Talk about Nexus: The Kingdoms Of The Winds

personally, i dont know how anyone would pay for this game. The graphics are terrible, the game design is boring, and the charactors look like they where created by a 3 year old! honestly, if your thinking of getting this game, look and the screenshots and then i strongly advise that you say no to it

The game is awesome. Don't care about the graphics of it. I preffer much more these old graphics that remind me of Snes time than the 3D mega detailed games with no real content besides the graphical aspects.

Actually considering everything, to me this game has one of the best designed community models of all MMORPGs I played. Obviously a game from '97 isn't going to give you state of the art graphics or the possibilities included in a 3D engine but for 2D graphics they're fine and used to be topnotch SNES style graphics. The only things I recommend Nexus TK for are the tools provided to be a true member of another universe (having an impact) and despite it's flaws the political structure of the world the players operate in.

I think that you shouldn't comment on the graphic's of the game, intill you look at the updated graphic's. This site doesn't even have the recent graphics of them game. Go to www.nexustk.com or www.nexusatlas.com , and look at the recent Screen shots.

I think that nexustk is one of the best , maybe even the best 2D MMORPG thats out there.

This game was awesome back when I played it like 6-7 years ago.  I left because it started to suck, the graphics were dated, and it was full of little kids and stat-levelers.  But if you can get into the roleplaying part of it, the subpaths are (or were, I dont know) great.  The clans were great too, they didn't let the dumb people in those (well sometimes, but then they got kicked out).  The GMs sucked though, starting with kismet.

If you like to roleplay, might try it out.  The community is great.  I'm in the screenshots for the game, Im one of the dudes with spears in the Buyan army pic

Go to www.nexusatlas.com and check out the forums there if you actually want discussion on Nexus.  Don't whine about the graphcs, those on MMORPG.com are dated to the current client, not to mention Nexus is the OLDEST graphical MMO in existence and if I'm not mistaken the first ever, created by Nexon Korea way back in the early to mid 90's.  What we have now is its own version in America.

I played Nexus for many years and still maintain my characters there.  Every once in a while, I pay for a month's subscription and drop in to say hi to old friends.  The best thing about Nexus for me now is that you don't have to have an auto-renewing subscription.  So, as I'm usually bored to tears before the month expires, I have the comfort of knowing I won't automatically be billed for a continuing subscription.

Gameplay is very linear through level 99.  All characters evolve the same within their class.   However, you don't stop at level 99.  Now you can exchange your experience for stat points and although you can evolve your character in any way you want stat-wise, there are of course, preferences for certain classes (i.e., warriors always want more strength).

Gameplay mechanics are elementary.  Don't expect much there.  The player base is a little on the young side these days leaving most adults starved for mature conversation and company.  No offense to you youngsters, but you're not interested in hearing about my grandkids or arthritis any more than I'm interested in hearing about your teenage angst or latest report card.

If you like community involvement, however, there are plenty of opportunities both in clans and in player-run subpaths.  These groups are integral to the social life of Nexus, planning various games and role-play events for the community, etc.  The company is also very involved with the game, planning special events for each holiday.  There's always something special going on in the Nexus (or else the community weeps).

Most of the events require unraveling a baffling series of steps - who to talk to next, figuring out what you need to complete the next step, where to go, what to do, mazes to fumble through, etc.  You can be in the vanguard of players who struggle to figure it all out or among those who pick up the walkthru from the nexusatlas web site and follow in their footsteps, so to speak.

Other fun activities include the carnages - massive pvp events held every day in the arenas.  Two to four randomly selected (but semi-balanced) teams engage in up to 3 rounds of combat.  Prizes to the winning team.

If you're not up to time requirements of the bigger mmos or if you have a low-end machine that just won't handle those huge 3-D worlds, and you're not put off by anime-type avatars, Nexus might be a choice to consider.

This was my 2nd MMO game I've ever played.. first being Dark Ages. I had a really crappy PC back then and it couldn't really handle Dark Ages (haha) but Nexus played smoothly.

My 2 brothers, sister and I were hooked on this game and it made me an mmorpg fan for life.

