Traveling thing is exactly how BG1 and 2 were done and I loved them still. No big deal there. But in my dream MMORPG, traveling is a lot of the fun. Most adventure/fantasy things are about traveling and what occurs along the way. But like I said, it wont bother me. I never even thought about it while playing BGs.

Those of you who said that your GM's just said that you left town, okay now you're at the dungeon I feel sorry for you. When I played we knew half the adventrue was getting to whereever it was we wanted to go. This is when we'd get all the side quests.
Those of you saying they are making the focus on Role-Playing by taking out crafting: HUH?!? Taking out something that you have to interact with other people is somehow limiting RP'ing? The only thing left will be combat, that's it. CIty of Heroes anyone? I mean you tell me which one would better promote Role-Playing: Crafting, where you have to talk to other people to sell your wares, maybe even talk to them to find out where to get the resources, or Combat where no interaction is required. You can take solo misisons.
The people who say they've never sat around and crafted have obviously never played a Wizard or Cleric.. Large XP requirement? Oh yeah it takes a whopping 15 XP to make a Magic Missile Scroll. Look out how will I ever recover from that drain?
Also not all the PHB races will be in the game, they are leaving out the Gnome. Not a great loss granted, I don't know anyone who actually played a Gnome, just an FYI.
I'm really not liking the way the this game is going. They say they are concentrating on Combat and making that fun. They have left out everything else. This won't be an EQ clone it will be a City of Heroes clone.
P.S. More reasons I don't like the way this is going: They created Eberron specifically for this game, which I'm a little disappointed in, I prefer lower magic games, but okay you can't please everyone, and there are some good things about Eberron, but then they go and take out most of the races that make Eberron unique, and the one new Class, and the really interesting part were the Orc Druid Gatekeepers, but druids aren't going to be in the game either. They leave the Warforged in, but take out the class that can heal them (Artificers).
While I am let down about the lack of monks, I believe that wizards, atari, & turbine will come through in the end. Most decent MMRPG's do. Take SWG for example. I played that for about 8 months straight from dec '03. Lost my connection and money to afford it, but in that time however, from constant attacks from the forums things have started to change. I feel that they are smart to take it a little bit at a time. I would hate to see D&D online start out as rough as SWG has, and still is. Both games will come out on top in the end. Anyway, the lack of crafting does not really bother me, since I prefer to have a fighting class, however, with no monk I will probally be reduced to a meer fighter or something for the first bit. I would not get to scared fellow mages and business persons, I'm sure you will get your time as well. I always remember playing PnP, with one of my friends that all he ever did was run a business. That was it. He sold animals, basics, weapons, potions etc. And the dm did well at making him work for it.
what no crafting.... forget this game, it now boring and be plain hack and slash..... just nothing but clicking and wait..... BORE METER: 7.5= bad.....
unless it got mining and other stuff for making weapons or making items or something.... then it be good!
I am glad crafting will not be in the game. I really dislike everyone standing around where the crafting can be done. The devs are concentrating on making a great core game is why druids and monks are not in at the start. The devs are working on everything they can. They plan on having druids and monks in the game. The devs have stated that instead of doing everything that they want the core game to be well done. I like that idea. I want the game to be like the paper game. That is what I am hoping for. Crafting is not what I need for that to happen.
crafting being in or out won't make or break a game for me, but I do get bored of just combat being the only option to pass time in a mmorpg.
That said I am merely interested in DDO because of the twitch style combat. That in of itself is pretty unique and if it is done right might be enough to keep me playing. If it had other options though it would keep me around much longer.
i mainly agree with Djin int he fact of i hope they stick to 3.0 rules ebcause most of the 3.5 are a load of bull, but i think crfating should be available because it is based off odd things unlike mass producing of other games

3.5 Rules and the Eberron campaign setting are both official. The Eberron campaign setting means I will not be playing it, maybe it were Dragonlance, DarkSun, Greyhawk, or Forgotten Realms (by the way those were listed from most likely to get me to play to least likely), but I never have been interested in the new setting.

i wish they would implement crafting as soon as possible after the release of the game. simply because if they ARE gonna give us crafting, i don't want to spend the three months prior working my ass off to get a +1 sword only to have it become obsolete when people are able to craft one in less than a day.
regardless, i think crafting is a good thing... it makes the game more immersive and overall a better community feel.
Well I guess that kills my Monk/Cleric I was planning on......how I long to do an unarmed attack with an inflict serious wounds attached to it........it's a tradgedy !!!

Hard to believe they wont have crafting. What a let down.

I am excited to see how it comes down.
POINTLESS JOGGING? Thats what makes DaD games so much fun!
im afraid that D&D online will become yet an other kind of CoH with nothing to do but hack and slash

it will be based of the 3.5 rules.
