Making a negative post expressing your opinion of the game is fine.  Everyone is entitled to there view.  Some people might disagree and correct or try to help you with things that you say that they believe are wrong and that's fine too.  It is all good discussion and valuable viewpoints for people that come to the forums looking for information about a game.  Everyone has their own bias and having both viewpoints is good because everyone know that the truth is between the extremes.

However, when you make a post like above it really just makes you out to be a troll...  You are no longer giving your viewpoint you are now saying that everyone that posts anything positive is lying and only your viewpoint has any merit.  Further is discredits everything you have said as being completely set in an agenda to dispell anything positive said about the game as being the point of your post.  No longer an expression of what you didn't like about the game but rather an attack on people that post anything positive.

1° I agree with the OP

2° to the fanboys: we live in democracy, so you MUST respect opinions.

VG has 2 of the greatests features of mmos: Craft and Diplomacy. But it's an unfinished game, a bêta, and has a very very very low pop. Vg's dungeons have no interest. It's only grinding and bashing 4/5 dots mobs for hours. There's no story, no background, nothing.

"do you know any good $OE game? seriously.. it's a trap!"

Lol no, stopped all SOE's mmos.

Lol @trolls pleading for us respecting their opinion. No, mr, your opinion is worthless and nobody cares about it until you actually play the game past level 2 and make well written vaild arguments.

I didn't play at release so I don't know what it was like.  I do know that I have been playing for a little more than a month and the game is a LOT of fun.  Crafting, diplomacy, and questing are great.  It's not holding your hand, you don;t have to follow a story line that you know the outcome for like LotRO, which I also enjoy.  It's something different and I enjoy it.

You don't enjoy it OP so don't play it.  I think your thread title is misleading, it reads to me that you are saying the game is close to being good.

I hear that it has gotten a LOT better from people in the guild I am in that have been playing since beta.  I didn;t take part in beta because the download was too big anf I didn;t want to wait and I heard from others that it is not worth the hassle.   So I waited a while to play and I am glad I did.

Opinions are respected if someone actually plays the game and gives their reasonable opinion.  The OP obviously did not.  You'll find many mini-reviews on this thread both pro and con on Vanguard from people that tried they game, I'd encourage any player considering playing to read those.

Compared to WoW, Vanguard does have a very low population.  But then again, Vanguard only has 3 PvE servers.  So from a server/population perspective the populations are very healthy.  And you opinion on dungeons and no story or lore????  You are kidding right?

  • AdamantineAdamantine Member RarePosts: 5,094

A democracy means you have the right for an own opinion.

It does not mean you wont be riddiculed for your opinion if its obviously stupid, such as stating water is dry.

Of course Vanguard isnt the perfect game, no program is ever "perfect".

  • TalinTalin Member UncommonPosts: 923

It's funny what you can gleam when you look at bad grammar. Take the title:

'Do not trust the this game is now good threads'

Which says - Don't trust any of the threads that say the game is good now

'cause it is not far from it'

Says - because it is now far from being good. (the it implies good based on the structure of the sentence).

Yeah, exactly. Express your opinion on the game; don't throw out idiotic statements about other people's reviews and thoughts about a game. Don't like the game? That's fine. Indicate why, and go on your way.

VG is not a game, but a beta, everybody knows that. that's why no one plays vanguard.

Fixed that for ya...you seem to have gotten trolls and fanboys confused.

VG I agree doesn't have the greatest population. But by the sounds of it, the game took off on the wrong foot. Because of this I doubt it will ever recover from what it coulda been. It's the low population that ruined the game for me when I first started it. But everything else about it, I enjoyed. Now I am trying it out again with free trial, and I see an increase in population....servers are at least on 'Medium' during primetime hours.

But it is far from beta.