I played the game a few years ago, and it was one of the best I have ever played. I had a Level 99 Poet, I think named TheDuke that was one of my favourite characters I have played in any game (Ive played 10s of RPGs). The player run subpaths were excellent, I was in the process of training to be a Monk, when I quit the game to start playing DAoC. I met friends in that game that I still play RPGs with now. The community is awesome.  And the roleplaying isnt even visible in todays games.

I dont have any problem with the graphics I care much more for gameplay and enjoyment then graphics. I dont know if I would still enjoy the game today, but it was one of the best I have played. Im still trying to find a game that can compete with the level of enjoyment I used to have playing this game,

Not bad as a chatroom. The game itself is nothing but leveling. GMs are totally inactive and the current GM was a former secretary lol, you get the picture, someone that had nothing to do and got the job. She works from her home most of the time and she loves to create pathetic RP events. Just try it for fun and try to avoid any contact with archons/Judges etc. They do abuse their powers.
  • ErucolindoErucolindo Member Posts: 2
Actually, you are a bit outdated, they totally re-hauled the graphics and the entire Archon/GM team was disbanded and replaced by some awesome ones.  Current GM, mug does at least one update a week, and actively acts upon requests for new things from the player-base.  While the identity of the Archons is kept strictly confidential, its assumed that this current GM is from waaaaaaay back in nexus history, during some of the best times ever.  He certainly reminds me of a particular one.  But yes, previously, the GMs/Archons sucked, and they all got fired.

As for judges abusing their powers... ummm, not really.  They don't have much power to be honest.  They can only enforce laws that have been set down since the beginning, such as profanity, stealing, the basics.  And unless there is proof of a crime being commited, they wont do anything, you need a screen shot of someone swearing at you.   Also, the punishments are pretty cut and dry and there are specific jail sentences for specific crimes.  I for one have never once been accused of a crime in Nexus, let alone jailed, and most of the people who complain about it are immature repeat offenders who can't go 5 minutes being around other people without swearing.

I've been playing the game for quite a few years, and I must say its phenomenal now.  They have free trial up to level 50, and there are multple Subpaths and Clans or Armies you can join once you register at level 50.  I for one NEVER hunt, I've been at the same low stats for over a year now, but there is so much more to do in this game, I've never felt like I was cheated out of anything..

If anyone tries it out, give me a shout, I'm the Colonel of the Buyan Imperial Army ;-)

The thing about this game and its fanbois is that its not about the graphics. If you are someone who is all about the graphics and you must have the WoW or EQ2 type graphics to be able to enjoy a game then honestly you arent a real mmo'er. This game is the Epitomy of an mmorpg, Its fully online and its about the Roleplaying and the Community Involvment. I have played this game since it came out of beta about 9 years or so ago. I have had the same character and have watched the game evolve into what it is now. Yes like every game it has had its up and downs but even when the game gets boring and you quit playing you eventually figure out that it has had a great effect on you and you ALWAYS come back. Its like online Crack..... I love this game and has taught me that its not all about graphics, Its more about the Gamplay, Story-line, and community interaction that makes an MMO. If this is what you want in a game then I seriously recommend NexusTK.

I played this game for 3 years (as a poet), starting in 98, and since then ive come back every now and then to check things out.

I must say its not as good as it used to be. It used to be kind of unique, in that its main combat system after a certain point (around SW or so) consisted of a very fun one hit kill system. Where you basically entered a room, the mage set everything up, and the warriors/rogues used their vita/mana based attacks to one-shot things. It was neat. You floated around from mob to mob instantly killing some of them, then you waited for the skills to recharge. There was just something epic about it.

That all changed however. At first slowly when they introduced the NPC subpaths and rage and cunning. That made just 'hitting' something, the boring old way everyone fights from level 1, a good idea no matter how powerful you where. Then they did things like add things like those to the PC subpaths as well, and end up putting in horrible weapons like polearms (which are overpowered). And now you have a system where grabbing some rogues or a do to just stand there whacking a hastily clumped up group of enemies (mages don't need as much skill as they used to require) at things in stealth with a polearm, and the poets becoming lazy and not even accustomed to the warriors zerking/wwing on aethers, and its just become disgusting.

It used to be that if you where a powerful warrior. You could just walk around with out any items on, just a spring garb/blouse or whatever, and kill things with your hand, it looked like you where just slapping them but then suddenly those old slashes appeared around them and they where dead. It was really cool. But now everyone fights different, and items and equipment have become important no matter how powerful you are. Its just boring, its another generic 'whack stuff, get loot' game now, instead of a beautiful expression of grace and power where you walked around killing things with your own life essence wearing nothing at all, because you where just that powerful.

