I agree with the OP on this one, although I wish I didn't.
I was there since day one with this game when it was teeming with life, many many people online. Bugs, lag, performance issues, character issues, etc etc etc, geez I mean threads upon threads on this stuff.
Dev team has changed over many times, even putting interims to work with SOE on this game. Slow patches and changes that just don't make any sense. For example the ranger notes on the next patch just got a nerf in the form of lower range????????????????????WTH as if the rangers weren't complaining already enough about the ranger and it's abilities, they go and nerf the range Oh man. One huge issue with this game is still the performance, there servers are what 3 years old now and it's showing, chunk lines are still an issue, you still become dismounted in a lot of areas, sometimes while you are flying. If you are on a ship and you hit a chunk line you freeze for like 3 minutes and then "no boat" it's really frustrating and this was like 3 weeks ago. Yah Vanguard does look like the most beautiful MMO out to date, but it's not very populated in ANY server and it never will because SOE refuses to spend more money on it and re-release it. I probably give this game like 2 more years if even that. By then you will have "the Old Republic" and "Guild Wars 2" which will pull more people away, say goodbye to Vanguard by then, it will be HISTORY.
I don't think you could ever find a time when the servers were more alive than now. Obviously, I know the merge from 12 to 3 PvE servers is the main factor. But players per server is very healthy, and there are players everywhere. I've played since Day 1 and started and Shirdeth and it was bustling with players all starting at level 1 and beginning their adventures. Now after the merge and during a nice revival the game feels just as busy on Seradon at the high levels as day one did on Shirdeth at the low levels.
Yep, some bugs left. Dismounting issues are a pain, they were gone, now they are back and it probably has something to do with new equipment buffs, permanent abilities, diplomatic buffs or guild hall buffs. It'll get fixed again.
Ranged rangers, yeah, I'm sure they aren't happy to get their ranges reduced, but they will be able to get them back via AAs it appears. That was clearly stated by the devs, although they didn't reveal the mechanism.
As far as performance, that is vastly improved, but you still will have to play on low settings if your PC is 4 year or older. But pretty much anything newer than 2 years old is going to run it very well. I have not heard anyone seeing chunk-lines, that might be PC related or a corrupt file.
Overall, Vanguard is in very good shape with a healthy and growing population. Still some bugs, and a couple annoying ones too. But performance is no longer and issue and the content updates have put more in the game than most people have time to complete. I play around 15 hours a week and there is now way, I can complete all the content, no way. It'll take me months to even hit the new level cap.
As far as <insert MMO of the day here> killing Vanguard? Yeah, yeah, we've heard that for over 2 years now. First it was going to be Tabula Rosa, then LotRO, then AoC, then WAR, then Darkfall, etc. etc. Vanguard will never be a mass market game like WoW and nobody that plays Vanguard cares. The 3 PvE servers are healthy and the new content keeps coming and that is just fine.

Just to let you know, this last patch pissed off alot of people over at the official forums and many are jumping ship again, take a gander over there and see how your population is again dwindling, when SOE should be focused on retaining as many as possible. The only way I would play this game if it was F2P because it's not worth it on a montly fee. There are better games that for their content and performance will give you a better experience in gameplay and for FREE. One word that SOE truly hates.

Have you played the game since the patch? There doesn't appear to be any dwindling of players to me. Forums will always have angry posts. That's where players go to voice their opinions/concerns/frustrations about the game! ANY game has angry posts on their forums, I don't care how popular or highly ranked the game is. LotRO has one of the most devoted communities I've ever seen for an MMO, but there are angry posts about aspects of the game all the time. New patches always bring out the angry posts as well because patches almost always change the game somehow.
That said, I will admit that many people who played rangers in Vanguard are upset. I will also say I think they were overpowered. Before the patch, I grouped up with a level 10 ranger on the Isle of Dawn. He was 1-shotting everything! Even red-dot mobs in the temple! That's just insane. He was even bragging about it, and flat out said rangers were overpowered. I'm sorry. People who like to play overpowered toons will always complain when their easy button gets taken away.
Current: None Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
I played vg for about 2 hours a few months back durring a soe "try b4 you buy" marketing campagne. I saw a total of 5 other people and the game was horrible. Im not sure what was worse...eq2 or vg. I made it through 5 hours of eq2 before I had enough. How anyone can play either game is beyond me. In todays society there is no way either game will be around in 5 years. Just my 2 cents.

I don't know about you but I like playing MMORPG's with a lot of people and interact with them at ANY TIME OF DAY, conversly with Vanguard that seems to only be during Primetime and usually in the Newer areas like POTA and this is BS. I can log on to Guild Wars which has been out longer than Vanguard and there is literally thousands of people online at any time of day that I can group up with. Your post is silly VG servers are usually ghost towns, once everyones done slopping down some food and watching family guy, they log on for like an hour or so around 9pm-12pm and you guys gloat that its populated, thats BS and you know it.
and since some of you wish to look up my accounts and such, why don't you look up some of my older posts how I defended this game many times in the past, I have resubbed to this game 3 times already, I have a station pass card that I activated but have since uninstalled this crap game. Say what you want, I've played this game for a year and a half straight when it came out. Cancelled resubbed cancelled resubbed and finally cancelled again. So before you open yoru piehole know what your talking about.

Good for you. It's obvious your not subscribed to the game now so quit bashing the new patch and talking about how everyone on the official forums is upset about it. Fact is your not sub'd so you can't see the offical forums therefore you have nothing to bitch about or comment on. You said your piece, you don't like the game, so quit trying to force your opinion of a game that you no longer play and probably havent played for months on everyone else. Quit trolling and find something better to do with your time.

