmeria and Wiccana both have good RP.

join an existing guild. At this point, most people have settled in and it will be tough trying to recruit.

Im pretty much in the same boat as you.  Ive hit level 20 and my month is up on tcos and i feel that i should wait untill the next major update to rejoin.  I feel tcos has a greater sense of depth than aoc, however tcos seems a bit slow, just the general progression and travel being slow makes it a more in depth game.  Also if your not fresh on your fps aim your going to need to practice to get really good at dodge and hitting opponents.

AoC on the other hand played a lot faster and i progressed at a speedy pace.  No doubt the game looks better, and for me it plays smoothly at near max settings.  I know what the first 20 levels are like, my question is how are the next 40+ levels compared to the first 20.

Is there a point where you hit a leveling wall, where your progressions previous pace comes to a near halt?  Is there stuff to do lateron?

Also how is the non pve mid-endgame?

I should also add that i play about 10-15 hours a week total so im not gonna rush to endgame in a week and be bored.

Im glad i missed the launch of this, because stepping in right now, i cant see what anyone would really complain about aside from not enough computer power.

You should never have any problems finding quest in your 20s, there are three zones for this level range. The only gap you'll notice now is in the mid-high 70s which should be filled with the new zone in 1.05. As far as class balance, all classes are seeing major changes in 1.05 and with the itemization revamp... some good, some bad but you won't see healers outdpsing dps classes, soldiers yes. Sieges on some pvp servers, not really enough pvp action on the pve server to mention. Raiding has two tiers which can be enough to keep some casual players occupied. There are good populations for all level ranges since the mergers and after they implimented the trial.

As far as guilds, perks are the guild city and access to crafting and if the guild has a battlekeep then you get additional pvp bonuses.

I'm actually installing and thinking of comming back myself. I heard about the new consequence system and I played on a PVPRP server so I thought it sounded fun. I'm wondering are assassin still crappy or have they been brought up. Back at launch when I played one they seemed ok till about level 30 they started sloping hard! Also any news on the new expansion and where it takes place? Oh and how are the dungeons in the game now? I'm a HUGE dungeon crawler fan and its usually my favorite aspect of the games so i was wondering how those are and how many are there currently and what level range they are? Thanks in advance. :)

Edit: account has been recovered, it was just a prob with AO/AoC account merging from a while back.

I bought this game at release and played it for about 3 months, getting 2 characters into their mid 60's. I found the game pretty fun and thought it looked great but the bugs and technical issues drove me away.

Recently, after reading about all of the changes. I was excited to give the game another shot and resubscribe. After not being logged into the game for around 8 months, I find that my full AoC account has been nuked from orbit, not even a trace of it. I still have my funcom account and AO account and info is still there as well, which I haven't had activated for 2+ years.

I do understand it says that there is no guarantee that your account will be saved after canceling, but in other games I have taken extended breaks from, 1-2 years in some cases, I have come back and find every thing saved just the way I left it, characters and all.

So all I can say is good luck if you decide to resubscribe, or take any type of extended break from AoC.

Wow...that sounds like bullshit to me. I agree everytime ive taken even 2 year break from games I come back to see everything as I left it. I mean I had a 40s Bear Shaman/30 Assassin and 40s Guardian. If I would reactiveate and it be gone because of server merge I would be rather pissed. I dont think i'll be reactivating...EQ2 is looking pretty good right now. >.>

I cancelled after my first month right at release and just reactivated to check out 1.05 on TL to compare it to live.  None of my characters were gone and only one had to be renamed.  Did you contact Funcom about your account?  I'd be curious to find out how that goes.

I was gone from AoC for awhile and came back without any issues. I would definitely contact customer support.

assassins are now about as squishy as you can be but theyre also about the most lethal single target killing machine as well, mastering the shadows is still your best asset, so you need a pc thatll run the game with shadows on to play a sin or everyone will see you coming unless its midnight on a moonless night (pitch black hiding without haveing to stand in shade) if you are walking around stealth outside of ground shadow in the day then your stealth dont work for crap in pve, not so hot in pvp either, but then in pvp you have to have your perception skill up to spot hiding people anyway.  before i stopped subbing when i was unemployed and needed to conserve my monthly fees last month i knew a couple 80 sins that raided and pvped and they were beasts all the way up as they leveled (the trade off being super high dps super squishy).  i have an 80 pom myself, heal/never run out of mana specced for raiding, basically no dps but can heal for hours non stop no pots required.  i liked my hox for dps, kinda like a sin, squishy as hell, good aoe dps.

    Leveling h

1-22 :Very easy . Also do the poitain quest etc and the town quest. You can ding 2-3 level before going into the big world starter zone.

22 to 27 : I usually start with Connall Valley . You will level very quick here.In a couple of hours you can reach level 26-27.Also don't forget to do the spider cavern . Skip the Group quest , since it's basicly mean fighting Elite.

28-34  : i go to Khospesh Province . Some npc won't show they have any quest because you're to high . Make sure you pick them.

(Level 30  don't forget to do your destiny quest)

35-38 : I go to wildland of Zeleta and do Border Range and the 2-3 instance here. After that you go to outlow tunnel (in old tarantia.

38-40 : I go back to Khospesh province and do Pyramid of the ancients.

41-46 : Go to field of the Dead. You will level very quick .

44-50 : Do tarantia Noble district and at 45+ do 1 run of the villa.

    Level 50-55 : Eiglopherian Mountain .

Level 56-65 : Ymirr pass  , Eiglopherian mountain , Villa

    Level :66 - 73

    Villa ,Instances ,Grouping,Grinding.

    74-80 Kheshatta,Villa

    --------

Okay but you might also jump and do some group instance. It's from a solo perspective.

Nothing wrong with grinding. You get  loot, money and mats.

A little update about that:  I contacted support and got my AoC account back with no problems.  It was a problem from merging my AO account and AoC account from a while back.

I think I just have bad luck when it comes to this game. I did resub though and I'm going to give it another go.

Good news that there weren't any issues in getting it back. Hope the improvements to the game find you well.
