MMORPG.com Entropia Universe Correspondent Arno Laurman writes this guide to gathering Teleporters on Planet Calypso in entropia Universe.
On Planet Calypso the most efficient way of travelling long distances is using teleporters (TP's). Teleporters are scattered throughout the map and allow instant travel between them. The bad news is that you have to manually activate them first before you can use them, the good news is that you will get to explore the continent, discover the wildlife dangers and it will only take some time, well actually quite a bit of time, but activating as many teleporters as possible as soon as possible will help you a lot when hunting in teams, getting to know the game, reaching events or simply travelling quickly to different places. It may also be one of the requirements asked of you before you can join a society. This guide will describe the most efficient route between them to avoid some of the dangers.

Cool. A guide for a game I have never heard of. We need more of these on MMORPG.com.
It's a pretty solid game. Reminds me of Ryzom meets Second Life. Its a machine hog though, uses something of the same requirements as EQ2. The cash driven economy is its biggest draw and flaw, for the obvious reasons. Plus I believe its a completely player driven economy. Solid game though if you're one of those people who like to play the merchant class in Korean games you'll do well here.
I used to play this back in 2005 when it was still called Project Entropia. I can remember running around grabbing teleports. The world felt pretty huge back then...ran for ages and ages!
EU is one of the worst games ever. Ahhh, wait, I won't even go as far and calling it a game.
Either you do not deposit money and go sweating (collecting sweat from animals) and expose yourself to a massive, incomparable and flat out mind numbing grind.......
or
You deposit not that small amounts of RL cash into a game, whose company changes core rules and item drop rates according to their own economical needs.
Either way, the one thing you will not find is fun.
If you want an advice, keep yourself as far away from EU as possible. If you go for it anyway, you were warned.
============================================================
Nobody is useless, he/she can still be used as a bad example.
Contrary to Longsnouts... critique of Entropia Universe, there is plenty of fun to be had!
Currently, there is a participant art exhibition gong on in-game at the New Oxford Instituts of Fine Arts. Over 40 colonists of Planet Calypso have put their works up for other to enjoy- at no cost.
A new streaming radio station- Atlas Haven Radio, has recently launched. Programming includes a wide array of music types, as well as a scheduled newscast and breaking news reports. Again, this is free! Atlas Haven Radio often hosts a variety of contests during special events, often with pretty nice prizes!
An exarasaur hunting contest, perfect for thise relatively new to the planet!
Many naysayers of the game simply don't understand one fundamental difference between Entropia and other MMORPGS, namely the Real Cash Economy. The in-game economy is tied to the RL one, meaning that that your cash in-game has a real world value. Because of this crucial difference, it's sheer fantasy to think a new player will become an uber PK juggernaut in 2 weeks time and not depositing any funds. It is possible to play the game without deposting, but as with anything else in life, don't expect lots for free.
Sure, gathering vibrant sweat is time consuming and can result in death. Again, expecting a free money machine is unrealistic. However, unlike some games, reviving costs nothing, and all your stuff takes the ethereal journey with you back to the revive terminal.
Also unlike many games, If you have over 1000 PED of accrued net worth on your avatar and decide to quit, you can liquidate those assets in-game, execute an in-game withdrawal, and THE COMPANY WILL SEND YOUR MONEY BACK TO YOU! YOU WON'T GET THAT IN ANY MONTHLY FEE GAME!
Other current happenings in game include:
An attack by robot forces on various locations on planet. Coded robot messages have been intercepted and decrypted by volunteers in the player community. These messages give some clues as to what the robots are up to, and where colonists militia forces can deploy to counter their attack.
An upcoming fashion show on Club NeverDie
So, there's plenty to see and do on planet!
For those of you that do try the TP run in the article, I'd strongly suggest NOT making the run alone! Check with the Official Guides (Simon and Emma, they have stars over their heads!) at the New Arrival Zone at Port Atlantis. Ask if they know of a TP run being organized. Often there are seasoned players at the NAZ, and they may assist you in a TP run to some of all of the teleporters. Be warned, it IS a long walk, so be prepared for an extended session if you're planning to add more than a few TPs to your map in any given session!
Another noteworthy destination for newcomers that isn't on the charted course presented in the article is the Port Atlantis sweat camp, located a bit Northwest of Port Atlantis. Newcomers often congregate here in order to collect vibrant sweat, distributing the risk of attack across their number instead of taking on creatures 1 on 1 and certainly invoking their ire. Healers often practice here also, patching up the damaged at no cost while raising their own skills in the healing arts.
Cheers!