The 'flow' of a good 3 man team (poet+warrior+mage, sorry rogues - the only one id team with by choice is xentry, and only because i played a lot with his warrior before he rolled that rogue up =p) back in the day was exhilarating.

Another good game ruined. Im sure people like it now, ive played the 'new' nexus and its not really 'bad', its just that its nothing like it used to be, and playing it now just makes me remember how awesome it used to be.

Also, the new graphics don't look anywhere near as good as the old ones. The old ones just looked like generic sprites, but the new ones look like playdough.

The subpaths don't mean anything anymore. And the Shadows are the only ones that have managed to maintain any dignity. (because they disbanded instead of submitted to this crap)

Lastly the new alignment (though i suppose they aren't really 'new' as they've been out for years now, but meh) spell graphics still arent as good as the unaligned originals=P Thankfully as a poet i did not really need to have the lower aethers that they gave.

This game still has the best 'end game' concept of any mmo ive played (EQ style raid stuff is just replacing one game with another, better to just keep the game the same). They just made the combat boring because its no where near as impressive as it used to be.

One could never truly understand how dynamic and amazing this game is unless they delve deep into it.

It was once incredible, now it is untapped potential, as if it is devolving.

It is the community that gives it life, and the combat is better than pretty much any mmo I've played.

What wild dog stuff? I don't know what this is about, try the game for yourselves and give it time, I mean I've always been a proponent for the idea that every game is good if you give it enough time, but in the end people want "quick to get into" games. A lot of those who love playing NexusTK do so because they've been playing it since way back when.

I started on runescape classic, then runescape2, then dark ages, then nexus.

I have to say, it is my favorite game of all time.

This game has fun grinding, and you can, after 99, buy stats (might, etc.), which the level they go up increases after each san (il san, ee san, etc.)

And you have prerequisites for vitality and mana.

If it says 80/40 for enchanted, you get either 80,000 vitality or 40,000 mana..which isn't as hard as it may seem.

The game is definitely not judgeable by the graphics.

The community is great. You always run in to your old friends.

I wouldn't bother playing this one for those who don't already have a character made and waiting at a decent level.  I started playing TK sometime back in 1998 and have got to say that all the add-ons and updates have ruined the game. The community is awsome and every once in a while I re-reg to say hi and see what has happened to this piece of MMO history.

Warriors = DPS.  Most prefered hunting/grinding fighter. (stats required of course with high rage/sr ((1,000,000+ vita/200,000 mana)) after a while you'll be dragging 2 to 4 healers after you just to support your attacks.

Rogues = DPS/Pker  Not nearly as good as a warrior in pve but a great Boss hunter and duo'er witha poet(healer) if you can get one away from the warriors who need 2 or more. PK ability is awsome, can triple stack attacks and take out more powerful opponents..if you can find a poet(healer) to get the stats to do more then tickle the buff warriors/mages/poets.

Mage = DPS/CC With abilities such as Paralize, Blind, Debuff spells, Sleep spells, and a slew of long range attack spells that can 1 shot mobs is easily the most rewarding path to play. Also one of the hardest to play but after a while you can just grab a poet and duo for good exp per hour and relax but exp wont match warrior/poet/mage.

Poet = Healer/Buffer/Debuffer and the ONLY support path for the THREE DPS classes. Competition is fierce for your time and effort in hunting. Early leveling is very hard and tedious. Later leveling is tedious and hard work. After 99 and the race for stats happens, is hard work. To be honest, if you hunt with fighters your stats or even a bit less, will ALWAYS be hard work. This is the one path that get's static increase spells and not stat increase spells. It is the "balance" path that sets the exp per hour limit based on healing ability. It is the hardest path to play and eventually your healing abilities will be outpaced by warrior/rogues stat based attacks. The problems in the one support path make it the only "dead end" path in this game and most top poets quit hunting or quit playing altogether.

To sum it up. A great game with excellent game play, roleplay and PVP combat but so poorly managed that honestly it isn't worth your $10. Go play something else, in the end you'll enjoy it more.
