even though i disagree with almost everything you said, unlike the majority of haters, at least you tried it, although it was clear from your first post about your experiences you went into the game *expecting* to hate it.
There is a big difference between hating something and not just liking it. I dont get where you get this "either you love or hate the game" from, the world doesn't work like that.
I don't think the OP would have wasted 2 months on a game he expected to hate, only a complete moron would do that and the OP doesnt sounds like one.
He played the game and didn't thought it was good enough to continue play. End of story.
I get the feeling you want people to hate your game????
Overall the game felt a lot like a persistant world version of Team Fortress.
I can't believe you say that like its a bad thing! lol

Hmm does anybody pay you for playing DFO for 2 months if you hate it so much?
You're assuming I started disliking the game early in.
If I played for two months, why would you think that the magority of that game time was played while disliking it.
Maybe it was this:
"Darkfall started, for me, with a weeks worth of frustration and annoyance, and I hadn't even purchased an account yet."
heh. if i trolled as often as many, including the OP, while actually fishing without catching anything, other than satisfying my own personal distaste for something I'm so discouraged by, i would have died from boredom by now.

But, and this is a big but for me.
It's not just that the game doesn't justify the monthly fee,
The company beind the game doesn't DESERVE the money.
I just read to the second page since I really don't have the time to read that much. Anyhow, having not played Darkfall but many other MMOs, I've retired from playing paid MMOs. I consider all of them merely a time sink. I consider single player RPG games have more depth any any MMO. Any game where you have to spend X number of hours to get to the peek of the fun that the game offers must have a relatively low number. It seems that there exists a group of people (perhaps older?) that require that number to be much lower to warrent it worth playing while paying a monthly fee. MMOs generally have a high number in the order of days, weeks, months, while most single player games have a lower number in the order of hours.
Fariic found that the threshold was reach for him, but pushed further, giving the game a chance perhaps more than what was warrented. However in the end, he found that threshold was reached and theorized that the game will not be able to change enough for him to ever enjoy it. I think the overall problem in this thread was that Fariic declared the game to be unfit and forever unfit for all people, or for a vast majority of people. Any kind of global negatively-toned message will always cause some people to feel that they are being attacked and they will often respond, perhaps inappropriately, with answer that is negatvively-toned that further enflames the original author.

kshahdoo and journey01 -- when did both of you purchase your accounts (what date?) and how easy and quick was it for you to do so? did you get it the very first time you looked and decided you would purchase the game? did you play the account lottery? did someone buy it for you? i'm curious as to why neither of you had any frustration or annoyance in purchasing an account...
I purchased mine a few days before the game launch. So I've been playing it for 3 months now (add beta time). And gonna play more...
ok now WOW: it takes a minimum of 45 x 24 hours non-stop playing to get to max level. then you have to grind factions/instances to unlock instances. then you have to grind instance runs with idiots for pre-raid gear. then you have to grind raids to progress through scripted raid bosses in the specified progression order. all the time following the exact same sequences of levelling, faction-grinding, instance-grinding, and raid-grinding that every single other player has done. in DF, you can be raiding cities, sailing ships, and doing high-end PVE content within hours of creating a new character. sure you need a clan that will take you along for this stuff but none of this is possible in WOW, or in any other level-based MMO.
You know, it's possible to get to max level in WoW within 5x24, and even new people do it in like 6-8x24.
Also, sure you can do "high-end PvE" in Darkfall within hours of creating a new character, because the bosses aren't even scripted to do anything. They're all just tank and spank.
And yes, it actually is very possible to bring 1 freshly dinged player into any raid instance in WoW, as long as the 9 or 24 others can carry him/her.

