GTX 300, and HD5870 information leaked

CleffyCleffy Member RarePosts: 6,414

Some information got leaked about the specs on these cards.

GTX 380

  • Run on a 40nm process.
  • Utilizes 1GB GDDR5 clocked at 4.0 ghz (Memory clock set to 2.0ghz effective 4.0ghz)
  • 256-bit bus
  • Core Clock increased to 850mhz
  • Double SPU count 384 SPU.
  • DX11 support
  • Expected release Jan.2010

HD5870, 5870x2

  • Run on a 40nm process
  • Utilizes 1GB GDDR5 (2GB for x2) clocked at 4.8 ghz(Memory clock set to 2.4ghz effective 4.8ghz)
  • 256-bus
  • Core Clock increased 950mhz(1000mhz for x2)
  • 50% more SPU count 1200 SPU (2400 SPU for x2)
  • DX11 support
  • ROPs doubled to 32
  • Texture Units increased to 48
  • Expected Release July 2009

Hopefully nVidia can pull off a better product by January.  It looks like nVidia might suffer like ATI did with the HD2xxx series for not adopting future DX architecture earlier like ATI.  The HD5870 is simply a revamp of an HD3870 done on a smaller die process.  The HD5870x2 is a monster with a 4.56 TFlops of calculating power, more then 4 times the power of an HD4870.  Also due to ATIs new manufacturing process, the release of the HD5850, HD5850x2, HD5870, and HD5870x2 are ontop of each other.  What is odd is the higher clock on the X2 models, probably a manufacturing need for using sideport.

nVidia has its work cut out for it now.  Not only does an ATI card calculate polies 3 times faster,  process 4 times the amount of information at a time, and process them at a higher clock; it also now processes the same amount of pixels and textures at a time.

Impresive, i just hope nvidia will pull something as good by then to. Right now Ati will chew nvidia out literaly.

Tbh im not even Ati bigest fan i use 9800gx2 now but new Ati product looks like a HUGE improvement. Well in the end we will have to wait for tests to see the difrence :)

I hope a single card will be little more than £200, otherwise I'll have to rob a bank to get a 5870!

Lol are you being seriuos?  Go read Tomashardware site for proper card test run in all conditions, and The GTX 290 pisses all over ATI.

For high end gaming the GTX 295 is the most powerful card on the planet.

by 'right now' he means, with the information we have about the 5870 and gtx 300, the new Ati looks like a huge improvement/will chew nvidia out. He's not talking about the current gen. I don't doubt that nvidia will have something badass by then as well though even if they have to brute force it.

without  trying to start a pissing match.....   Where did you get this info.....?  post a link

Second, Nvidia is releaseing  a Few cards... that could be the lowest one in the Series..

If thats the Case  you could pushing ATI's flagship on  Nvidias entry level card..  (and we all know what happend to that Flagship last series)

Counting on Nvidia to have problems  when Nividia Has soundly beaten the bag out of ATI time and time again.  IF info is hard to come by...... Then you look to the Past.

And I would not buy that ATI card for at least 5 months...One the price, two Driver support

I found a buyer  for my SLI 285's  so the min the 300 cards come out, i will let you all know

i will be getting either  Sli 300 Flagships or Tri 300 next step down.

Dont know  yet... The New Cell CPU could be out....If so i need a New MB+CPU

the one thing about my X58 MB  is they put the PCI E1 is in a spot I cant Run Tri with a Sound Card..???? WTF

According to the latest rumors Nvidia's GT300, that will probably be a completely new developed chip, will have 512 Shader ALUs that are positioned in 16 packs with 32 units each. Furthermore the GT300 is said to support DirectX 11 and Shader Model 3.1 as well as OpenCL. The 512 Shader ALUs are supposed to be placed as a MIMD solution (Multiple Instructions, Multiple Data) and not as a SIMD solution (Single Instruction, Multiple Data).

NVIDIA's been dabbling in the CPU space behind closed doors for years now, but with Intel finally making a serious push into the GPU realm, it's about time the firm got serious with bringing the goods. BSN has it that the company's next-generation GT300 will be fundamentally different than the GT200 -- in fact, it's being hailed as the "first truly new architecture since SIMD (Single-Instruction Multiple Data) units first appeared in graphical processors." Beyond this, the technobabble runs deep, but the long and short of it is this: NVIDIA could be right on the cusp of delivering a single chip that can handle tasks that were typically separated for the CPU and GPU, and we needn't tell you just how much your life could change should it become a reality. Now, if only NVIDIA would come clean and lift away some of this fog surrounding it (and the rumored GTX 380), that'd be just swell.

Hopefully nVidia does that.  Its about time they get a chip that can support SM4.1, and MIMD.  I got the info on the leaked HD5870 on the Windows 7 forum.  I got the info on the GTX 380 from multiple sources, pretty much I looked for sources that had matching information since some had way bad info like it was being made on a 45nm process, or it was using GDDR3.  The doubling of SPUs and the switch to GDDR5 on a 256-bit bus has been pretty consistent.  Also a 200 mhz higher core clock has also been consistent.  However, SPUs and clock aren't the only things that matter or else ATI would have the best card of the last few generations.

One of the more important things is support of architecture.  ATI is using the same architecture they have been since the RV670 nVidia has been using the same architecture from the G80.  This will be a new architecture for nVidia which could have problems or benefits at the benchmarks.

    Sounds cool,

im quite certain ill be ignoring this card and buying whatever the 250cad price range card is in that same series as i usually do. I buy high end cards but im not one of those morons who buys the 600 dollar card on release... or the bigger moron who buy 2 of them to sli/cross right out the box.

Card sounds cool though, i dont know why they would be working on dx11 when dx10 hasnt even been properly assimilated into the gaming world. Sounds pretty stupid to me.

DirectX is backwards compatible.  It would be pretty difficult to run the games of today without DX8 or DirectDraw.  I would say its a good year for DX11, its been 3 years since DX10.

oh whole ati vs nvidia war.. major posters on this topic.. are actually thinking ppl, which are happy for both nvidia and ati ,

there are still few which feels like there is war comming , im nvidia user, but i feel like protecting ati for a while now, mainly cuz without real competition we wont have real cards, and nvidia drivers suxs major cock atm

as to gtx 300 vs 380gt, first is series.. second is model , 290gt or wtf its called.. is from 200 series.. 380 will be from 300 series.

380 is more of high end, compare to 280, compare 250 to low end for 200 series.. same naming for 300

what happened to last ati flagship.. i dunno ? it turned tide in gpu market last year.. it got so much positive reviews.. and it was best performance card for atleast half year? so nvidia got stronger card few months ago, 2 months more if its true and ati will have stronger again

you can say nvidia is leading, and ati is behind, cuz nvidia is leading now, but you can look other way.. 4870x2 were beating nvidia counterparts,  and were released sooner, nvidia catched up, and took over, but ati will release another one.. and be infront for another 6 months as it looks

i dont buy whole ati drivers are crap, so are nvidia drivers.. every new nvidia driver is getting poorier and poorier.. i love how i can open my errors report, and find 525252 crashes report.. all of them containing same thing

nvidia drivers caused the crash/error/lockup whatnot, please check for new drivers.. oh i run latest ones.. 2bad

be happy , that you got something comming i doubt i wil be buying anything new from incomming gen, as i still can run everything more or less on max, and next pc probably gona be 2 gens away , aka 2 years.. i dont buy high end to upgrade in a year..
