Death & Debauchery Moves On
Many of you may have noticed over the last two months that two things have happened. One, my play time has drastically decreased and two, that we as a guild have largely stopped recruiting. This was due to the decision on my part to stop recruitment in a possible move to end up shutting down the guild. I allotted myself one month of time to make that decision, and after weighing it heavily I have decided that Death and Debauchery will close itself on AoC as of May 25th 2009.
For myself, as well as most of the officer core this game simply does not support role-play in a manner which we find acceptable. We have given Funcom fifteen months (starting on January 21st of 2008) to communicate, speak with, and support the role-play community. We have seen limited to no changes in this time. We have seen the careless destruction of a RP-PVP server, we have seen the lack of incentives for role-players and the continued attempts to “throw bones” to keep us sated while quietly shrugging off the real issues.
You will have no doubt seen a drastic decline of D&D’s membership over the last 2 months. Many of my personal friends have left the guild and left the game. Despite this, the decision was not an easy one to make. Some of D&D will stay with this game, but the majority will not. The majority have already left in this last month or are in the process of doing so now.
I am proud to say that I have led one of the most successful role-playing guilds on Age of Conan for 15 months. We always maintained our standards, our member base and whenever we were interested in pursuing something (Such as raiding, or Battlekeeps) we were successful until such a time as we decided we were done.
I would like to thank all D&D members past and present for being a part of the journey that was our guild. I know that D&D will always be a part of Cimmeria, we are a part of its rich and diverse history and I know that in role-play Sinreth and what it was to the community will not soon be forgotten (whether ill or good).
Those of us in D&D’s officer core would like to thank everyone who made our experience on Cimmeria fun, and to wish luck to those who would continue to try and maintain and foster this community. Perhaps someday we will be back, but for now it is off to greener pastures for us. We will always remember the Cimmeria that we loved, but for many of us it simply is not the same anymore.
Good Luck,
Cirus
now first off i don't like rp and d&d was one of the most sad guilds around but this shows that aoc is about to die when a die hard rper guild leaves the game
Comments
You guys maintained an RP guild in Age of Conan (the most unfriently MMO for RP in existence) for over a year?! I do not know whether to call you a masochist or to simply applaud you.
Well, good luck wherever you go. I hope you learned your lesson that AoC is not and cannot be RP friendly. I knew that since day one.
looool a RP guild leaves and now the game is dead? after the first few months the game was already dead because there was just no content for the normal players.
Glad I did not invest in Funcom I have to say.
The tank that is born to tank!
I thought RP was always dead in this game. Funcom doesn't even enforce its' own naming rules on the RP server.
Well I would not say it is dieing because a large RP guild left the game,Maybe your title should have been ....
"AoC RPing never took off and here is proof" :P
If it was sold as a RPing title then your thread would have merit but as it stands it really doesnt.

eh? Because one guild leaves doesnt mean that a game is dying.
IMHO i think AoC is about to take off with the imminent release of 1.05 and with how smooth the game runs now, there is a trial and an expansion in the works as well.
just cause the game is running as it should have before they released it does not maker it fun. I have hope for 1.05 and the expansion but they could be total flops. Time will tell.
Anyway back to topic I never saw much potential for RP in theis game anyway. Sort of a second rate pay to play version of Guild Wars more than anything. No offense meantr to Guild Wars of course.
I miss DAoC
It is to laugh.
Dateline 2009 Cimmerias Largest RP guild leaves!!!
The OP makes his post sound like it came from a legitimate gaming site. When Massivley puts this on their front page I might take notice...until then it's just another QQ quit post.
I'm sure the OP can confirm that infact all of their members have unsubscribed from the game?.......yeah that's what I thought.
This thread could have done without the melodrama. You're leaving doesn't somehow signify the apocalypse is nigh you narcissist.

Many people dont consider massively.com as a reliable source, because they got PR funds from game companies including Funcom.

