As we all know, King Conan will be celebrating his anniversary as ruler of Hyboria. This is the only day of the year where we have the opportunity to see Conan outside of the confines and safety of his castle. Rarely does an opportunity like this present itself to us. Surely he will not be without guards and some protection, but it is nothing compared to the the solid stone walls of his own castle.
http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=193795
Over the past year, the black dragoon knights have FAILED to protect hyperboria from foreign armies, to the extent that even Tartania is falling. Conan may have served his country well in the past, but his power and influences wanes faster than the hyborian moon. As foreign powers continue to draw closer and closer to our homes, Conan and his army cower behind their castle wall.
Tomorrow is the time where we must reclaim the power. It is time for a new power to emerge, it is the time for Conan to FALL.
With enough people united we may have a chance to overwhelm and crush Conan's army and to deliver the final blow to the Tyrant himself.
Revolution is nigh.

OOh, lovely! This should be quite a spectacle!
(Please be on Wiccana!)
So, if they suceed will the the game be renamed?
AaC (Age after Conan) or maybe Ao<itnotgwkCh>(Age of <insert the name of the guy who kills Conan here>)
I can almost bet you he will not be able to be attacked nor killed. Plus his level + Power is close to that of a GM. Sad to, because it would be great to see him fall. Maybe get an Evil Conan to replace him, muhahaha.
So, in AoC, GM's can kick Conan's arse?

If this is the same person that posted on the AoC forums. His info showed he plays on Tyranny.

So, in AoC, GM's can kick Conan's arse?
I'm sure they can. Someone from the developer side back when AoC was released stated he could never be killed and quoted his powers as that of a GM to some extent. Maybe they changed things up though, but I doubt it.
Check out the forums, the event failed miserably and Funcom is trying to talk its way out of this by saying that they wanted players to organize an event by themselves. Why oh why must AoC fail in every aspect?!
Sometimes it seems as if you could put FC in a sealed bare room and give them a pocketknife and a ball bearing and they would manage to lose the knife and break the ball bearing. Funcom fans need to meet the Philadelphia Phillies fans, you will have lots in common.

Well, at least they could've shut up about it, instead their old practices of promising an elephant but delivering a mouse once again caught up with them. Isn't it fairly obvious that players expected the Conan npc to make some sort of an announcement or something? He's been couped up in his throne room for one year, he's never actually an active participant in the player's quest throughout Hyboria and this anniversary thingy could've been a great excuse to make him move out of that solo-instanced throne room. Come on FC, just make Conan walk outside and say a few lines, ffs. How hard can that be?!
Actually... Conan was assisnated by FC when they launched the game.
Yeah, posts calling out the negativity on this Forum get deleted.

