Metaplace Goes into Open beta

MrbloodworthMrbloodworth Member Posts: 5,615

Metaplace is now officially in open beta.

This means that the NDA is lifted. Please feel free to blog, write, tweet, or post pictures of or about Metaplace.

Users no longer need keys to get into the site. You can simply go to http://www.metaplace.com to register.

I have been working with a friend to use metaplace as another way to promote his artwork. The intent is to embed it on his site and other outlets.

You can see it here.

It is a MMO. MMORPG, not so much. But you can make one if you wish.

Hmm this seem very oddly like Habbo Hotel.  I think I might try it for the user generated content ingame market.  Hmm....  What do you guys think?

Hey this is actually pretty damn cool.  It has built in capabilities to access 3D files from the googe 3D archive and render them into your "world".  There are a lot of minigames which you can implement or make your own with scripting.  If you want, you can just build you place up with built in assets, or make new assets yourself, or get new assets from across the web.

Its a fun community building game :)

And yes the load times are a drag, but whatever.

Out of interest I decided to give this MMO a whirl, and I can't say it blew my skirts up, but it certainly didn't drive me away either.  If anything it has the potential of providing a distraction to the burnt out gamers of the world.  The heavens know there are some of us who can use a few more of those, especially those with a low level of outside stress.

It is geared towards the very young and all the tools are old tech so nothing that would interest myself.Yes as someone mentioned,i think the Habba Hotel idea has spawned many developers to go for the same idea.Low tech so low cost to maintain and run,and yet it will attract qite a few people, albeit most of the very yound crowd.
