I love EQ2, it's not perfect and I never played the first one, and even though I used to be a nay-sayer, I decided to try it... and loved it.
But my system was not totally up to snuff, and it felt like I was cheating my-self from getting the total experience. The lag was killing me, and being able to keep the graphics settings to high-performance, just plain sucked. It is awesome though, and I know how cool it will be once I am able to get a more powerful machine, which will be a long time.
So in the mean time I've jumped on to WoW, and it is a really fun game. I'm a level 9 elven druid right now, I'm very impressed with how well it runs on my system, I've got everything on max and it runs like butter!
The game is just plain fun, the quests are AWESOME! They had some issues the first few days, and are still working out some of the bugs, but it is a really easy game to get into, and like. I'll add more info, as I progress. My only gripe is the controls and communication system in the game. The EQ2 controls were perfect, and the chat bubble should be a standard, the whole chat and and control system of EQ2 should become the standard.
Graphics are beautiful, both games are stunning, but I can't totaly comment on EQ2's just can't I haven't seen them at max.

Hmmm EQ2 should have ran fine at maximum peformance for you Did you do the update thing for all the drivers including your motherboard and bios?
Since you now own both games , you should be able to enjoy both You might want to run a registry cleaner to.
I wish it were that easy, and I'd heard of other people with very similar specs telling me the same thing, but I don't think that's the case. I need a better processor/GPU/and even more RAM, to get that game running with little to no lag. In balanced mode I was getting 15-25FPS.
I tried all of the updates, drivers etc... Nothing. I noticed that my RAM was only being used up to 50-75%, but my processor was being taxed... 79-100%!!
I think my GPU needs to be bigger and better for EQ2. That's why everything is running (knocks on wood) beautifully on WoW.
I must admit, I miss EQ2 a little, but it was unplayable in my opinion.
Funny, I have a FAR slower system than yours running it with no lag (AMD XP 1800+, 1024mb pc2700, nVidia Ti 4200 128mb, Cable connection) so I have to agree with all the people telling you that you should be getting better performance out of that system than you're getting. Something isn't optimized, prolly a driver issue somewhere.

While this should have gone in the EQ2 section i have to agree with others.
Read my post somewhere about trials i performed with 2 different systems and swapping cards between them.
Basically you have 2 problems
a)you will not be satified unless you play in highest setting(well if this is the case then don't even buy a system till next year's video cards come out and splash big on the best)
b)you have issues with your computer and drivers.Check your drivers and check you don't have a failed RAM stick.
But otherwise your system should have no trouble running at balanced lag free at all.
But definately EQ2 engine requires alot more power than the WoW engine graphics wise. Even a monkey can tell this hehe.
I get 40-60 fps in WoW and 15-20 FPS in EQ2 (or did).
Im running Geforce TI 4400 Too so its most likely my old graphics card. As this guy said running EQ2 at medium settings was a little bit of a killer for me too .
Either way ill try EQ2 in a years time again when i get a new gfx card and mobo.

I think Sony have made one of their biggest mistakes ever by over-reaching the boundaries of current technology with EQ2's graphics. And that's saying something considering that they hardly ever do anything right.
I'm sure their theory was that if the original Everquest had been designed with better graphics, more people would be playing it 5 years after launch. I think they hoped this would apply if they made EQ2's graphics run well on future computers but since the game looks so awful on current technology due to the awful basic design and sloppy coding, and MMO's with better graphics are already being designed and will be designed in the near future, they've really shot themselves in the foot, especially when you consider that the game just does not have the fun element required to keep a lot of people playing for a long time.
Everquest 2 will go down as one of the most disastrous business maneouvres in the history of computer gaming.
Aye, I guess that's why so many people love it and think it's the best thing since's sliced bread.
Yes many people do love it, but i think he is talking stastically wise.
Anyone who says that EQ2 has more subscribers than WoW is well wrong.
Relative wise it has fewer subscribers than IT COULD HAVE.
I think that was his point. I know it has about 100k subscribers but WoW America has 250-300k within a week. And thats not forgetting the European,Korean,Asian releases.
I think that was his point. Its EQ2 for god sake, its the sequel to the game which set all this mmorpg lark going of course its gonna get quite a few people going, just for completeness.
I think he is saying it could have had a lot more if its graphics where slightly more PC-friendly.

Well not gonna be drawn into a WoW vs EQ2 .
But the numbers i see of 100k people are throwing around is the pre order numbers. In beta moorgard said he expects an EQ2 server to hold at 9-10k people before filling up.Now considering at prime time last night 8 of the 24 servers were filled and another 9 were on heavy load that means more then 100-150k accounts were logged in at same time. This of course is not even the number of people in total just logged in.
Also since we can't see the german and french servers(which people are moaning are constatly full thus they opened new ones to share the load).
Now everyone is saying how popluar EQ2 is because of EQ.But outside of the mmorpg circuit how popular is it?Not at all.Go ask any gamer which he knows more warcraft or everquest and you will get your answer as warcraft.Heck i knew of warcraft myself even before EQ.
Warcraft is a big name amongst RTS,RPG and mmorpg crowd.Eq is only famous in mmorpg circuits.
While not trying to touch on the gameplay, community or graphics(that topic been beaten to death and has lost all unbiased meaning) WoW has 2 advantages over EQ2-
1)PvP.No matter what a game that has PvE and PvP will attract both kinds.A game which has only one aspect will attract only one kind.
2)System specs.EQ2 whether right or wrongly has made the mainstream cards unplayable .The most used graphics card is the MX series which can be 3 or 4.This card cannot play EQ2 at all .This eliminates a lot of people.
So i am sure WoW has and will outsell EQ2(posted this 3 months ago where i predicted WoW will outsell EQ2 not because its a better game but for factors i listed even got flamed by EQ2 fanbois).
But 100k subscribers i am almost certain is far short of true for EQ2.If i was to take a bold guess from what i see from the server loads i say a good 200k-250k .And i think WoW will be reaching close to 350k mark myself.
