It's not fair! 1 week before SOE released Everquest 2, I get accepted to the Beta-testing, I try the game, I like it. I kept my Dark Age of Camelot account active... until today... I cancelled it... why? Cause EQ2 is actually fun.
I'm crying cause DaoC is fun too... but I still bought EQ2 in stores, and I'm playing it like crazy cause it's fun. More fun than DaoC? Well... I loved the fact that in DaoC you can solo a lot more than in EQ2. So far in EQ2 I never solo... cause I make 10 times more XP when in group. And if you group, you can go up 1-2 levels a day. In DaoC if I solo I can easily go up a level per day or 3-4 levels when in group.

And to think Catacombs is coming out next month too... DAMN YOU SOE!!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!! Why did you have to make EQ2 a good game! Why???

Well enjoy yourself and if you get bored be sure to check back with daoc. I remember how much fun i was having in SWG when it first came out. I kept me having fun for about 3 months. I hope that everquest 2 doenst do that for you.
One thing about eq2 that I did like is the crafting, but the rest of it didnt do to much for me. But to be fair, I didnt put that much time in it.

The game is very good! has a huge fan bace.... and a lot of people cam back to it from SWG, L2, FFXI, and others that I cant think of it... why? Cuse DAoC is a older game that alwase updaits there game to match games coming out and it has 3 years of content.... new games coming out dont have all that much content! The PVP system is one of the best out there to date!
I'm a DAoC fan all the way and dont plan on going any where... ill try other games... but I will alwase come home.

Well, if EQ2 does get boring, I'm definatly coming back to DaoC.
Man, I'm wasting so much money on video games, I'm almost sure I'll buy Catacombs anyways, reactivate my account and try it anyways... just to see how DaoC looks like and I'll end up switching in between EQ2 and DaoC.
I was going to do that too... keep my DaoC account active while playing EQ2. But since EQ2 is so time consumming in the beginning levels, I found it hard to keep myself from stop playing EQ2 to give myself a good 1-2 hours to invest in DaoC.
But hey, like you said... if EQ2 ever does seem to lack the replay value, I will return... I never found myself bored in DaoC in both solo and group play.

FYI : I now see for the first time ever the first beta in the history of betas that takes on the status of a release while being in beta status. YES !!! World of Warcraft.. I never get booted off the servers when we fight in RVR .. I see some lag issues with looting but nothing like the so called release of DAOC. I think DAOC should look into how WOW is done, because DAOC still runs like a beta today.
Hell the quest actually complete in beta on wow. Friggin DAOC still has quite a few quests that dont work today even after 3 years released.

21640 on at 9:30 cst, Tuesday evening. Yep wow is killing it. Boy oh boy just who will i find to group with. These are with people paying to play. Well, I will say that DAoC held my attention longer than any MMORPG before it (except for UO...but that was YEARS ago before EA hosed it). EQ, 1 week. AC2, 30 minutes. Horizons, 1.5 weeks. Lineage 2, 2 weeks. Neocron, 2 days. Shadowbane 1 day. DAoC on the other hand I played for a total of about 5 months before getting totally burned out. Its not that its a bad game, its just that I dont have the time to dedicate to GRINDING to get to the really fun PVP. I did get in some really great groups for dungeon crawling and that was an incredible experience. Unfortunately, those experiences were few and far between and I never did find a good guild to play with and get close to. Also, the travel times to me were FAR too long even on horseback, although admittedly, most MMORPGs have that problem.
DAoC in its day, had a lot going for it. The community was great, the graphics and interface superior to EQ's and the game was fun. I played it from release until about a week ago. The problem was, that much of what originally made DAoC the best out there, has been changed, or done better by the latest MMORPGs on the market.
I had the opportunity to beta test the latest expansion Catacombs, World of Warcraft, as well as EQII. The sad thing was, that after testing out both EQII and World of Warcraft, I found that even after the Catacombs expansion, they were far superior to DAoC in almost every aspect.
This had not previously been the case. I have tested Lineage II, Horizons, played Anarchy Online, Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies, and none of them were better enough than DAoC to warrant a switch. In fact several of those games have now fallen on "hard times".
I wonder if it is now DAoC's turn to feel the axe upon its neck. Mark Jacobs himself admitted he was aware of the impact that WoW and EQII would have on his game.
My advice: play either World of Warcraft or EQII. Both are fun, and have excellent graphics, quests, and crafting systems. In the end I chose World of Warcraft over EQII because my system is a little old, and it runs better. Also I like the option of playing a PvP server from time to time.
In the end I believe that you will feel your money was better spent.
I played EQ2. It was exactly what I expected from the beta. The beta was great, in that small amount of time it was so much fun. When I played the retail version, it was fun to that point too, then got very boring in the long run.
And well WoW apperantly it's lagging like crazy. I finally saw the game from my own eyes... and I hate the cartoony graphics.
Sure DaoC has crappy graphics now, but with CATACOMBS, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! The game is gonna look so damn nice.
Bah... screw SWG with JTL, screw EQ2 and screw WoW... I'm actually gonna re-activate DaoC right now to get ready for Catacombs.
It's the only MMORPG I've ever played where I love the gameplay, where I love the CSR's and where I will love the graphics.