Just by this little comment, i can quite accurately say that you're someone with no job or monetary value in real life to spend on an enjoyable passtime like this game. So i'm guessing you installed this game with this intention of becoming rich. First of all this game is more for adults. I've played this game too, and its very unique compared to other MMO's primarily because it has a real cash economy.
With other pay 2 play games over a period of several months you would have probably paid over $100 for subscription if not more - you never see that again. In most cases people after a while end up quiting the game so ultimately all that money and time has been a waste. With this game though i see the way the developers have thought this out - everything you do ingame, say if you killed a creature it loots items worth real money (not just ingame money which is restricted to ingame use). The way it works is that the PED, which is the currency can be freely interchanged with real life currency with its ingame withdrawal system - just like you would when you're converting money to go to another country. 10 PEDs = $1 and thats the fixed rate. So when you kill a mob it may loot low or high. Some new comers think, that after just killing 3 creatures and the loot is rubbish thats the end of the world for them. Hunting requires a run where you kill a couple of hundred mobs, usually takes about 30 mins or so. Alot of people ingame therfore hunt with the standard 200-300 PEDs worth of ammo. The more you play and the more active you are the more chance that you'll loot something big. Also you need to use your head too Keep a track of the mobs that are looting well, at which times, buy hunting gear that results in the most minimal expense to reduce losses - things like that. So alot of brain work and skill is required and thats just hunting, theres mining, crafting as well as others too.
Ultimately, don't play the came with the expectation of earning millions of dollars or profiting from the word go. In this game you're literally investing in an avatar (All skills you gain can be physically sold, items can be sold). End of the day, say in a couple of months time you can quit the game, sell everything and withdraw your cash out.
Its a unique game worth the time to actually play.

I did give EU a try and i found it to be very boring and annoying. If you like hunting i guess it would be fun. The boring part a massive world that at first you only can run around it and not have much to do. Than the annoying parts for me. First the guys makes werid random sounds i can not mute. when it says you start as a newbie you show up with only the cloths on your back and not much else. And yes you can use real money so what ? They take themself too real it is annoying. A power tripping rich persons program no poor ppl allowed sould be their motto.
You can play the game for free, and earn PEDs for free ingame too by gathering material called sweat from mobs, but obviously because you're earning money for free it does require a long time and can be tedious... Its understandable that someone who wishes to play 100% for free without sweating might dislike the game. But Entropia being an MMO which comes at mmo gaming at a different angle - well its only natural that it won't be everyone's cup of tea. Regardless though, still does deserve a tryout i'd say.
P.S to turn the sound down or mute, press O ingame, turn the sound volume down and make sure you click ok (not just cross the window out)

Me too. I still refer to it as Project Entropia.
Me too. I still refer to it as Project Entropia.
Maybe it's time to try it out again . Much has changed since 2005 and things have improved a lot. The world is still huge but a little more crowded these days and like AG already mentioned there's more to do and more to see.

I have been back since then, as I do with most every game I have played. Though currently I am preoccupied with the game of RL.
I am on and off Project Entropia aka Entropia Univers since 2005 too. This is one thing that I like about the game, you can come back whenever you fill like it or if you have some extra cash that you don't know what to do with. You buy whatever you need and off you go an play and definetely can have fun. People who talk bad about EU 99.99% of them are dissapointed because indeed they expected to become rich or at least even have a living of it. Well, bad news or good depending on your perspective, EU is not ment to be a career or a become rich becoming schema but just a way of spending time, call it a game or a virtual univers, but not fot free. It is a business and it has to survive like any other.
In the game hunting is most common activity but after getting some experience you can try different things. For newcomers can be a little more difficult especially until they get to locate all those teporters. On the other hand I remember form when beeing a noob (and I kinda still am, a seasoned noob maybe ) the most interesting thing I found was exactly exploring that huge world in the run for finding teleporters. And about that world the coolest part about EU, as I said it with other ocasions, is that the world is one fine countinuous environment where you can start from one coast and run to the opposite coast without intrerupption, exept from being killed by creatures of course but avoiding them is another fun thing. No other game that I know has that because all use some kind of teleporting or jumping technology from one place(map) to another where you will see white or black screen to get to. You can do this here as well if you want but only after you find all the teleporters you need. And while you take this exploring journey you can enjoy all kind of interesting things like landscapes, forests, trees, weird plants, rivers, lakes, mountains and last but not least fierce creatures. I personally find graphics and avatar mobility and expression among the highest in the game industry and when it will finally switch to the Cry2 engine for DirectX10 EU will have no match.
All in all EU can be fun if you drop all your preconceptions you might get from dissapointed people that haven't become rich and if you not become and adicted gambler at it yourself. It definetely is not for kids but for mature people to whom I highly recommend to give this game a shot and make their own oppinion about it.
One questions "pour le connaiseres": when they will really upgrade the game to the Cry2 engine? Initially they were talking about fall 2008 or so.
I believe the ETA is somewhere this summer. Marco stated thtat the final test phase planned for late May was right on schedule so hopefully it'll come somewhere early july.
P.s. Just my luck, my first attempt at writing a guide here and days later they announce the whole continent gets a makeover . Here's what it might look like when CE2 arrives :
Solid game? More like a huge scam. Just a money sink that very very few ever get any return from. Huge grind and you end up spending rl cash for just about everything.
Every now and then some fool posts how they made money in this game. All that is is a come on to get you involved so they can get your money.
Avoid this game unless you don't mind throwing money away for a pretty boring game to start with.

