It's funny that they did not announce the number, companies usually always do so for bragging rights.  Might be they are afraid to show them because Wolrd of Warcraft has quite a few more?

If I had to estimate on the number of servers, I would say around 250000-300000 suscribers.  Some servers might not appear too populated but the main 4-5 are way overcrowded (imagine 500 people in Bastion of Thunder when it was popular)

You know, I'd probably argue with you, but I am playing EQ2, there are more than enough players on my server to call it desert, I am enjoying it and I am not alone. So really, maybe SoE are disappointed they didn't sell as many copies as WoW, or maybe they did and don't feel like bragging, I don't care, EQ2 is still awsome and I don't give a rat's ass if WoW has 8 billion subscribers.

I'm unsure if you misread my post, but I play EQ2 as well on Antonia Bayle.  I would venture a guess to say that at peak time, we have no less than 8-10k people on the server- On the Qeynos side, there are usually 4-5 Oakmyst/caves/down below, 2 Vermin's Snye, 2 Blackburrow, 4 Antonica, maybe a hundred people in Stormhold, 200-300 in The Thundering Steeps , a large number in all the city areas and the other zones I did not name.

Well i mentioned this somewhere when someone said EQ2 had only 100k accounts.

I was in beta and have spoken to khalen and moorgard did mention this too some where in beta .

During the stress part they had a capacity of around 15k  on beta one and the stability held.

Now according to moorgard live servers were planned for 9-10k capacity before filling up.They might have even overdriven this number to allow those stuck on very crowded servers a chance to get in like runneye.

Last weekend i found about 8 servers reading full and another 8 on heavy load.Mine oasis was on heavy and briefly filled up on one occasion. So if the server capacity is right we are talking of no less then 120-150k accounts logged in at the SAME time. This is not even taking into account the overcrowded french and german servers by the way.

Of course not everyone is on at the same time.I think a easy number is 250-300k and WoW might be edging to 400k itself.

If SoE felt dissapointed about WoW outselling them then they are daft sorry.Warcrft is known well in the RTS.RPG and mmorpg circuits.EQ is relatively unknown outside mmorpg crowds.

WoW has pvp and pve.EQ2 has only pve.

WoW has lower requirements for system specs then EQ2.

Nothing to do with which of these games are better but those 3 factors are driving forces for marketing.

Wow. Best post I've seen in a long time. Great 3 points herc. I never thought of it like that. 1 of those points is a reason I'm not currently playing EQ2. Waiting for Christmas on my computer upgrades =P So I'm sure I'm not the only one. No PVP also almost made me turn away from EQ2 so I'm sure it has for others as well.
