I tend to disagree, a lot of friends still reminisce about pre cu swg and I am pretty sure they would come back if they were to do a server or two of pre cu roll backs. As for hurting TOR if they were to do pre cu server launch same time as TOR launch I would be torn, "a day in the life of star wars" vs "a day in the life of a hero (very much like wow)" I might have to take the first. Granted I am VERY excited for TOR to come out but pre cu was so original in its own way and it brought so many people together in the game. I am sure it would do the same and I would be able to make new friends just as I had done before.
Doubt it will happen though, SOE is not nearly smart enough or should I say smedly isnt. This would be a great marketing move for SWG but since when has SOE ever been remotely good at marketing?! haha SOE = Fail at life so I dont even worry about it because I know it wont happen.
if $OE brings back the pre-cu tor is done for i don't see ppl playing a lame class based game i see everyone going to the game that offers 32+ mix and match professions with more to do
Why all the hate? You can easily play SWG pre-cu for free now as well as play TOR when it get's released. Honestly it will be the best of both worlds.
you don't get it do you
tor much like every other mmo on the planet sucks it is level based bs for the so called casual gamer those gamers are a fad just like the people playing their xboxs and what not infact they should not call themselfs gamers at all
bioware has shown that they wish to ruin what could be a great title by giving into the casual gamers who will after a week run back to watching mtv or the wwf
i want games for gamers like it was back when games where hard and fun
It will never happen. Too much time and effort involved in making the change and time/effort = money. SOE is not willing to push more cash into an SWG project that will most likely just become a dark void/vacuum once SW: tOR launches. The only way this would work... reboot SWG entirely. Wipe all servers and completely start over. I don't think anyone currently playing the game would go for that. Personally, I've had multiple accounts, Elder Jedi, blah, blah, blah... and yes, I'd vote for a complete reboot of the game IF it meant the original combat system, professions, and 'levelling system'. Bottomline though, what I miss most about SWG are my friends and playing the game with them. Since the launches of the CU and NGE, I haven't really seen many of them playing. Technical changes in the game drove my friends away, but I'm not sure (at this point) that technical changes would bring them back. I'd love to say it would, but I just don't think so. SOE burned their player base and destroyed any sense of loyalty we had. I have zero faith in SOE, and this carries over to their other titles... not just SWG. Again, I doubt preCU servers would really do much to SW:tOR, mostly because it just won't ever happen. And yeah, Smed is a turd of a human being.
I'm pretty sure we crossed paths in SWG, and to answer the question: "no, technical changes would not bring me back," and I know that's true of many former players. Simple fact is most of us feel that Smed treated us like shit. over an over again. I don't have to put up with that kind of nonsense, and I refuse to tolerate it in an entertainment service that I'm paying for. I still don't much like the way SOE seems to treat their players. That's really what it's all about for me at this point. Even if they made some technical change that I liked, I expect they'd yank it out from under me as soon as some new intern got some bright idea about how to make Smed some extra cash. It seems like a lot of the resources are going into the virtual card game, and random loot via RMT. I already play and enjoy two trading card games with friends, and I don't want to pay a subscription fee PLUS RMT to try to get the latest items for an MMO.

Knock that off, it hasn't even been released yet and you're saying it sucks? And to that last part, it sounds like you shouldn't even be playing ANY MMO. Bioware hasn't ruined a single game in the past, if you're going to say KOTOR 2 then look up who made it because it wasn't Bioware.
Very interesting puzzle you ask...we must consult Yoda on this one!
- hmmm TOR? What know you of Ready, for 800 years have I trained Jedi and my own counsel will I keep of what is to be gamed! Pre-CU is more serious, More Complete! Tor is pretty but has not yet show itself to have the Layers of depth needed to be one with the Force.

pre cu cannot happen without LA's approval...the end
Lol, how the heck could you possibly know that...
I remember hearing the same crap with Bioware's "Secret" MMO: "It can't be Star Wars LP", "It's not Star Wars", "Impossible, won't be Star Wars", blah blah...
What happened? SWTOR Announced
It's clear that SWTOR is going to be a blast at first. However, the old veteran class system is going to sink in and most will get tired of their lack of freedom - much like SWG today. SWG's ONLY chance is to release Classic SWG around when SWTOR launches.
Its more likely SWG won't even be running by the time TOR is released...
I think this depends on how well this upcoming and subsequent new TCG lottery ticket additions (called expansions) sells.
I seriously doubt that LEC will allow SWG to continue. If they were so hot on it or SOE, why is Bioware developing the sequel?
SWG will likely wind down sometime around TOR's release or public beta. SOE pretty much has to do that, most of their shrunken player base is going to leave for the new game, and the closer we get to TOR's release, TCG sales are going to dry up even if they start including "godmode" cards. People simply won't put real money into something that's not going to be there.

exactly....LA has to give the go ahead, it's their IP, and it's been stated by soe that any little change or update, including artwork, must be approved by LA first
I would think if it was going to happen, it would have by now. Even Smed admitted they screwed the pooch with NGE.
I thought I read somewhere (maybe I was hallucinating) that SOE no longer had the code for pre-CU SWG. If that's true, the odds of a pre-CU server are zero even if LA would OK it.

