Whats the lowest spec system your using for EQ2?

panachepanache Member UncommonPosts: 397

Having found myself mmorpgless....i'm thinking about trying EQ2. But doubt my system will be able to show off the game to it's best so i'm wondering what people are managing to run EQ on?

Im running the game on the following system.

    Intel Celeron CPU (ugh!)

    Geforce 5200 256mb card

    512mb ram

As You can see I don't exactly have a fantastic gaming rig. But, the game runs suprisigly well on Very High performance. Though I am upgrading quite abit in the future, the game is still vey playable on my system.

    IBM Deep Blue...

    Only a little joke image

Like SWG this game just needs a fair wack of memory, more memory the better/smoother it runs.

I found that upgrading my graphics card did very little to nothing, see if you can expand your memory and you'll be happy. (just a note for the future)

btw SWG ran beautifully with 1gb of memory.

As for minimum specs, you should be okay (no promises though)

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

I can run it well on a AMD 3200, 1G Ram and 256M Nvidia card. Take heed though: no matter how well it runs, there are some very *not* nice graphical 'features' about this game! Look carefully at the promo videos, and check out the female characters' walk for instance. Expect a lot of that.

Pentium 2GHz, 1G Ram, ATI 9800 Pro, and still it staggers when running through town. I could turn the graphics up, but maybe I'll have to turn them down. Seriously though, it works fine with this spec. What's actually most suprising is the stability when alt-tabing or running in windowed mode. Stable as a rock so far.

It runs ok on High performance setting on the wifes box. !.7 P4, 512, ti 4200 with 128 mem. onboard soundcard. About 30 - 40 FPS, good but not excellent on the 'pretty' factor. Guess I am spoiled from playing it on my main machine.

Edit- very stable so far as poster above pointed out. However I have noticed a lot of file fragmentation. Run defrag once a week for optimum performance. I start it before bed, or before work for conveniance sake.

    I miss DAoC

    Nvidia 6800 128mb card AGP

    AMD athlon 64 300+ processor

    512mb ram (I know I should get a gig)

Now Im upgrading from this. Will their be a huge difference?

    Intel celeron 2.6ghz

    512mb ram

    Thanks for the help!

if you have an AGP motherboard, then keep the current processor. an AMD athlon64 3000+ cpu is only 2.17ghz (it varies, but that is the barton model, trust me the 2.6ghz is better) i would also go with the gf5700ultra instead of the 128mb 6800 it will save you lots of money, and its very close in comparison. then, i would jump up the ram to 1024mb and you will be good.
(i provided links for you also so you can compare.)

what do you mean that celeron is better than the 3000+? that athlon is heaps better than the celeron...

i would also suggest going with either a 5700 Ultra or even a 9700Pro or 9800Pro. there is no point in having 512MB of Ram and a semi- top of the line card. you have to even it out.

what are you talking about!!??  5700 fx is almost the same as a 6800?  omg the 6800 is like 10x faster, and i'm being modest,  than the 5700.  in fact the 5700 is probably not even as good as the gf 4 ti series!!!

Banned from Blizzard cause I was too GOOD!!!

during beta i played with a amd athalon xp 2400+ (2ghz)

    512 megs ram

    geforce 4 ti-4200 (64mb)

was totaly playable except in crowded areas of the city where it would chug occasionaly

upgraded to ati radeon 9800 pro, and added ram to make it 1 gig...runs like a charm now

    I have P4 3.2 GHz, 512Mb RAM DDR2, 256MB ATI X800XT graphics, 7200rpm hard drive

I'm still suffering "lag" in multi-monster combat, even though I don't have all the game settings high (far from it). I suspect it's the RAM - I would definitely recommend having 1GB! image
