I just quit EQ, and am now looking for a game where many, many people play. One of the reasons why I liked Everquest, was because of the community, but only before all of the expansions came out. I'm sure the EQ coummunity is still pretty large, but with so many zones, it doesnt show. I like fantasy MMORPGs, around 10 bucks a month is fine, and 3-d first person would be the best for me. Any ideas on a popular, but good fantasy MMORPG?
thanks

Well...it's hard to decide. With the number of mmorpgs on the market the population of people who play them is very spread out. For community? I would think AC, but then again I played that game for 3 years and now its all buff bots and cheap stuff. Try DAoC? If you're an everquest person, I wouldn't know if you'd like it. I only tried the free trialfor 1 day at a friends. Another good one? I think EVE. I tried their trial, and it was fun, but it got a little tedious without a corporation until I joined one. I heard corporations are very fun, but I wish there were more competition between them. The one I'm currently on is Puzzle Pirates...which is surprisingly good! The community is pretty fun, but doing puzzles all the time gets a little tedious.
In closing I think it's all up to you...really.
hmmm....hows the EQ2 and WoW Community working out? how popular are the zones and city ares and such? looking at those two too...

WoW had 200K sign-ed up in one day. The community in WoW is strong and if anybody say their are filled with kiddies, they haven't played the game. I haven't come across a single immature player.
how bout EQ2? not nearly as much as WoW?
EQII probably has around 200,000 accounts. FFXI maybe has more.

I think I may try WoW, since its 'casual gamer friendly,' or so I hear. I hope I dont buy it, then play it and regret that I bought it. Although EQ was for me, I just dont think EQ2 would be for me...
Im also looking for a new game.. Ive heard too many bad things abt EQ, I absolutely dreaded the lvl grind in L2, n FFXI is full of botters who sell in-game money (Im abt to cancel my sub for that, as soon as I find smth to replace it).
Ive seen WoW vids, n they look *REALLY* cartoony.. I donno if Id like that. :S I like playing in an alternate reality
what sort of things you looking in a game manday? I think you and I may have the same sort of taste, somewhat...
WoW is a great game, I've gone through the CB, was really fun. Unfortunately I'm in Europe now, so we have to wait here til the official release to be able to play . EQ2 is the game I'm playing now, and it looks good. My character is still level 13 but even this was fun and... quite tough. WoW is much easier so if you don't want to shout around that you don't have time to be able to level up and play, stick to WoW. I'm more powerplayer-type so EQ2 is fine for me, even IMO WoW is kinda more interesting... I'm still not decided which one, most probably both, EQ2 for PVE, WoW for PvP
Big populations games at the moment are FFXI, WoW, EQ2 and DAoC that i know for sure. In that order, not sure about EQ2 being already bigger than DaoC but i think it goes damn well near.
FFXI has still the bigger population but keep in account that there are no divided Japan/english server, so a good 60% of those million if not more are japanese people, and many of them do not speak english. Plus is the slower grind of them all and it absolutly requires a group after the first 10 levels. Oh! Yeah! Also there are PS2 players in the middle of them, nothing against them (i own a PS2 myself!) but i tell just so you know.
WoW is going so great that the servers are so full you need to do queue to play on the older ones (older of 1 day, mind you!!!) Community will be strong in that one, might even be stronger than FFXI one day. Hell of a game as well. Kepp in mind, tough, that you will have problems to play WoW for the next few days probably as the sheer tide of people will keep the server busy for a while, also it might be a problem finding the game in the shops right now.
EQ2 is surprisingly good and has a good amount of community with many servers going full every day and the others filling up, it is less than WoW but surely a good number, especially the two RP servers. Sadly they are also quite heavy load, so it might be impossible for you to join them. Surely they will open up a third if the demand stays this high.
DAoC Community do not have many flaws, the game is rock stable now, after his third expansion (4 counting the free one). Your only problem you would have is to find enough people in the low level area, but then there will be loads of alts around so i do not think it would be a problem.
In the end i will probably pick WoW over EQ2, but i was pleasantly surprised by the latter as i had 0 expectations from it and picked it up just because here WoW will not come for the next 2 months.

Well with games like L2 n FFXI, it's like a chore to make money or lvl or... *anything*... Hell, I might as well be doing wat the majority of the population of these games is doing, n start selling in-game currency to support myself -.-
But anyways, I cant really say any games that Ive *TOTALLY* enjoyed, cuz they all turn out like that eventually. The best game Ive played (for lvling, finding gd equips, lvling skills) was Runescape. But, unfortunately, that game has horrible gfx, so it annoys me -.-
Perfect game for me.. Would have nice looking chars, customizable faceshairetc (cuz for some reason, thats important x.X), NOT cartoony gfx, storyline that Im actually interested in, n crafting. But not hard crafting, like it costs you a life's in-game savings to be able to make profit off it (ahem FFXI)... N either quests that arent too hard, or you don have to do quests to be able to do basic things. Faster combat is nice too. N I always play archer or a mage type (preferably archer), so that would be nice also
EDIT: Thought of some more things, like... I like games that its not impossible to solo lvl, but if you decide to party, its EASY to do so, like not waiting 5 hrs for a party. Also, games where its IMPOSSIBLE to snipe a mob becuz theyre all faster than you, well, that jus BLOWS! *sighz*
If anyone knos a game that has these kind of features, plz, plz, plzzz let me kno x.x;
Yes it is true....the biggest community (and surprisingly helpful and friendly and mature...err sometimes mature.) is going to be World of Warcraft for you.
Every server is overflowing with people. They released with 47 servers and had to bring that total up to 88 servers just barely due to the demand of people accessing the game. Can us say WOAH!!
Hope this helps.

I think I'm going to try out WoW. Hope its just as good as Im hoping it to be.
Question --
Population of DAoC > EQ? currently, going to be in the future?
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
the problem with other games is they have many servers. and if subscriptions go up, they add new servers - meaning only 2,000-5,000 people end up playing on each server. If you want a game that is truly massively, try eve or wait for wish.