I feel the graphics are some of the best in recent mmo's if you have a rig that can run the game in higher settings. Did you have to run the graphic settings on low to get better performance maybe? As far as loot goes, I kinda understand what you mean about the loot not scaling properly when you look at the item level compared to your own level, but it is definitely not bland. Then as far as getting better loot from dungeons goes I haven't had that problem. I've gotten decent loot from dungeons. Maybe since item drops are somewhat random, your just not getting the luck of the draw. Also, do you take quest to do these dungeons? Usually the quest giver has nice loot rewards for completing the missions in those dungeons.

Your right about populations, it would be more fun with a lot more people running around, but I have seen a slowly increasing population. Even after all this though I still wouldn't be making a post like yours suggesting to stay away from the game. You've made your decision not to play it, and you listed your reasons, but what's wrong with telling people to try the free trial and make their own decision instead of saying "stay away from it". This posts just seems like you want to see the game fail and shut down. Maybe I should make a post saying stay away from WoW because it's crap. I do feel that way about WoW but I don't go making posts about it for everyone to read.

You mean you know how the game really is in your view/opinion. You can not say that the positive posts are wrong, and that you're post is absolutely right, and that applies, for the most part, ever.

Obviously, for many people, this game is good.  For the OP, and what he is apparantly looking for in a game, it is not.  Arguments like this are silly, and are bogging down these forums.

Well, no. Even in a democracy I only respect educated and balanced opinions. This modern thinking that everyone's opinions, no matter how stupid, intentionally jaudiced, or just plain wrong they are, are 'valid' and worthy of respect is beyond me. I will choose who I 'MUST' respect, thanks very much.

    Especially on the interwebz.

VG is a good game, it does exactly what it says on the tin. It just needs more people to be the best social co-op PvE game out there imo.

Now that I have played the excellent TCoS as much as I want to (until they stick in new PvE, pref group, content at least), and SOE have stated that the new EQ server will be 50/51, and that all the new games (JGE, CO, etc) look just to be super casual lite ez mode soloers, Vanguard is getting another look from me.

C'mon SoE, time to give away the client and first month for free and get some advertising out there to encourage people to give it a go by now surely? Lets get some population into this beautiful world.

Wow!! I can only applaud what you say about opinions.  To respect an opinion it has to be above all honest, and today one of the biggest flaws in the internet is people posting extreme stuff just hopping to get a rise out of the community.  The MMORPG forums are one of the best for tools to deal with this kinda stuff.  I tend to use the ignore option after someone posts enough times that I decide that they are not posting opinions but just meaningless noise trying to get a rise out of people.

Looks like pretty much we share the same opinions. Analyzing it, I cant get to understand why in the hell Sony is not giving the proper love to their online games division, or why all that love (if any) is going to EQ2 instead of VG.

I am not going to bash EQ2 here, not a bad game at all, but like Vesavius said, Vanguard is now everything that should be at the beginning, unfortunately was not that way two years ago, otherwise the MMORPG scene would be different now.

So another call to SOE from me... wake the hell up, get your head out off your ass cheeks and give VG the promotion it needs! Now depends on the MarComm team, the devs are doing their homework.

I agree with the OP on this one, although I wish I didn't.

I was there since day one with this game when it was teeming with life, many many people online.

Bugs, lag, performance issues, character issues, etc etc etc, geez I mean threads upon threads on this

    stuff.

Dev team has changed over many times, even putting interims to work with SOE on this game.  Slow patches and changes

that just don't make any sense.  For example the ranger notes on the next patch just got a nerf in the form of lower range????????????????????WTH as if the rangers weren't complaining already enough about the ranger and it's abilities, they go and nerf the range Oh man.

One huge issue with this game is still the performance, there servers are what 3 years old now and it's showing, chunk lines are still

an issue, you still become dismounted in a lot of areas, sometimes while you are flying.  If you are on a ship and you hit a chunk line you freeze for like 3 minutes and then "no boat" it's really frustrating and this was like 3 weeks ago.  Yah Vanguard does look like the most beautiful MMO out to date, but it's not very populated in ANY server and it never will because SOE refuses to spend more money on it and re-release it.  I probably give this game like 2 more years if even that.  By then you will have "the Old Republic" and "Guild Wars 2" which will pull more people away, say goodbye to Vanguard by then, it will be HISTORY.

