I've played WoW since launch in '05, and am getting sick of it. Actually, I've been sick of it since WotLK hit. I've always been an endgame raider and not much of a PvPer. I'm currently raiding Ulduar (the hardest content out right now), but I am getting bored. I'm looking for a new game. Aion looks promising, but I want to try something else out in the mean time. I want a game that:
1. Has end-game content that isn't accessible to everyone (level cap, etc.) and that requires an organized group to complete.
2. Decent PvP aspect, but not so much that it takes over the game
3. Rewards for being "good" (ex. epics). and no "welfare epics"
4. Fun additions such as Titles or Achievements in WoW
5. Mounts, especially flying. Or a way to fly
6. A large amount of active players
7. Its own quirks that make it unique
Does anyone have an suggestions?

so you basicly want to play world of warcraft as long as its not called world of warcraft...
^^ what he said.
not a flame here...but you have basicly just described warcraft without saying i want to play warcraft.
this my freind is called addiction..and when i first gave it up i had the same thoughts..i wanted to play a game like wow...but not wow..and i totaly get where your comeing from
but ill throw this at you...go back to the "throw the rule book out" idea..and try something totaly left wing..so much outside the box that the box looks like a dot...something you thought you would never play...just to try...like WAR..i know it gets flamed but it was a totaly diffirent for me than wow and i was happy with it for a while
just an idea for you
i fell your pain m8..this is a cry for help (no sarcasim indended)
Sounds very much like your describing Aion, give the Chinese/Korean a version a go and if you like it then be patient and wait for the NA/EU release like the rest of us.
I guess you're right. I want to try a new game, but is organized and has lots of things to do like WoW. And not some cheap f2p game that is on its deathbed in terms of activity. Just something that is addicting just like WoW : )
sadly there is nothing in the market right now that goes that way except wow
achivment wise i would say WAR is closest and for something similar i would say GW and aion
you could always try cutting down the amount you play wow and see where it leads you..i found that by cutting down the hours i was not sat in my chair stood in the middle of irnforge looking at the AH..i was active again..getting back to the gym..and my art work and writeing..and soon i jsut seen wow for what it really was
just another option for you to look at m8
Reading that sentence I can already judge your mentality... stick to WoW (dont take it as an insult),you can always rename your WoW shortcut and mod the WoW screens to pop another name like "World Of Ripoff" and such.
I could write several paragraphs on what's wrong with #3. I'd really suggest losing that mentality if you want to be more open-minded and enjoy games more.
But anyway I won't... Warhammer Online meets most of the points you made (aside from #5, unless you count the brief travel sequences as ways to fly) and Aion when it comes out will meet all your points (some of which it surpasses WoW on, and some it doesn't). You could play in Aion Chinese Retail with the English patch at the moment and it (should) be far cheaper than playing on the English client anyway.
Warhammer Online. It should be well within your comfort zone.
The ruptured capillaries in your nose belie the clarity of your wisdom.
My recomendation is to wipe your mind mmorpg wise before trying anything else. If you look for something like wow you will never be satisfied and there are a lot of "not-wow" games out there that you can play and have fun.
As a list of games, I would recomend you the ones i like/liked:
Lord of the rings online. People say is really similar to wow, I dont know never played wow.
EverQuest 2. it has tons of end game content.
Vanguard. It feels diferent for me.
Dungeons and dragons online. Little good game for me.
Age of Conan. Nice melee, poor armor desing. Is not as bad as people say but you need a good computer.
I felt like trolling, calling you a noob and such, but I've realized that it's not your fault. My friend, just like you, can't stop playing WoW even though he hates it. He will go on and on about how awesome the game is, but all he does is grind and solo quests. It's a shame that WoW has spoiled all my friends. I know there is no game like WoW. The closest to WoW would be the free Runes of Magic. I remember that I tried GW (Guildwars) after Kal Online. God what a nostalgic game that it is to me. You should give it a go.
Though if you're really spoiled by WoW and just want WoW but with another theme..try some custom private server. I mean I played Ani-WoW back when it was awesome. Raid 24/7, mass PvP, finding new exploits, bothering GMs..all good fun
Just wait for Aion or try out the Chinese Retail...
Aion is not exactly what your looking for either... but I doubt you will find a game like what you are looking for really.
aion an asian grinder the quests only last till level 20 or so the rest needs to be grinded out........
i totaly agree with what everyone has said on this thread but also m8 look at the posibility of stopping for a while reflecting on what you want.
warcraft...or something new.
i know it sounds stupid etc but wow has been reconised as a real addiction and haveing sufferd and my life from world of warcrack i know all too well the implications of playing the game and the affect it has on others aswell as yourself and mental state.
just reflect a little on what you want most.
and on a lighter side..the wow killer is comeing
Your Info is so wrong on so many levels.
There was a dead area around the late 30s that had to grinded out... but that fixed with a patch that add more quests.
everquest 2 sounds great for you i actually think you'll have enough content to not get bored there, and since it's almost june it should last you all the way up to their next expansion.
It is so similar to wow, it's almost like it's alternate game eq2 for older wow for younger.. It's wierd but I've met many 16-20 year olds who used to play wow "grew up" and moved to eq2.
I played WoW for a long time myself. I quit recently, and honestly have little/no desire to go back. I've been going through games lately, checking out new MMORPGs, P2P and F2P alike. Recently I've been testing Vanguard during it's 14 Day Free Trial, which is downloadable off the site and requires no credit card to apply. It's fun so far, I recommend it.

Aion is a wholly grindworthy game. Now, it does look good and all, but it's a grind.
Meanwhile, I'd throw out Eve if it matched, but it doesn't. Even Aion would be worth looking. To be truthful, no new game really challenges World of Warcraft for the masses - mostly Wow has people now just because it has people, basically. Lots of other games are popular and plenty of people enjoy though. Vanguard might be a thought if your PC can take it. Many of the games mentioned in the thread are pretty good suggestions for what you want.
Remember, wow is a grind too really, all games are lately, it's just a question of how they hide it.

Have you played the Korean version of the game? Because that's what we will be getting, if not, you're not capable to say anything.