C'mon, Ozmodan, don't you just get it? If you spend big money on any game or gambling is no ones fault bu YOURS!!! The game has nothing to do with it but your weakness and lack of understanding does!
People, be realistic, you CAN"T get rich with this game and nobody is supposed to. It is not a schema or anything like that just a product that is not for free. Please have this in mind when you decide to play. If you invest in some stocks and they fall next day is it stock's fault or your poor decision??? Play the game and be SMART not DUM!!!
Ozmodan, if you are willing to do something for free be my guest but don't expect anyone to do the same. Go play WoW, for kid's sake!

The only reaon people play this game is an attempt to make money, of which about 90% of them don't. So it soundly fits in the realm of a scam. If you are too blind to see that by now, I feel sorry for you.
Do you speak for the whole community? There's plenty of reasons to play this game besides the money i think. The "Scam" argument gets thrown around alot by disgruntled (e)players/trolls but i've not seen any facts to support it . The claim that 90% of a RCE game population doesn't make money out of it does not make this a scam for obvious reasons. So, how is EU compaired to any other game/mmo a scam?
Allthough I like PE, or EU, it has one fundamental flaw.
Same one as in real life actually, the state "mindark" in this case need enough cash to run the thing and make a reasonable profit, nothing wrong with that, this aint charity after all.
But on top of that there is also a select amount of people who do make some earnings of this game, the professionals so to speak.
So, after mindark have made their profit, wich I assume is no higher or lower than any other MMO producer out there, again they are a company after all and running these things costs a lot of money, the professionals as well is making their profit.
And this is actual real life hard earned cash we are talking about.
Summed up, by far Entropia is the most expensive MMO on the market in "bang for buck".
Much like any gambling you WILL lose to the house in almost any circumstance.
Still, not a bad game at all, the skill system alone is kind of worth it.

Thats the point, you're not suppose to go in to the game expecting to become rich. If you want to make money go get a job. This game is purely for entertainment and the fact that you loot real money in this game just adds a little spice to it - Its as simple as that. Playing this game expecting to make money is like going into work on your first day and demanding upfront cash from your boss.
Also, its not the only reason why people play - its a minority who enter the game with this thought. I can tell you because i used to spend alot of time in the area where the new players arrive, sometimes 3-4 hours there. I used to literally welcome and chat with every new comer. A majority of them actually had never heard of the game before and just checking it out, or felt this game sounded fun. On average 2 out of 10 people said they'd joined the game expecting to make profit from the game. I can see, you fall in to that minority, Ozmodan.
Lets look at the factors which people like you expect to see in Entropia:
1> Get paid for installing the game
2>Deposit nothing (considering that most people in the 'minority' are unemployed and on welfare - not saying you are but..... sort it out)
3>Loot $50,000 on the first thing you kill
4>Withdraw cash out of game from playing free or $10 (for the more adventurous individuals in the 'minority')
5>Achieve points 1-4 in the space of 1 hour...
I mean, if you think any of these which i know 20% of new comers do, then you seriously need to sort your real life out first.

Valid points, Renton81!
And having a gambling taste actually makes it more interesting then other MMOs but if you don't win really doesn't makes it at all a scam. Is Lotto a scam or the Roulette game? Why I don't hear people whining about them?
But if I compare this game to, let's say EVE Online, loosing a ship there is much more painful than anything I ever did in EU even though I didn't loose real money but a lot of time for sure. In EU I am just having fun exploring and hunting and I am among the ones that pay the least for the amount of time played. When I want to play just throw 10 bucks in and off I go...
So, as a conclusion, EU is not a casino or a scam but just a lucratrive enterprise in a form of a game or virtual universe if you will.

Sorry, but you just don't throw 10 bucks into this game, that will last about a couple hours. Trying to put a good spin on this game is taking the ludicrous to the extreme.
The only people who post positively about this game are those that want to lure others into the scam.

See, now you nailed it, Ozmodan! That's the difference between you and me in regards with EU approach.
I thow in 10 bucks now and then and I enjoy socializing with people and going for some hunt NEVER having in ming hitting the jackpot. And this is more than enough for days or weeks, not just couple of hours, because the loot still comes in even though not much and I can buy more amunition. I am hunting using a common Opalo rifle and not cannons. I call the game entertaintment.
You on the other hand probably through in lots of money for high end expensive equipment, guns and amunition hoping that you will hit the jackpot but you haven't, at least not yet. You call the game a scam. Hitting the jackpot probably would transform you into the first advocate for the game. Good luck!