This game does not have that, even the enemies and bosses are bland  so is the loot. There is really no reason to even do dungeons. In other games you can do dungeons to get better loot for that level and get good exp, in vanguard dungeons yea you can aquire exp but you get it faster if you solo, the gear is half assed and does not even scale.

it took them two years + to put in one  end game raid dungeon into the game. The population is extremely low and thats being gracious as well. The servers should be labled grave yard rather than low. Vanguard is the type of game that needs a good population to enjoy, nothing like walking for a very long time and not seeing another player insight.

One positive thing about the game is that the world is indeed very huge, huge but empty.

I also played the trial isle of the game it is nothing like what you will see after the isle. It is a gimmick to get you into their sheety game.

The clunkiness is actually why I don't play this.

I in no way want games to mimic WoW, but I would love it if the fluidity of WoW was standard in mmo's.

I don't think you could ever find a time when the servers were more alive than now.  Obviously, I know the merge from 12 to 3 PvE servers is the main factor.  But players per server is very healthy, and there are players everywhere.  I've played since Day 1 and started and Shirdeth and it was bustling with players all starting at level 1 and beginning their adventures.  Now after the merge and during a nice revival the game feels just as busy on Seradon at the high levels as day one did on Shirdeth at the low levels.

Yep, some bugs left.  Dismounting issues are a pain, they were gone, now they are back and it probably has something to do with new equipment buffs, permanent abilities, diplomatic buffs or guild hall buffs.  It'll get fixed again.

Ranged rangers, yeah, I'm sure they aren't happy to get their ranges reduced, but they will be able to get them back via AAs it appears.  That was clearly stated by the devs, although they didn't reveal the mechanism.

As far as performance, that is vastly improved, but you still will have to play on low settings if your PC is 4 year or older.  But pretty much anything newer than 2 years old is going to run it very well.  I have not heard anyone seeing chunk-lines, that might be PC related or a corrupt file.

Overall, Vanguard is in very good shape with a healthy and growing population.  Still some bugs, and a couple annoying ones too.  But performance is no longer and issue and the content updates have put more in the game than most people have time to complete.  I play around 15 hours a week and there is now way, I can complete all the content, no way.  It'll take me months to even hit the new level cap.

As far as <insert MMO of the day here> killing Vanguard?  Yeah, yeah, we've heard that for over 2 years now. First it was going to be Tabula Rosa, then LotRO, then AoC, then WAR, then Darkfall, etc. etc.  Vanguard will never be a mass market game like WoW and nobody that plays Vanguard cares.  The 3 PvE servers are healthy and the new content keeps coming and that is just fine.

This game is awesome, if I actually had time to play a dedicated MMO this would be it. Although the one down side is the PVP server is dead, had some brilliant times back in the day with VG PVP. /tear So take what I say with a grain of salt, but I do think if anyone is attempting to give this game a shot will not be dissapointed.

    Peace

Everyday I wonder how ppls make end conlusion from so limited and persolnal opinion. My personal opinion is that VG is the best Theme Park game on the market. Its already enough polished till the gameplay and the feeling is great.

The most problems that ppls face with VG is the Freedom. They are ppls that expect linear game that you have predefined path and there is no way to go around it.

VG is different he have freedom and feelling of real world. You have to make decission to progress and enjoy the game. If you do not like to make a decissions but just sit back and click keys and mouse button VG is not for you.

    <Mod Edit>

I was never waiting for VG or expecting much from this game. Tried it not long ago, was very impressed and now having alot of fun. Several MMO vets I know gave it a try, all of them now playing and having good time.

I play on Halgar, there are alot of people around and all are very friendly.

So now tell me, what I should believe: brainless troll who has no clue about VG's current state, or my own eyes and MMO experience?

I think you know the answer.
