I played WoW for about 3 years off and on, never really got into the raiding side of it all etc. and many times ahve i tried new mmorpg's to replace, only to be sucked back in. I ahve been 9 months off it now, and don't think I will go back.
The problem I have is i'm really into the quality of a game. It can have all the ideas and innovations in the world, but if it is buggy, laggy, slow, and has choppy animations, i just can't stand it. I need a reasonably polished game.
PLEASE, i need recommendations! I spent the last 3 months playing single player RPGs, so dont recommend that. I don't need a break from mmo's, I just had a 9 month one hehe, i only like playing a game where I am constantly working towards something (mmo's)
So yeah... f2p or p2p (i cant see any good p2p atm)
I've tried WAR and AoC when they 1st came out, and yeah.... yeah.........
I'm a pvper at heart, but enjoy questing etc. too.
MEANINGFUL PvP is a huge plus.
PS - tried Runes of Magic, the popular f2p, but just couldnt get into it. Not polished enough for me, and i really HATED having to level 2 classes...

Wait for the next round of releases. You've tried WAR and AOC. From your post I doubt you'll find a home in Aion or Darkfall. Aion has been described as WoW with wings and doesn't meet the PvP criteria you are looking for, and Darkfall doesn't meet the quality criteria.
Champions Online, TOR, Star Trek, etc. are among the next round of releases, although none of them have promised great PvP. Probably the best you can do is wait and see if one of them is any good.
If pvp were taken out of the equation, what would you recommend?
I love good combat, which kinda ruled out EVE for me also.
Except for the PvP, I'm with ya. Looks DO matter to me, tho lotta folks here will claim otherwise.WAR was the only PvP I ever enjoyed, but yes it got repetitive. I don't think there is a game that fits both your criteria : PvP and great looking other than WAR and AoC. Especially "meaningful" PvP. DAoC has RvR that I hear is really good. But it is an older game, so might not meet your demands on looks.Vanguard looks very nice, but don't know about PvP. Good luck with this. Why doesn't a game like this come easily to mind?

What is your definition of "good combat". Kinda a broad statement. Twitch based? TCoS has interesting combat, different anyway, not for everyone, including me. Vanguard has a lot of skills, but I am loathe to recommend a game that seems to be dying. Yep, the next round of games might be what you have to wait for. In the next 12 months or so, there are gonna be an INSANE amount of MMO choices.
Meh, i kinda mean, fast, action packed combat. rather than click and let the %'s work it all out for ya.

You tired all the triple A stuff like Lotro, Eq2, Vanguard, AOC?
What about F2p like Atlantica or Requiem?
Guild wars is really good also, have you tried that?
Have you messed with Spellborn?
What about the older MMOs like DAoC or FinalFantasy XI?
So many MMO kick WoWs ass in so many different features.

I don't understand do you want Twitch combat or basic Rpg combat like WoW, EQ2 and WAR?

give aoc another go, if actually own a game, month sub isnt that much, and game greatly improved

There's nothing similar between Aion's and WoW's PvP...other than factions.