Guess VG and eq2 just weren't your cup of tea. EQ2 is about to have it's 5th year anniversary in November and seriously I wouldn't be surprised if it was still around in another 5 years considering eq1 is 10+ years old and still around.

to me it sounds like you want a world of warcraft clone......
Thats pretty much what it is, but a bad one at that.
no, im saying to me it sounds like you want VG to be a WoW clone.
>.>
why would i want VG to be a WoW clone when it already is a WoW clone but a bad one?
and yet you say there is no reason to run dungeons because the loot sucks? Also the crafting system trumps WoW (and just about every crafting system in the market today). Diplomacy is unique (and fun) and the monsters are actually interesting to fight. The real big difference between WoW and VG is the world. VG's world is so diverse and lore heavy that many people prefer it to a game like WoW.
Anyway stupid arguments aside. Loot is important in VG it just takes longer to obtain it (half the fun) and when you do they truely are awesome. I ran the Tomb of Tsang (i cant remember the name 100% atm) many times to get my epic mace and upgrade and i will tell you it is one of the most memorable items i have ever gotten in an MMO.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds -Solid non level based game -Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
LMFAO VG is far from a WoW clone, i have tried wow and it sucks, VG is one of the best games out there. oh and i dont want to hear "if it so good why doesnt it have 15 trillion players". reason why wow has so many players is because the game can be played by any moron, VG you have to think a little at least.
Flame on
P.S. if you dont like the game stay the fuck away from it, personally i love it
I played this game when it came out and a year after it came out, there were so many bugs and glitches, the animation definately did not feel fluid and felt sticky and clunky. The graphics are overrated and feel like clay lifeless models. the dungeons and bland and they also feel like you are not advancing. like dungeons in other mmos felt like you were going futher and deeper and saw different things as you delve in deeper.
This game does not have that, even the enemies and bosses are bland so is the loot. There is really no reason to even do dungeons. In other games you can do dungeons to get better loot for that level and get good exp, in vanguard dungeons yea you can aquire exp but you get it faster if you solo, the gear is half assed and does not even scale.
it took them two years + to put in one end game raid dungeon into the game. The population is extremely low and thats being gracious as well. The servers should be labled grave yard rather than low. Vanguard is the type of game that needs a good population to enjoy, nothing like walking for a very long time and not seeing another player insight.
One positive thing about the game is that the world is indeed very huge, huge but empty.
I also played the trial isle of the game it is nothing like what you will see after the isle. It is a gimmick to get you into their sheety game.
Do your self a favor stay far away from this game, even if it was free 2 play. save your PC the harddrive space.
This game only has one use, using the CD as a coaster for my drinks.
Hey... I have an idea.
How about letting people try the game and decide for themself whether they like it or not?
Sound good?

Just a FYI, i have never subbed and i can and do read the forum there just fine.
And yes there alot of bitching going on over last patch. And to be fair there are those there that are happy with the new patch too.
I dled the trial a while back but never started it yet. Was thinking of trying it out but it seems that the devs are trying to take it back towards the more group centric game than a solo type game that i prefer.
Either way from my reading there are several bugs that need to be worked out after last patch so i will wait another week or so before i do try it if i end up doing that at all:)
Heh specialy since the ranger was what i was interested in trying out:)
ive played this games several times and the only reason why i quit was do to low population, not anything else u said, thats the reason people are not playing today the Population sucks.
Population only sucks, because maybe people realized, it wasn't a good game....
Britney Spears must be a good musical artist, because, so many people listen to her music...
What is the point of silly comments like this. Britney spears is an entertainer so complaining that she is not a great musical artist isn't a very good comparison. That is like saying WWE wrestlers are great athletes. They may be athletic and skillful, but all they are putting on is a show. None of their ability or knowledge of the "sport" plays a factor in the outcome of the match. It is all a prepackaged show, much like Brittney is.
There has to be a reason why the population is so low. The population can't be so low as a result of itself. That is effectively what people are saying when they make that comment.

The Pop is Low Because the Devs are constantly Breaking things they fixed.
Have No People to Fix all the Bugs.
Ignore the playerbase when It crys Foul.
Remove the things that make Vanguard Diffren't from every other mmo out there.
Won't Advertise the game.
Refuse to Lissen to the player base when they say go this way, Not that way (Or it takes a Crapload of arm twisting and even then Im sure its only because Enough Devs agree with us)
Oh and they made Leveling so fast they had to give us a "No Exp. Buff" so we wouldent out lvl the Quest while we were dooing it.
Oh and this wasent 100% at you by any meens.. It was just a Tyrade that poped out.
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. He was even bragging about it, and flat out said rangers were overpowered. I'm sorry. People who like to play overpowered toons will always complain when their easy button gets taken away.
Currently Playing: Toying around with AoC and bored with Darkfall
Thinking of Playing: Fallen Earth or Darkfall after this months update.
Have Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, Vanguard, EvE, Requiem, PW, Lotro, Lineage2, AoC, SWG...
Guess VG and eq2 just weren't your cup of tea. EQ2 is about to have it's 5th year anniversary in November and seriously I wouldn't be surprised if it was still around in another 5 years considering eq1 is 10+ years old and still around.

-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
VG is the best EQ Version on the market. No clue why someone would label it as Wow-Clone. Totally silly.

Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.