Added to it, WoW provides a lot of complementary activities to do while you level. Quests if you like, you can also harvest, craft, fish cook, things that adds up at the end to a complete character, a hunter who can bandage himself and cook food to reduce down time, a mage who can make cloths and sell leg enchants and so on.
In 5-6 days of wow, you get to max levels without afk macroing. In DF you have to go afk for a few days before you can play. So 5-6 days of playing in WoW before you get to the end tier, for DF its 5-6 days of afking (apart from changing macros) before you walk out of your of clan town and pvp. Much the same.
Yeah in DF you can go out and pvp with a fresh character. Its a zerg fest and random LMBfest, anyone can hit or miss, so the more newbies the more chance you can hit, enemies or friendly fire.

You can have full epic gear within the first 10 days, after having dinged 80 without any problems at all. The grind is way bigger in Darkfall, trust me.

I know, I levelled a toon to 65 just to max a craft, and did it between raids and during idle minutes every few days. Did not even notice it went to 65. As for epic gear, as I have maxed crafter of every kind, and lots of idle badges, I can fit out half 7.0 and 1 7.5 (bracer) right upon 80 ding.
DF is evidently a grind, just like levellling skills in morrowwinds. Run against a wall for 5 hours, maxed stamina or agility or what. Swimming against the wall for 1 day with fishbone earring (no drowning) in EQ and you maxed swimming. I have been thru all that, and sometimes I wonder, am I playing the game or it playing me?
I rather go thru those so called themeparks, well thought out ones, with lots of variety, and mix-max my alts to create my own gaming team. At least I got variety and different alts for different purposes. In those "skill" based games, everyone macroed to the end, and emerge the same super clone with same maxed "skills".
In games with limits to skills, people will interact and trade or complement each other, or as in my case, each alt complements each other. Meaningful economy (except me, as I mainly sell and occasionally buy mats I m too lazy to collect). In a game in which one can be everything maxed, there is no trade, just endless grind to the end, various branches and endless afk macroing one skill after another. With backstab and other dangers in trade, there is even less incentive to produce and sell. No market, no motivation to sell. So much for a MULTI-player game.
U gave it two months and didn't like. A determination everyone has to make. 2 months in, and I'm still enjoying it (Not the best game ever, not the worst). why ppl can't just let ppl enjoy or not enjoy is beyond me.
If we all liked the exact same thing, it would be a pretty boring world. enjoy whatever floats your boat and devil take the hindmost
Who is stopping you from playing the game, how dare him. He point a gun at you or unplug your PC?
Who wakes you from your game and drag you to come here and talk? Must be some nasty neighbors. Or are you idle afk macroing?
Everyone plays his own games, and come here to chat and argue, for the sake of some fresh air or ideas. I do not come here bringing a gun to force your game choice, nor do I fear anything brainwashing me and stopping me from going back later and pick a game they disapprove.

In wow there are right now plenty of ways concerning how to get good gear:
1. Battlegrounds: By playing one of the bgs u are awarded x amount of honor points , after playing a number of them u can go and buy 1 good epiq item. If u play more u can get more items.
2. Normal and Heoic instances/dungeons
3.Reputation vendors : By playing instances in heroic mode and or doing quests in the wilds u can raise your rep to various factions with many many items u may like to get
4. Crafting : There are many items more than decent u can aquire throught crafting or just buy from other crafters.
5.Arenas : The ultimate purpose in my opinion and only reason that wow still exists. You can get some of the very best items in the game without needing to play any raids at all/
6.Raiding: The pveiers food... When u get good items to equip your character with any combination /way from all the above ways i mentioned u can participate to raids without being last in dps or crap in healing.
All in all blizzard made for the player various ways to get geared up without needing loads of farming or whatever else ppl usually get bored..
Now does wow needs to invest time? Ofc but isnt that the point? I wouldnt want to play a game that doesnt make me to stick on it.
The only problem is the fun factor.. Wow has changed only those things that allowing it to be better than the rest mmorpgs out there without caring though to truly refresh the interest of vetran wow players... and u know why?
Because the antagonism out there is sadly a crap. Aoc ,LOTRO, WARHAMMER ONLINE, DDO,DF
I my self was hoping in DF to find something better than wow in sandbox terms ofc but i DIDNT EVEN GOT the chance to buy it...
For me and many many other players DF is like being in a pre-beta or beta test phase since i dont have the opportynity to buy it.
As the german chick in the HITLER funny DF video was saying.... Dont worry we still have WOW...
End of story goodbye the end..

