Read it all there. Apparently "Sakura Park" was such an original and creative name, that more than 150 people used it, and instead of the 3 beta invites, everyone who used "Sakura" in their park name will now get an invite into beta.
Way to support creativity and originality eh?

Muahahah XD

People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
Glass half empty, glass half full. If a large enough number said it. Why not make it so. 150 out of how many entries? 600 is 25% of the people. If 20% or more actually said it why not?
That's the way I
viewed it at least.
Oh I forgot 2000 votes with 150 of them 13% which is a large number of them.
Actually, I believe its 7.5%
200 would be 10%, thus 100 would be 5%, so the medium would be 7.5%
And the issue behind it is the rules were "Creativity and connection to what was posted".
I bet you not many knew what Sakura trees really meant or were used for, but knew the word and used it just cause it sounded "Japanese". Also, it's completely uncreative and unoriginal. Did the name fit? Yeah I guess if you know what they mean, but like I said, most probably didn't.
A majority of the 1850 or so that didn't win aren't happy with the results because they feel lied to. They read the rules, and most likely like I did, first thought "Sakura Park", but because the rules said Creativity was one of the major points behind who wins, we didn't go with that. Been said multiple times. And, just to show how unoriginal the name was, 150+ people got beta keys instead of only 3, because they had "Sakura" in their park names.
Am I mad I didn't get a key? No not really, I figured I wouldn't win. I am mad though, that they blatently went with "popularity" instead of creativity, directly against their rules. They claim they didn't know the number of people who used "Sakura Park", but to me, that is a lie. They had a supposed "Top Ten" list, but so far refuse to show it. I want to see what competition that name had, that made it look clearly more original.
Brb, getting this guy some tissues.
(P.S., I submitted "The Willowy Esplanade" specifically to try and be unique/creative - it's a bit lame that it went to such an uncreative submission, yea - but meh.)
I have to agree, sounds like sour grapes to me that someone didn't get a beta key from a competition.
I know you said you don't care, but we all know everyone wants to get into a beta, otherwise why enter the competition in the first place.
P.s way to go those lucky ppl that got into the beta, least Cryptic made alot more than 3 ppl very happy when they spread the beta love, shame you couldn't see the positive over your negative view of the outcome.
It was the same people crying in three or four different threads... there are alot of babies on the CO boards.
Eh, I could care less really. I've applied for several betas, so not getting into one just means more time for others. And while I would love to be able to say "cognrats" to the winners, they only "won" because of the lack of originality. If they just stuck with the 3, it would be alright. Sure the name is unoriginal, and I'd of rolled my eyes at it whenever I see it, but I wouldn't be so angry as to say something about it. I would of found it funny in a way. Maybe the person posting it hoped that everyone else wouldn't post it because it seemed so unoriginal, and went with something else, so when the devs saw it, they would of think "Wow, it may not be the most creative, but it slips off the tongue easily and is easily identifiable."
Hell, if they just didn't say anything about it publicly, it would of been alright. We didn't need to know "about 10% of you said Sakura Park so guess what, anyone who used sakura wins! ", like something out of oprah. They really brought it onto themselves this time. And trust me, if you think I'm bad, read through the posted topic, there's extremes for both sides. You got the ones attacking the entire team, and ones sucking some major arse, and is clear who won and didn't.
@Stan. Well, its more or less been consolidated to the one topic, some have moved on, some haven't. Some can joke about it, some are taking it way too seriously. I've said what I felt needed to be said on the topic there, so until something pops up, I relegated myself to sarcasm and jokes on it.
As for Lord, thats how I felt, and one thing the devs haven't answered is the people who used true english, not Romaji, for the answer. You win for Sakura, but what about what it means? Did people who used "Cherry blossom" or "Cherry Tree" get one too? Seems a bit unfair if they didn't, since its the same word.
And I don't really need tissues, real men use sandpaper :P
Lol, what a stupid misstake.
But it is nothing to be really upset about, the reason I wont play the game is instead that you cant play bad in it so if I feel for superhero action, it will probably be in DCU. Hmm, maybe a henchman for the Joker?
Anyways, anyone could make a misstake like this, even though you can count a big percentage from Japan will name themselves Sakkura something, and maybe manga fans will too.
The most villanous thing you can do, is make a nemesis once you hit 30, cap is 40 if I remember right. I do remember though that before they said you could make a personal villian that will pop up during your career, wish it stayed that way, instead of making it more of a "end-game" concept.
As for the Sakura thing, I actually expect anyone with even a hint of the japanese language will use more original names. Its the Otakus (Or weabos, whatever that word is and wherever it came from, personally I hear weabos, and I think of those fun toys I had as a child, the ones with really round, weighted bottoms and couldn't be knocked over, but now I'm going off topic heh). And I bet you, Sakura will either be a pink-haired ninja-lookin girl, or some generic school-girl.
And I'll add this in real quick, not every name I heard that had sakura in it was bad. "Senbon Sakura", thousand cherry blossoms, yes yes if anyone has seen Bleach that sounds familiar, but its better than just "Sakura". Also read one that the person had posted in actual japanese, dont know if they won or not, but it was an alright name, if a little long-winded.

I know, how dare you post while at work!
This is a place for slackers, so don't come in here during work and post, it makes us non-working slackers look bad!
and yep, all about a hero game, someone wants to be a champion, but its hard to be a champion when 150 become a champion at the same time :P
Yes how dare I.
3 day weekend woo hoo!
So they are OK with a park named after one of the more popular Japanese porn stars?
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy.

that makes me sad more to come i think.
Huh... I did not know that...
I thought of Sakura from SF
Sakura from Naruto
Sakura from Card Captors
The tree
the park in NYC
But I didn't know there was a japanese porn star named Sakura though...
Thanks for the info!
If anyone who knows more about horticulture would care to comment, that would be great... But If you look closely at that picture, those dont seem to be cherry trees, they look a lot more like pink dogwoods... So calling it cherry blossom seems a little off to me.

Well it's not exactly a completely unique name in Japan but I'm sure there are a few hundred Ron Jeremys in the US. You tend to know who your talking about when you say it.

True, but then again we only know THAT "Ron Jeremy" because he's been on TV, done a rap song, and well... I don't think I have to say anything more on why people might know who he is...
"Sakura"...make some great drawing and technical ink pens....the company..not the blossoming trees.
oh yah, forgot about those too, thanks XD
