The game is now being ravaged by hackers and I mean ruined, SOE are doing absolutely nothing about it, not a thing for over a month now. The hackers are even pairing up and this with teleporting into gen rooms in MAX suits means they can stop entire empires.
The last time a Enrico (Lead Developer) actually bothered to post on the forums was the 11th March and Rajinn (CSR) posts junk in non-game relating General Chat only.
I never known something like it ever on a SUBSCRIPTION game.
It can take up to 13 hours for them to answer on the appeal system (that covers all SOE games) and we have hackers bragging they have gone 48 hours before being banned.
My recommendation, dont bother coming back, dont worry about the server merge it aint gonna happen.
If you played Planetside between 2003-2006 then you played it at its best and leave it at that.
SOE seem to be heading straight to the dogs game wise anyway.
Comments
I played this game for over 4 years. However, we have all known its been on life support as far as development for a few years now, its a shame, SOE is letting a cash cow die, and isn't making a replacement.

Before the hackers started ruining the game 2 months ago, XFire showed 600 XFire players a day, since 90% of the PS Community dont use XFire the population was very healthy.
Xfire now shows 193 a day, if you take that across the board 2/3 of the playerbase have left.
Its like SOE have just disapeared, its insulting and should be a warning to those subscribed to other SOE games, shocking service and this is supposed to be SONY.
I quit the game because SOE have just abandoned it, just reading the SOE forums a minute ago I think it was the right decision.
The game just made 6 years old, no merit badge has been produced and the last CSR has been transferred to another game.
Pretty much say the game is now dead.
SOE have alienated a lot of the former PS players from ever subbing to another of their games.
I thought this game closed years ago?
That would be an incorrect assumption.
Any other company would have shut down this game years ago. But since SOE never shuts down any—oh wait, they are shutting down The Matrix! I bet this game gets canned very soon.
Best MMOG I ever played and every new so-called MMOFPS in development is not even close to capturing what this game had.
Planetside had two points when it died which were Core Combat expansion and BFRs. Core Combat was a terrible rushed expansion and like JTLS people were hoping on it giving more content and variety to the game. However it didn't and I remember alot of people getting fedup of capturing the same old bases over and over again. So the community asked for new bases and maybe some cities on the islands some more and instead of giving that to us, which they failed to do with CC they gave us BFRS.
I remember BFRs really were the final blow and so many people including me and all my friends just quit and never came back, even though they were nerfed, the damamge was done and the game engine had become so dated.
Since 2004 SOE have left planetside to die but really the damage was done during development when SOE lowered the budget and took alot of the developers to go work on SWG because it was behind and SOE needed it to be released quickly or LA would sue SOE.
OP: I never known something like it ever on a SUBSCRIPTION game.
Obviously you never tryed DF
Darkfall is not even close. Sorry.

I cancelled my subscription 3-4 months ago and it wasn't that bad. The worst I had to deal with were a few people speed hacking and shooting through doors.
You guys make it sound like it got REALLY bad, care to explain?
So very true. I played this right from the start. I remember even reading about before it was released (in a gaming magazine no less) and thinking that if they ever pulled this off, it would be the revolutionary. It was that and more.
I am one of the few who actually liked the BFRs, but couldn't stand the rest of the Core Combat expansion. Those caves made me sea sick.
I personally think the hacking and Core Combat were the biggest factors in killing this game. Blatant and obvious hacking completely ruins the immersion for me, and when nothing is done about it, I just say to myself, what's the point of playing it any more. There are other things that contributed to it however. I didn't like when they made the map into planets instead of the islands on one planet that they originally were. Then they had that one battle island continent, were certain weapons (heavy weapons and certain vehicles) couldn't be used. There were 3 or 4 base designs that were used throughout the life of the game. I always thought they could be redesigned, or have some new designs added that gave us SOMETHING different to fight in. Then they added in-game advertising in the HART building which I thought was the beginning of the end as well.
How a company could let a game concept like this completely die off is beyond me. I'm just amazed this wasn't advertised more, expanded upon, or upgraded. No game since has given me the gaming experience that this one has.
Ditto.. however I think that the caverns AND the BFRs did more harm in the end than good.. Sure new content is great, but once every basefight became swarmed with BFRs then everyone started taking them and the whole infantry warfare got laid waste to the sidelines.. god I loved that game. Sniping was great... even if they only had the one hitbox for the whole body and didn't make headshots instakill. I loved how you could just tool up your character however you wanted, either join up with the outfit in an planned attack on a base, drop into a hotspot and join in any local parties in the area, or just casually head out on your own and solo a tower or mess up the enemy's supply lines....
Random question- did anyone anytime ever manage to push the fight all the way to either of the faction's sanctuaries? Like did that ever happen? or was that just a pipedream?
Life is about take chances and venturing out of your box, making mistakes and learning from them, and doing what you love. Find what drives you, as all paths end the same, so why not make the most of it and live a life worth living without regret?
From when i can remember back around 2005-06 (god i feel old saying that....)
Was a time when Vanu and NC were trading blows, which one of the GMs opened the flood gates to let enemies inside either the NC or TR's Sancutary, the amount of stolen vanguards and prowlers was euphoric, but not as much more satisfying than having their own stolen vechiles run them over the moment they left the spawn tubes rooms to walk outside.
good times, was about to leave AOC to try Planetside once last time, but hearing about the hackers, SOE business, Teleporting MAXs, Vista being a pain while playing this game, refreshed my memory as to why i left.
Shame, a game that was so different be thrown to the side, the proof was in the pudding when SOE anounced their generic fan-faire only to see planetside not even mentioned at all at any of the fan-faires, those that represented planetside did get a nice plastic glowy sword ingame--but even that didnt keep those people for long.
Yup, an event was put in place where the empire with more pop would have to fight the other two. On Emerald, it sucked hard. The devs selected TR and then everyone 4th empired onto NC and VS and just owned the hell out of the TR. We lost to the NC first (it was damn quick, what with NC lining up at the warpgates to get in) and then once that happened we directed all available forces against the VS. Imagine, despite being backed up into one base against the warpgate leading to sanc, and thus, a literal army of vehicles (CR5s were telling anyone not defending the base proper to warp back to sanc so they could push more vehicles through).... we still lost with HOURS to spare. It's not 100% the devs fault, the VS outpopped TR at the start by a little bit and by the end, only about 2% of game pop was TR because people either ragequit or just played other empires.
It was a PR disaster. Funny thing is, I usually play NC. I was screwing around on TR that day, had no idea I'd be involved in the largest (and fastest) war I've ever seen in Planetside (outside of beta of course).
They should really get this game out for free... Imagine the increased playerbase...
To me Planetside died when it released most rushed expansion ever, Core Combat. Instead of adding things playes asked for (bunkers etc..), they made another zone with ugly looking caves and some stupid ziplines. People asked more things to surface, but they give this to divide playerbase.
Before that expansion Planetside was very healthy, over half of my clan stopped playing about month or two since this expansion came along. Some were bored yes, but this wasnt what player asked for. Even simple artillery piece players got was some strange alien hover tank which was totally "alien" looking even to players. Ugly
They could have made so much more out of this game, its maybe one of my best times ever those 5 months when i was playing Planetside. Great fun, big battles big territory. They just never made conquering any meaningfull, its was basicly just capture a flag and after that enemy can capture it immediately and no benefit for your side to capture it really. If there would have been some terms that one side can win server, there could have been more reason to hold some territories more.
I totally loved it, but cant touch it anymore. Hope someday there comes something very similar to this