Classic! If he only play a couple of days, or a week, then he hasn't played long enough to be entitled of an opinion. If he plays for two months then he is being badgered for playing too long in a game that he doesn't like.

You fanbots sure are pathetic.
To the OP: Great review!
Well said I was going to say something similar myself but I will give you kudos for beating me to the punch.
The only review for Darkfall must be positve. I'll help you out.
A++ would try again.
And, as usual, if you don't the game, then there's obviously something wrong with you. Darkfall is complete and ready for launch, and is more complete then any game even one month after release. So.. clearly you are in the wrong.
I played DF from early closed beta. I bought DF when they originally allowed beta testers to get their copies first. I even play the game up until last week. Let me say this. They released a totally unfinished product. Not even 50% of the things promised made it into the game. I've followed this game, been on their boards, and hoped for it to be the best since 2004. And once getting into beta I even said "alright, it's just beta and they've said they're still adding things." They even delayed release a number of times in 08 and even 09 to give themselves more time. Then they released the game. Nothing changed from closed beta to what I would call and "Pay to play open beta." The game mechanics and practically the whole game has been changed in the 2 or so months it's been out. They weren't ready by any stretch of the imagination. This was the single worst launch in MMO history, end of story. The only thing this game was good for was me selling my account for 4X what I paid for it since no one else in the world could get one.
Here's a couple games for you: Dark and Light, Roma Victor, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard. And believe me, i could list many more.
If you truly believe this is the single worst launch in MMO history, how do you expect any of us to take anything you say seriously?
Farlic, good review and i actually agree with some of your points, although not most, and i am very much still enjoying the game.
But a serious question, if Darkfall is such a bad game as you say and you hate it that much, then why would you still play if the sub was half the cost? (Sorry if i missed it, only had time to scan the thread.)

I might be jumping the gun on this one but i guess for the same reason that certain members of this forum have declared in the past that they would pay x2 the amount of money for Darkfall if the company had asked them to, because they thought that Darkfall's worth was that much. So it's my guess that this is the same reason the OP said the above but again that's only a guess on my behalf.

Thanks Captain Obvious, but you're missing the point. Yes, he thinks it's worth half the sub to play it or he wouldn't have said that.
My question is why does he think it's worth that much to play when, in his words, it's the worst game he's ever played? From the way he's described the game in this thread i couldn't imagine him paying anything to play it. If i hated a game as much as he hates this one...hell AV would have to pay me $15/month to play the thing and that still probably wouldn't be enough. Just curious why he would still play "the worst game he's every played" at $7 or $8/month...what does he find enjoyable about the game to pay that amount every month for it despite the many flaws he's pointed out and design aspects of the game that he doesn't like?

kshahdoo and journey01 -- when did both of you purchase your accounts (what date?) and how easy and quick was it for you to do so? did you get it the very first time you looked and decided you would purchase the game? did you play the account lottery? did someone buy it for you?
i'm curious as to why neither of you had any frustration or annoyance in purchasing an account...
I purchased mine a few days before the game launch. So I've been playing it for 3 months now (add beta time). And gonna play more...

But WoW takes a lot more grinding to be on par with the best than DFO - you won't argue with this?

Just my own game style.
I self identify as a monkey.
Torch out

Hmm does anybody pay you for playing DFO for 2 months if you hate it so much?

Here's the issue.
The only review for Darkfall must be positve. I'll help you out.
A++ would try again.
And, as usual, if you don't the game, then there's obviously something wrong with you. Darkfall is complete and ready for launch, and is more complete then any game even one month after release. So.. clearly you are in the wrong.

Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*
Thanks for the review Fariic...it actually answered a lot of questions I had about this game.
What a waste. I was so looking forward to this game too.