Smed said that they screwed the communication of the NGE pooch not the NGE itself.
I would have loved to play on Pre-CU servers again, but that was 4 years ago. SOE has burned so many bridges since then they can never expect to win back their old player-base. That means they would have to target players that do not know their history of screwing up excellent games, (EQ, SWG, VG) and honestly why would a new player want to start out on a 6 year old game that lacks the polish of newer games?
They'll offer pre-cu or pre nge servers at the exact moment in time when it would make the least amount of money.
If they do, expect around the same time in its life when EQ got whatever theirs' is called. When they think they're done with the current game, nothing else to add or change other than more of the same. If it's still around. I guess at that point they let the devs do whatever they want or something. Or maybe the emu will go live, and they won't bother. I'd play it, but I dont really care if they ever do.
Pre-cu being thrown at TOR? SOE doesnt have the balls, or the approval. If anything, SMED will /lick TOR in every interview he possibly can. Don't want to endanger losing LA games on ps3 or ps4, whatever one they're on now. Also, It wouldn't do or accomplish anything. Maybe good for some laughs by some people.
See you in the dream.. The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
Maybe they can work together. Yeah. TOR can contain a Disgruntled Veteran class,,,,where all your avatar does is play Pre-CU at his home on <pick your favorite...non exploded....planet>...yes..a quaint little gaming experience in a galaxy longer ago and far far away....meant to be in its future..but looking more like its past.

This. If there is one thing that SOE has beaten Blizzard at it's the art of pissing customers off and burning through player bases. But then again WoW probably has more players quit in a month (to be replaced by others) than SOE has TOTAL players across all their games.
I see the closing of MXO as the first step in the inevitable closing down of the rest of SOE.
Wouldn't make a difference sure it would bring back a few players, mainly crafters. But w/out pvp'ers and hunters not much demand for those craftables.
the only thing worth saving from the pre cu was the class system. People would go back today and play for 2 weeks and realize how bad the game really was and then quit because of how bad the game is by todays standards for mmo's.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off , why should I. Light up the darkness Bob Marley

What a short-sighted and misthought post. A pre-cu SWG server would only bring back the thousand or so SWG 'veterans' that have taken on moaning about how good SWG used to be and how SOE robbed them of their life meaning.
I am an SWG vet and would not resubscribe if they made pre-cu server right now. The fact is, there are better games out there at the moment, SWG in ints original form would be severely out-dated and simply not competitive enough to bring in enough new players to warrant such a change.
the PreCU combat system would certainly make the current game more tolerable, but it won't bring enough players to SWG to make it matter.
SWG is finally going to bring in BattleFields. The people that are still playing the game are pretty excited about it, but that's just because 1) it's new content to the game and 2) after 5 years, they are finally getting a feature that has been in other games since they launched.
There aren't enough players in SWG for any changes to make much of an impact there.
Official pre-cu servers will never happen, period.
Think about it logically. In its heyday, SWG had 300-400k accounts, being generous? Quite good for the time (pre-WoW), but even if all those people returned (which they wouldn't) and even if they all bought multiple accounts (which they wouldn't), that's still less than a million subs, and as has been pointed out before, the current SWG dev team doesn't have the knowledge or manpower to maintain the old code in a profitable fashion.
It simply won't ever happen, ever.
Even if it did, which would you rather play, an SOE classic server, or a classic server run by actual SW fans and featuring the ability to customize the game experience to your liking (and sans subscription fee)?
There is a greater chance of George Lucas admitting that the prequels sucked, re-making them into something quality, and personally distributing new autographed box sets to the front door of every Star Wars fan on the planet (while begging for their eternal forgiveness) than there is of SOE doing a pre-cu SWG server.

My opinion on the battlefields...
16 on 16 PvP as a bandaid for the severe latency people experience in mass PvP. You watch...miraculously all latency issues will suddenly be cured.
Although it hasn't been stated, I suspect SOE will be losing it's Lucas license. Bioware would not spend the money it has without some kind of provision in that regard.
9-10,000 subscribers playing SWG is hardly a competitor or threat to TOR, which will probably LOSE more subscribers in it's first month than the NGE game has.
I suspect that the shutdown will be SOE's choice, and the only thing keeping it open are the few hundred fanbois who are going nuts buying TCG lottery tickets by the dozen. That will dry up when TOR releases.
