Why I think the xp-debt system should be altered + excuse list

ValaraukValarauk Member Posts: 303

I didn't mind the "debt" system per say but being penalized horribly because a groupmember in route to camp doesn't know how to avoid enemies or a goupmember decides to go afk without warning, etc seems poorly implemented. More than half my debt came from groupies making stupid mistakes/ not paying attention and nearly always they were beyond my range of sight let alone my ability to help/save. I think the system would work alot smoother if groupmembers deaths added debt only when you were in close proximity to the group.

I remember one time I was invited to a gnoll group on the S. Coast of Antonica some 5 minutes run from the N. Qeynos gate and within 30 seconds all five of them had wiped on a bad spawn. Then what happens? The healer logs, the tank goes to group with friends and the other members promptly disband and begin shouting LFG while I'm left even farther in debt. That was the worst instance but certainly not the only in which I felt shafted hardcore by the xp-debt system.

There are tons of other ways people seem to find to put you farther into the red. Some of their apparent favorites:

Falling off high places (lag did it, honest!!::::07::)

Training tons of crap to camp w/ out warning (We coulda taken that!)

AFK durring pull (Doorbell rang guys sorry, we got a rez coming?)

Distraction (Sorry dude, was on the phone with my GF. Could you bring me some food/water while your in the city?)

mez breaking (errrr, assist him with what?)

You guys wanna add any to my list?

Lol, that is exactly why I will NEVER group with anyone other than my Guildies or those I know that are good.

One visit to Fallengate and 30 minutes later with 100% XP debt (never died once), made me think that way. But I still like the debt experience idea. Don't asky me why lol...i just do

There are always ways in which you can lose exp due to the mistakes, stupidity, or intentional acts of groupmates.  It really isn't any big deal.  If you let the same person continue to cost you exp that's your fault.

The death penalty in EQ2 is minor - almost trivial in my view.  As far as I am concerned, it should be a lot worse.  A bigger ante on the table makes the game more exciting, as it was in EQ1.  People want everything to be too easy and painless anymore.
