LOTRO will always have a healthy population. Want to know why? The Tolkien Society. And the games mature playerbase. Tolkien created an entire genre of fantasy and Turbine IMO has done well to adhere to TTS' strict rules on the lore. As long as Turbine sticks to those rules, (I think they have to in order to keep the license anyway), LOTRO will always have a very respective playerbase. They arent looking to beat WoW, they are looking to cater to millions of fans around the world who want to immerse themselves in Tolkien's world. LOTRO will never use features or mechanics to attract its players, all it needs is that very solid IP and its golden. Edit: Nuff said. Il rephrase this then. While running a stable MMO is an important thing (i.e. having good mechanics, working combat system, etc), Turbine is trying to form a visual representation of Tolkiens world, not have the best "end game" or coolest attacks.
Better.
Again wrrong,Lotro "end game" is not even close dude, get back to ur golden wow end game and stay there.
I have been playing LOTRO for 2 months now and my experience has been pretty positive. I have played several MMORPGs with the main one being EQ (since 2001). I am on one of the newer servers (Gladden) which seems to be resonably populated without being crowded.
One reason there may not be a lot of grouping is that this game is solo friendly, I am in a Kinship but haven't grouped much. I like the user community, not nearly as vulgar as WOW or EQ (which isn't too bad nowadays). Of course it does not have the depth that EQ does. I am just wondering if I will max out the content soon and start getting bored.

I too find the community, graphics and storyline very good. But for some reason, i cant stay with the game for long periods of time. Not sure if its me or the game but its the way it is.

Not every game is for everyone. I wanted to like AoC and EvE and had the same issue. I never could lock into the fun factor even though others seemed to enjoy them and could not really figure out why they never grabbed me.

It's not just you. I'm a LotRO lifer, and am glad I am, but I still get bored of the game every now and then. I've tried twice now to get into the MoM expansion, but the boring, repetitive quests in Moria just sap all my interest and enjoyment of the game.
When MoM came out, I struggled to stay interested but only managed to get my guardian to 54. I rolled a captain and played them all the way to 50 before again losing interest once I hit Moria. I can't really place my finger on why I lose interest other than it's boring and repetitive in Moria.
Current: None Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

You need to learn reading comprehension. You have no idea what i was supporting there. Read it again. Fool. I wasnt supporting any type of end game, I didnt even mention WoW. I said that given the IP and its strictness, Turbine isnt shooting for an end game or catchy features but for an immersive visual representation of Middle Earth. (I am applauding Turbine.....)
It's a great game. However, it seems lately that Turbine is trying to make a large number of subscribers not very happy with the changes in game and being tested on the test server.
I suggest anyone who wants to play this game that you check the LOTRO forums first.

Champions are unhappy becasue they are getting a (justified) nerf.
Apart from that Book 8 looks great and really puts LotrO in the right direction. New raid, new 3 and 6 man instances, Some crafting love. Lots of fixes and balancing. Looking good
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Having levelled three characters to 60th in Moria now and enjoyed it, I am baffled by anyone who found moria "boring and repetitive" since it is anything but. The place is huge, I still haven't seen it all or done even close to all the quests.
I and most of my friends don't even bother paying attention to what is on the test server - changes happen in every MMO, just roll with them and cope.
Based on the tiny details that my armorsmith is doing a booming business selling 51-58th armor, how many raids I see publicly forming, kinship recruiting etc there are more people playing than ever. Heck even as meaningless and messed up as the ettenmoors are, there are usually people there too.