This is actually a major issue.
For those who whine that RP guilds don't mean crap, for your information, RP guilds will put up with a games foibles a lot longer than a PvP'er or PvE'er, due to the guild making a game within the game, and sticking it out with those friends they have made.
But, I agree with the OP, in that the RP rules not being enforced by Funcom has pretty much shutdown any major RP guilds sticking it out.
The game is not a game for longevity as long as they treat the causals and the RP'ers like 2nd wheels, ...you know, the ones who pay the longer subscription times? Maybe Funcom needs to cater a little more.
Ah well, it will be fun until the end though.
this game isn't dieing not by far lol.
i'm sorry guild's don't make the game
Even though the game was coveted for it's Guild warfare and struggles over Keeps? I cannot see your logic in this statement. Please explain.
Because you left your guild the rest of them are too?
You arn't that cool...... Unless the guild size was less then 10.

Empirical evidence of this or admit you are a liar.
This^ the smear campaign by the shills and AO butthurts continues.
1 not my guild and i wouldn't have anything to do with d&d i don't like rp and on a game like aoc rp does not belong on the game
2 this shows that aoc is dying as rpers are the most loyal ppl to play an mmorpg next to us pvpers and the pvpers are leaving aoc in droves cuz the game isn't fun
really when one of the biggest rper guilds leaves the game it is a sign that the game is on its last legs
I could point you in the direction of my 1st post in this thread but as you seemed to ignore that I will add this..
I have played a hell of alot of mmo's and have seen some very large guilds(no idea of this guild in relation to its numbers)including some hard core RPing guilds leave games in the past, they were for all sorts of reason's such as other games, burn out or indeed in this case not enough in the game for RP'ers and no sign of that changing.
Having said that, this is the 1st post I have seen that claims a game is dying because a large RP guild is leaving the game,or indeed a game is dying because any large guild is leaving.
I do agree an RP guild tends to put up with alot more problems with the game as they can see past all that, though I still say your thread should have been called "proof that RP never took off in AoC" as that would have had merit, your thread topic does not have merit, not in the least...

Sorry to see those guys go, but ya it has definitely been over a year.
Looking back, i can honestly say without taking any shred of pride, BECAUSE ITS NOT, that we outlasted a hell of a lot of "ovaltine drinking mouth breathing imbreds" in both game as a whole and on server. Just a shame that funcom had many other problems to deal with, not to mention seeing rp as a third class citizen. The one quote from either famine or craig comes to mind just out of paraphrasing:
" roleplay is something that can be done in isolated corners, being able to survive blah blah blah"
the other piece from their mouths plainly stating that the rp community is not one of their priority concerns.
so ya, it is completely understandable, they had ALOT of things they had to fix, and with rping being that of a minority, they have "intelligently" got rid of one of two of the rp-pvp servers, ignored the pve servers majority request to be named a rp server, and left the last "official" rp-pvp server go to waste and die.
Please, for the love of god, some one tell me that i am lying, tell me i am exaggerating and offer me their canned 4chan trash interwebs insults. "oh QQ post, roffles etc" . sorry folks, there is no hiding what has happened, and what is still happening, you cant DX 10 bandaid this problem.
Nothing wrong of leaving the game to find greener pastures, a few days after their announcement i somewhat endorse their decision, no sense of stress over a game esspecially over a year when nothing is done "let alone taken away from the community".
I already said my peace towards DnD, i cant say i liked them either, but they added a element towards the community that will be hard replace. Not many guilds can say that they held a bk for so long while having a quality amount of rpers that can also pvp "GASP" and beat the crap out of you.
I myself have a couple months in me to play AOC, but as for my pvp mindless killing fix, I will not find it in this game once the community ends up closing shop. alot is riding on 1.05, and i mean alot. if 1.05 tanks, for me personally ill be heading back to planetside.
Once again though, sorry to see dnd go, just the only flaw I see is making a post on these forums where no one gives a 2 cents about the guild, let alone the game.
I can hold my hand up to this.....and say you got 1 part of that right.

Quiet you!, we're the minority ..remember? >_>
Yeah, what are we talking about, 50, to 100 people leaving a server? Happens all the time, no big deal.
Every game comes to an end, it was just this guild's time.
