Should I turn it on or off, for both XP and Vista please, thank you.

Most people would probably say off because that would be like a program always running in the background. I have auto updates on though. If I didn't I would never remember to check for updates.

I keep my auto updates turned off. I prefer to manually do them so I can choose what I want. There are some updates that are usleless to me such as the search 4.0. If I had auto update on that would get installed. Bah,

But if your not sure what updates you need or don't need then I would suggest turning it on. But that is just my opinion.

Depends.  Do you normally check for updates on your own?  If so, you can turn it off.  I just leave mine on anymore.  I know some are paranoid about Microsoft spying on them and such, lol.  If that was the case I don't think they would tie it into something that can be disabled so easily.

Eh, personal preference really - I turn it off on mine and run windows update myself cuz I don't like my computer doing stuff on its own.. (not a privacy thing, just a bandwidth/processing time thing)

For gamers that are computer literate but not necessarily enthusiasts I like 'check for updates but let me choose' that way it doesn't ever get in the way but they still see there are updates, I only set it to install automatically for people that can't be counted on to run windows update themselves even when something keeps popping up telling them to :)
