DAOC pve!?!?!

I just got done reading a few posts on this game, and there were a few complaining about the pve.  The complaints were about the difficulty and speed of levels, the difficulty of completing some quests, the fact that there are certain things that you need to save up for at higher levels and are nearly impossible to get until you are high levels, the fact that there are a few populated areas but in some areas the world was so huge that it would almost seem empty at times other than the occasional passer by and it's hard to find a decent group but alot of times you need a good well balanced group to do things.  These are complaints, but I'm thinking to myself, Awesome, sounds like the early days of daoc!

I remember it took people a long time to finally reach 50, and even after there were a few 50's on the server it still took people a long time.  The thing was (at the time) the world seemed so huge and so neat looking that it felt like a mini adventure every time you went out to kill a new mob in a new area.  You also were way better off grouping in certain areas, you couldn't even kill certain mobs without a group and sometimes if you could they'd be in groupsof 10 or 20 that would BAF and you needed a group or a clear path to run away if to many mobs came or one respawned on top of you.

All I know is I had a ton of fun getting to 50 in daoc. And if I ever got bored I'd start and alt in another realm...cause it seemed like a different game fighting different mobs. I've got to wait to get my new computer, but honestly I've been waiting years for a new daoc and if this game is the new PVE daoc then sign me up.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Tree group for hours on end, that or drakulv group.

They just don't make it good anymore like daoc did do they?

I played DaoC and loved it, but was addicted to EQ1 at the time, so I didn't play as much as I would have liked to.  That said, Vanguard has phenomenal class and race differentiation, everyone is unique with various subclasses.  Leveling to 50 is a challenge and leveling to 55 is an even bigger challenge.  :)  You can level multiple toons and not do any of the same content until you hit level 48.

I've been looking into this game recently as well in my eternal quest for the perfect mmo. Is there still a good player base?

Thats the only problem with DAoC, the player base.

The game is solid, and the rvr is fantastic if only it had the numbers it used to have in the past.

RvR just doesn't function without players.

To answer your question, player base is minimal.

Shure... I edited your post, obviously :D

But when I am at a place that I don't expect anyone to be at and all of a sudden some rides past it is almost as something that I. Uhm don't know what to say here really... Twitter material?

It's fun and one wonders what the heck does that person do here? Now?

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

The game certainly isn't perfect but if want an old school mmo akin to EQ and Daoc with  massive world thats mean and scary this is for you. The player base is not minimal, i cant understand why people are saying that, ok im only level 20 at the moment but i've pretty much grouped from level 5 with out effort and im always seeing people and talking to people.

From reading your post Durton , I think you would really enjoy VG and the population is fine and has seen a strong surge in the past 6 weeks lotsa of new people enjoying the game ...Give it a try ..

Either Seradon or Xeth if you're in North America. If you're in Europe, try Halgar. There's only one PvP server, Sartok, but it's not as populated I hear.

Alright, thanks guys, I think I'll give the trial a go. Any last things I should know before I jump in?

The game might run crappy at first. Even after adjusting the in-game settings, it might not run as well as you expect. If it doesn't, do a search for vgclient.ini tweaking. I was frustrated with how bad VG played on my comp until I messed with mine. Now it looks and runs fantastic.

Take your time and try out all three major spheres: adventuring, crafting and diplomacy.

There is a lot of texture caching that happens when you first log in and visit new areas, but that will smooth out quickly.  Enjoy!

Seradon is the place to be, waiting on my 50 Paladin from Sartok to be transfered over as I type this. The PVP server "Sartok" had like 28 players total about at the start of prime time. Seradon is just flat out jammed, it is nice.
