Skill Based MMORPG For Casual Players (That Actually Have A Life)

I would like to play a good MMORPG thats based on a skill system close to the MMORPG Neocron.
Does anyone know about any of those? I don't always get the chance of day to play all the time.
I'm still thinking about Wish,Vanguard, or Dark N Light but I dont know if any of those are skill
based or just leveling like in Everquest or most MMORPGs.

    You should try Project Entropia.

Everything you do is based on skills.

Check the game list for more nfo.

Face of Mankind.. which is FPS like Neocron.

There are no skills and classes; which means a casual will always be able to compete with a hardcore player in combat. Advancement is done through faction rank.

Yeah I like the idea of skill points and classes but not leveling like they do in Everquest just pure skill points like in Neocron I wouldnt mind a sci fi genre but I was wondering also if there is a fanbtays one. I want to try Project Entropia everyone tells me its really good and that you can make money on it too. :D

Guild Wars is base on skills, but it's not really a mmo. It's still a good online game with no monthly fee. It's not out until Feb 05.

This game has changed alot since anyone has really given it a reveiw it is definately growing for the better, the gameplay requires one to actually have skill to pvp, but while using guns and the sort one also gains in special skills, like hiding, shape shifting, weapon tech and more, you can really play the game how you want, weather you prefer to lvl or just run around blasting things :)

I'm waiting for Trials of Ascension from Shadowpool.

Go to www.trailsofascension.com for more details.  Outstanding in its promise and premise.

Permadeath and environmental challenges are the next great step in the evolution of MMORPGs. Only through true adversity will one feel accomplished. Only in truly knowing you can die will true adversity present itself.

Planetside is a MMO 3D FPS Shooter.  you could always try that.

Or Star Wars Galaxies' very own Jump to lightspeed expansion.  All based on reflexes, aim and shoot, except I can never play it on weekend nights cause it's lagging, and try to shoot at a ship that's warping all over the place due to lag. :P

Is that what you mean by "skill"?  Cause most MMORPGs have skills that your character gains.

Like for example, Everquest 2, if you're a Priest, you gain a Healing Skill, which allows you to heal.  Is that what you mean't?  Or you really mean't a gamer's reflex skills?

No I mean more by like Skills like in Neocron...

I will show u an example

you have 5 seperate MAIN skills

    ATHELETICS

    DEXTERITY

    INT

    PSI POWER

In each category you have a skill like if you use the rilfe a lot your dexter level raises and under the category one of the skills that are included is Rifle combat. Which once that level raises depending on what you USE most it will gain a MAIN SKILL LEVEL UP and then u have 5 points to spend on rifle combat or any skill UNDER that MAIN skill level and same for PSI POWER if you use PSI power a lot it will gain a level up on PSI POWER so if u are in PSI power LEVEL 2 and u use it and gain exp just by using it then you will end up gaining a PSI POWER LEVEL 3 and then u will be able to put points into Passive Aggressive PSI or whatever is under that category. But you HP and all that depends on what you put underneath one of those MAIN SKILL POINTS. Its really cool because in Neocron if you get hit a lot you gain EXP on one of the main skills which will let u raise your body speed or your max HP or what not.

Theres no game out there really with a Leveling system like neocrons.

I used to play neocron myself and was looking for a similar type of game like you when i quit after enjoying the concept of the game, just not the way it was run. The closest game i found was Face of Mankind which is very much like neocron in setting (mega citys, MMORPG + FPS). It does not however have leveling which makes your char better the longer you play, its down to your FPS skills and the gear you have.
I think its the closest you will find to NC and its casual friendly (as theres no leveling) but if you really really like to level then you would have to try a different type of game like everquest or WoW. Face of Mankind is not out yet also (although open beta is ment to be here soon) so if you wanted to get into a game quick its not really an option.

    Hope this helped.

if you're on a budget runescape and eternal lands would be good choices. otherwise saga of ryzom and swg are your other choices

    Playing: Saga of Ryzom
Beta/retired: Star Wars Galaxies, Tibia, lineage 2, darkages, conquer, runescape, raganarok, knight online, Eternal lands
hope to play: face of mankind, dark and light

Well, I don't know about what you define as casual/serious play, but I consider myself a casual/opportunistic player (maybe 1 - 2 hrs per day but if a nice weekend rolls around I might dump half or more of the day into it)  I'm also occaisionally an infrequent player (in that I leave the game for a month during hard periods of coursework)  I'd say play Project Entropia.  Its kinda like life in that you get out what you put in.  If you don't want to play for a while, you don't pay for wasted time, but if you do want to get a lot of progress in a short amount of time, you can have it (you just better plan on paying for it)

people think because of the real economy that the game is crazy.  truth be told I think paying 15 bucks for a month of time i didn't spend playing a game is even more crazy.  every dollar I've put into PE has come back to me in pure entertainment.

plus you don't have to worry about the developer going under or creating a pathetic sequal that swallows up the original game (cough...neocron2)

    just my 20PEC (2 cents)

I just started playing PE and I have to say its a pretty cool game. I actually given 0.4 PED and someone took me into their wings as a disclipe or whatever. Its actually a skill based leveling game and i plan to play it out. I was wondering though if u want to not spend too much money on PE whats a good average to get u started like maybe 10 bucks a week or what? Project Entropia i actually enjoyed it lastt night. Thanks for the tip :) but i will wait for the others i mentioned.
