through reading about everquest 2 i found out that there were only 2 starting cities in the whole game but i was curious to know whether there are still other cities besides the two starting ones also i wanted to know if the world of norrath still feels as large as it used to in the first everquest? would be nice if someone gave me some details about the game because website reviews talk too much about their own experiance rather than about the game itself.

I've only been in Qeynos but the city is very big. There are several villages that are connected either through gates or via the bell system. From those villages(7 or 8 total I believe) you can access low level hunting zones. Each zone connects to two villages. These zones are of decent size as well, you can't get lost but the hunting zones, more versions are made depending how crowded it gets. I wish this was done for the villages as well though. Then you have Qeynos Harbor, South Qeynos and North Qeynos. Each are decent in size but haven't spent a lot of time in the Harbor of South Qeynos(I hate this zone since I lag the most in it, no matter what my settings are). It sucks cause you have to pass through it to get to North Qeynos unless you are coming in from the Eldder village but to get to that, for me means making a longer trip since you have to go through the halfling zone to get to Eldder since you can only get to it from that way or from North Qeynos. Those are just the cities which is where I spent most of my time when I first started playing.
Antonica is huge, to big at times I feel. A good example of looking at the size(if you've played Everquest 1) I guess would be to take all of the Karana zones and make it one large zone. Which is basicly what you are doing anyway. Since that area is the Qeynos Hills area and part of the Karana Plains combined from the original Everquest just that it really looks different. It does seem like a good size.
Depends on how you compare EQ2's Norrath with EQ1's Norrath. If you were to do EQ1, as the world is setup in EQ2's graphics I feel it would be a LOT larger, at least if you take Antonica by itself. Much of the world was destroyed in EQ2, making it in to huge islands. Antonica is really one huge zone but lots of areas that you find as you travel around it, the names of the regions tend to change as you travel. Not the same as zones though since you could most likely do that in EQ1, just name different areas of each zone. All in all I'd say the would could be bigger. I believe there are villages outside of the cities but haven't gone that far yet. The map while in Antonica only shows half when you are on the Qeynos city side, you have to go the end of it(right) for the other half to show. I found this out while flying around on the Griffon(really should be more stations I feel (at least one in the middle of the zone). It actually loaded faster for me then some city zones. Its really wide and open so I guess there is just less data. There are guard stations in the area but those are close to the city.
As of right now there isn't any word what happen to Kunark, Velious, or Faydwer and Odus(both of which were apart of the original EQ1's world). But if you just go by looks alone, EQ2 seems larger but haven't been on the other islands yet.

If you are worried about places to see and things to do , then stop worrying. Unless you paly 18 hours a day it will take several months to see it all. By the time you finish it then SOE will be hitting you up for a expansion which should last you another 6 months to a year.
I never played EQI past the initial 30 days ( hated that game ) but I do know it took 5 years and god knows how many expansions for it to get to the size it was.

That is true but it started off pretty big. Antonica, Odus, and Faydwer were the game world at release.

That has a list of the zones and maps of them. EQ1 started with 47(included the Qeynos Catacombs) hunting zones and 14 cities/starting areas(that could be hunted in(though the wood elf city is actually in the middle of one of the hunting zones). Over the years more landmasses were added but the only extra zones that were added to the original lands would be Jaggedpine Forest, Stonebrunt Mountains, The Warrens, and The Hole I believe. Not really sure if that was there at the start or added when Kunark came out. Number wise EQ1 is massive and had a huge number when it released and it was a lot harder to get around then as well so it took people a while. The expansions really made things even bigger but wanted to correct that they aren't the only reason why the world was/is so big.

Yeah, like the first reply said above, all the cities have the starting cities arranged around them. Each race shares a zone with another race. I started in Freeport and it is indeed huge. The only thing I didnt like was that I think they overdid the evilness of Freeport a bit much. Every merchant insults you, and in Qeynos it is a different problem, every merchant lost their ledger... ahh youll get it if you buy it.
Antonica is huge, the Commonlands are huge, and there are still more continents to explore.
For Antonica and Commonlands they put in a travel system of griffins, you go up a tower, and you can choose from two other towers, you are then taken on quite a nice ride, first person or third person to the destination, its not just a boring instant transportation, you actually ride on the griffin, around mountain passes, under bridges, past gnoll camps.
Thanks alot for the replies, im definately going to buy everquest 2, rather than world of Warcraft