Take a look at Argean's post a couple above yours, you see he knew that something was planned for Tyranny but not Wiccana.
What is that mate?
Oh that's right it was a player driven event, or supposed to be, however, the clarity of the way it was put across was cloudy at best. That I can understand, but I "did" get it from reading the original posts on the forums.
If you have people playing the game and actually understanding it is player driven then why have you got people posting the day before who and what and when is going on what particular server. If it was a universal event then the same thing would happen on all servers would it not?
It is a shame that when ppl that don't play the game fail to understand the community that it is no longer part of with antiquated processes. Why are ppl so desperate for things?
As IGN states:
We were at the celebrations event!
...but the celebrations WERE NOT! Apparently, this was supposed to be a player-driven event. Even so, the disappointed people who waited for almost 2 hours for something pre-ordained to happen, were still cheerful and found a lot of joy in simple interaction. Some less mature and less patient people started badmouthing FC, but the fault lies only in an ambiguous way the ad for event has been phrased.
It's a pity that FC announced it in such a way that players thought it was supposed to be a game-mechanic event rather than DYI party. However, to avoid an even greater discontent among US players, FC decided to call the whole thing off in the US realms, but provide a bigger and greater proper game-based event in the future.
It could be that the event will coincide with 1.05 release, or it could be something else. Still, it's nice to see changes to known regions performed on-the-go. For instance, the courtyard of the castle had had new NPCs, traders and vendors to increase the feel of the festivities (it could even stay that way permanently to make up for a nice RP spot), and even bottles and benches for tavern-RPers out there.
Had FC phrased the ad differently, people'd have HEAPS of fun, and it's a lesson for the future events.
FC explained the lack of in-game event itself and plans for bigger one in the future at the forums . Tarib, CM at the official forums, has explained the reason for calling off the celebrations in this thread. Take a look at his explanation:
"Due to having this announced the wrong way, players expected the event to be more than it actually was planned to be. The actual idea was to provide players with a possibility to have player run activities in one spot for the anniversary. After having run the event on the EU servers, it was obvious that this was not announced correctly. In additon there were also technical difficulties that lead to the event not running correctly on the servers.
To prevent the same to happen on the US servers, the event will not take place.
We apologize for this and will see to it that we can come up with another event for another occasion instead."
Well, lotsa trolls here you know.
Flame wars have no winners, only losers anyways.
The only game I've seen events succeed in is Lotro and Everquest.
Why would AOC have some awesome event when the game itself is buggy?
This reminds me soooo much of the early AO "events"...where there would be some significant forum post and hype....about something which would turn out to be like 2 zone wide emotes followed by a server crash...lol.
I don't know, but I do know right now I can find an equal amount of bugs in Lotro. I can also show more server downtime for a 'clean' game, that game has the most unreliable servers ever experienced, mpvp issues that make it pointless, vista issues and so on. Fact is it is still a good game. Point is AoC is no more bugier than lotro in my experience and my families.
Why did FC do wrong here?
Well they can take two things away.
Sometimes no matter all the good intentions and wishes, technical hitches are things that can crop up and happen.
There will be new events planned and reasy for announcement over the next fortnight.
Oh damn thats right I forgot AOC had such an awesome bug free launch like LoTro, how dare i smear its fantastic running completeness.
When AoC reaches 2 years old and releases expansions or moves their servers lets hope there wont be days without being able to play and no compensation for it. I am not arguing with your point, just that, and with massive proof, it happens plenty of times in other games in our genre too. The fact is this didn't happen in the US servers, so a least they had the decency to let ppl know upfront instead of rolling with it.
So... is FunCom going to do anything about the mix-up? Or are they just going to keep moving and hope to forget about the botched up job they did on this event?
Server downtime for updates, server moves, upgrades are a normal part of mmo's also.
It's very rare an mmo gives out time for these problems, the only company I know generous of it is Blizzard.
When I cancelled AoC I had to actually call them, no way to cancel anywhere online.
When I cancelled Warhammer, the representative on the phone credited me 6 months, because I never logged in to use the account.
So I have seen many different facets of this, and to me AoC was the buggiest of any MMO, and I have pretty much played them all.
No.
We can only hope the release of 1.5 will be handled more professionally than this poor excuse called "event".
sluffing this off as player run event seems a bit of a cop out to me. I mean how hard would it have been to have some GM's giving out minor cosmetic items or maybe some health pots or something , maybe set up a hose race course with some nice prizes.etc . If getting GMs to hand them out would not work maybe just have some appear in player inventories today. I mean they had all year to work up a plan, the whole thing seems very disorganized..... but then many a time I have to wonder if there is any communications between people at the Funcom office. In the brief time I played Horizens and as bad as that game was they had a couple of decent events, or at least one I can recall.
I almost feel sorry for Funcom, I mean I can see they are trying their best but they just can't seem to get it together at all. Then they just can't seem to get thier story straight. In this thread forums-eu.ageofconan.com/showthread.php in pne place they say ohhhh you misundrstood this was justa opportunity to let you guys RP, then a few pages later they come out witth a "well we had something planned but technical difficulties arose" I mean which was it, either you screwed the pooch on the planning, or screwed the pooch on the execution, swapping stories doesn't gain you much trust and respect. A certain US politicain from California is finding that out the hard way.
I miss DAoC
Seriously.
