Have someone here got their creditcards misused?

I have never played any MMORPG's before because creditcards is the only way to pay the monthly fee. And my parents don't want to share som info about their creditcards on the internet.

But have anyone got experienced misuse of their creditcards??

I personally have never had a problem using my card online and i use it for mmorpg's and to buy stuff.

The main way you can get your card misused is if you have a virus/trojen/keylogger on your system without you knowing, so just make sure you anivirus is upto date, or if you not got one you can get a very good free one from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php .

Once your details are entered on the games website you are pritty safe.

There is an alternative out there for some of the bigger games which are game cards that you can buy from gaming stores.

i've had subscriptions to quite a few MMO's but i dont own a credit card... thankfully most MMO's out there allow alternative payment options... i usually just send a money order, which is pretty much as simple as going down to your local post office... also alot of the bigger name games sell "time cards"...

the only games i can think of that REQUIRE a credit card are FFXI and PSO... most other games will allow alternative payment options...

I have Norton Antivirus 2005, so the chance that someone can get that info is minimal?

I live in Norway and i haven't seen game/time cards in all the game shops i have been to.
    Sad, but true image

I have downloaded "The Saga of Ryzom," just to try a MMORPG game, but before I can start I have to fill in payment info.

Do someone know about free trials where you don't need a creditcard on some MMORPG's game that I can download.
Have seen free trial on Ryzom (Must fill in payment options), SWG (It wasn't free trial anymore)

I've been playing MMORPG's and online games for well over 7 years now and have never had an issue with credit card fraud.  In all honesty, the only real way to have your account waxed is if you TELL someone your card number.  Anyone with any type of virus scan software can rid themselves of most chances to get hacked.

VISA and MASTERCARD both have policies that protect you 100% if your card is misused from an Internet transaction...

    Ok, tnx for your answers.

I hope I can convince my parents that it isn't dangerous to pay with creditcard on internet

I had a fraudulent charge on one of my cards this year. It wasn't from playing an MMO it was from a rogue company out to make a quick buck and steal from consumers. Needless to say my CC company quickly remedied this problem and sent me a new card with a different acct number (of course). I had zero problems getting this straightened up. CC companies want your business, they will try to keep you no matter what.

If you use an anti-virus/anti-spyware program and only buy from places that are trustworthy (bigger name mmorpg's are all trustworthy) you should be very safe, your dad probably has more of a chance losing his credit card info on the walk to work :P

Eve Online kept charging my account after I unsubscribed but that isnt anything a letter to the credit card company cant fix.  Just stick to trustworthy companies and you are fine.

Yep I buy a lot (books, cds, games, dvds, ...) from the internet because there are a lot of bargains you can make when you browse around and take some time to search properly. For example I use amazon frequently.

never had any problems, my parents were not so happy with it at first but after six years or so we never had any problems we couldn't easily solve.

Like said before use big names because they can't allow it when it becomes known that people are having problems with their CC when they use it on their website.

One day all will die, surely you but never I.

I have played many MMOs and have never once had credit card mis-use. The majority of the games are run by legitamate companys offering a service and follow the laws of their country. If you decide to go with it and are affraid of misuse, just keep good records of all transactions (transaction numbers, terminations, etc.). If it is security you are worried about, just remember it is just as easy to get your number over the phone. Security has gotten a lot better on the web than in previous years. One strategy is to get a credit card of little value (say $500 limit) so if, in the unlikely event someone does get a hold of it, you will lose little (which a simple call will usually fix anyway). Some companies also offer "Game Cards". Check your local video game store or their website for details on these.

    I hope this helps.
