Or even better, a Zoids MMO. I think Mechwarrior lacks in a few areas that a Zoids theme would pick up on in terms of MMO appeal. Such as the always prevalent MechWarrior cheese factor when outfitting certain mechs.
Yes, Im would sign up for a MMORPG based on the Mechwarrior series. I still play Mech battles at Dave & Busters (adult arcade). It is great fun with the different style mechs. Add in some outofmech experiences and it could work. More gigantic robots blowing the world up...less bodacious, digitally enhanced, humanly impossible elf teets.
Sorry kids for that one but its past your bedtime -well its at least past the time when T.O. was shown having a romp before his Monday Night Football game agianst the Cowboys! War Disney / ABC!
There already is a Mech warrior MMO out, its called Planetside....
Those who have played it recently will know what I mean...
------------------------------ You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
Uhh... not really. Besides, just play Planetside. They addded mechs to the game now. Apperantly they are very hard to obtain, but once you do get one, they are HUGE!!!!!!!

Tell me that after a heavy mech toasts you in one shot with 4 PPC lasers at once.
Making a MW MMO would require a bastardization of how the current games play for it to be feasible. Something that I have a hunch would upset many MW diehards. MW has one of the oldest geek followings out there (not counting the series that spawned MW), that sort of thing requires velvet gloves.
Hey folks, I've spent the past few months compiling data in reference to creating a BattleTech/MechWarrior MMORPG. Currently I'm developing the "gameplay" and storyline to base this MMORPG on. I find it interresting to see how many people would like to see this game created, and so little interest from any of the "big guys".
Electronic Arts attempted to launch a BattleTech MMORPG in late 1999 to early 2000, but it fell on it's face during Beta because the interface and interaction within the game was poorly designed. While my project is still in the Development Stage, I am excited about bringing this world to life on such a large scale. I've been a BattleTech/BattleDroid nut since I was a child (Yes, the first release of the BattleTech Boardgame was called BattleDroids).
Here are some pretty nifty facts:
There are approximately 300,000 players of "Classic BattleTech" boardgames
There are around 2000 BT/MW User Sites being actively managed independantly
There are at least 30 versions of BT being played online (Board game or java based)
Once my team gets all of the major details worked out and the gameplay established, it will be interresting to see how quickly I get crushed by Microsoft and WizKids... As it stands currently, my game will be based after the fall of the Clan and will allow for quite a bit of non Mech-based gameplay. If it becomes reality, well.... all I can say is: It's about time.

Sounds cool! <notices he is in D.C.> <Must be creating mechs for the department of defense>!!
Seriously, would be interesting if you could make a renegade clan who's mechs are more voltronish/zoidish, to represent the animals the clans represent. I mean imagine a innersphere mech jocky looking up and seeing a mech bear, or panther bearing down on his @ss.
A REAL Mechwarrior MMORPG, oh yes. That is, built on the Mechwarrior RPG, with both ground combat, normal personal adventuring as well as climbing up in your newly aquired mech for some heavy combat. If they just build a normal mech simulator and make it MMO then its not that special, but making it the real Mechwarrior RPG would be outstanding and beat anything on the market today.
Possible? Not likelly. It is just too big and complex. But if some daredevil did it, then it would be the next revolution.
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force"
Well, consider me a daredevil. I've been playing EQ for 5 years now, and am growing tired of all the D&D type games. Here are some of the things I've come up with so far:
Each House and/or faction is governed by a paid GM/Developer
Upon starting the game, you are allowed to choose between Legion or Merc based play
You will most definately NOT be tied to your Mech, you will be allowed to roam free.
The game will be driven by Class 3 rules, some which will have to be modified of course.
Teamspeak is built into the game, allowing real-time communication between battles.
Missions will be available at all times: Recon, Salvage, H&K, etc...
Mercenaries will be allowed an extensive array of options to pursue
New content will be added, based on REAL battle outcomes. Worlds will change hands, perhaps Entire regions.
Without giving TOO much away, I've seriously invested about 300 hours into the playability of the game. While this is just a breath-in-the-wind right now, I hope I can maintain focus and make this a reality. If anyone is interrested in assisting with content development, gameplay advancement and/or lore please feel free to send me an email. Not to get anyone too excited, but I hope to have something at least semi-viable (on paper that is) within the next 6 months. Licensing, now that's another monster I have yet to pursue.
I just happened along on this post as I was doing background research.. Maybe some big-shot game developer will beat me to the punch, but I think it's worth giving it a shot!

IF it isn't like the LAG in MechWarrior 4 where people exiting and entering the game gave "slideshows" then yes.
Otherwise NO!