Havent you been visiting the wow forums lately? The game sucked at launch.. ppl getting kicked off their server, after waiting for 1 to 2 hours just trying to log on.
And when they finally logged on... Lag all over the place and game crashes sending everybody right back into the waiting line for a server.
Dont think i ever saw a worse launch for an mmorpg. Nah ill stick to DAOC for now.

EQ2 had the same problem. It's so stupid though, they are huge companies, not some tiny not-known company. they saw the huge sales, but instead of investing money into faster servers, they try to force people to quit the busy servers and join a less busy server JUST SO they can save money.
Anyways, whatever... only reason I'm not buying WoW now is because of that... I don't want to be frustrated like I was with the EQ2 launch.
And besides... who needs EQ2 and WoW... CATACOMBS IS COMING IN A FEW DAYS!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been playing DAoC now for 5 years, and am still enjoying it. I've tried out other MMORPGs and none have had a lasting impression like DAoC.
As far as leaving to go to another mmo. I for one am not. Also I play with a group of about 10 people all the time. We have moved from several mmos together. All my friends agree that they are happy where they are atm. We are looking forward to Catacombs and will be purchasing it.
That's one of the biggest staying factors for me and my guild. We have a group of people that play together, and have been playing together for years. Some of my guildies have been with me for over 10 years now, and many follow and stay with the guild from game to game.
As for the comments above about now Alb being the underpopulated realm, I just have to say that it's like the tides. Everything goes up, and then back down. I've watched on my server, and others, where the dominating realm switches back and forth numerous times between Alb, Mid, and Hib. Change is inevitable, and is one of the things that keep it fun.
I cant see any longer lasting motivations in daoc anymore. The other games will not have an impact on the daoc community but the game has reached a point where improvements are no big advances anymore. Every expansion brings more classes, more items and more zones. If this keeps you happy then go on playing but i think that sooner or later it will bore you. If it will not then you re addicted to it.
I agree totally that DAoC won't get "killed" by new MMORPG's....I am in the Navy stationed in Italy and am currently unable to game...over the last few years ive been a DAoC player and I have several 50's on Pellinor Albion and Tristan Midgard....
There have been several occassions when new games have come out that i had been waiting for that i didnt play DAoC for a couple months while i tried out the new games...Shadowbane, SWG, Lineage 2 - but i always end up back on DAoC -
As much as people are constantly busting Mythic for what they are doing to the game, i think all in all they are doing a good job - they upgrade the graphics in EVERY expansion, they add new content for free (good or bad) - housing, and new frontiers.....
I like DAoC and I cant wait to get the Catacombs Xpack and check that out....

That is with every mmorpg! Most players would quickly move on to other games if there were not something new added to the game. I got bored and pissed off at Mythic and went around to a bunch of different games for a few months. I could not find a single one that kept my interest. It is the some old crap. Create a character, go kill, get a level, get items to make you stronger, etc. The only thing that DAOC has that most others do not is RvR. New games offer new things to look at and do, but underneath it all it is the same as every other game.
Every game will suffer the same problem after it hits around 18 months. There is a large amount of content, but players will not want to spend more of their time to level up a starting character. So they will end up being powerleveled or simply not played. Since it is not a "new" game there will not be a large influx of new players. This does a lot to kill off the new player base. Mythic has done a lot to address the problem, but it is not perfect. In fact no game has ever really handeled it well. What a game would need is simply a continuous large growth of its player base in order to achieve this. No game can really have that for a substantial period of time. The most an mmorpg can hope for is a steady influx of new players to replace the ones who leave.

Ok 2 weeks have passed long time ago so lets finish this topic.
EQ2 and WoW will never kill DAoC even after mounth DAoC still have same ammount of players, and i can tell you why.
1) WoW pulled many new players that never played real mmorpg (most are just warcraft fans)(personaly i dont like grafic animation and play style in it)but bether than EQ2 for me.Also Blizzard is making evry thing so looong but some time rush(they dont have any exp in crating mmorpg) but there is always time to learn.
2)I dont see a point in playing EQ2 after you reach lvl cap. Shure you can start a new char and what lvl and lvl again, all clerics are same all paladins shadow knights, you can make your self difren in skills so if you made one sorc you wont make nother one ever again, starting race dont realy affect what will your char become at the end. (some ppl realise that from the begining) (this game will hold just a litle longer than SWG)
3)DAoC has created best balance in pve and pvp i have ever seen, they always fixing bugs and problems if you find any, i was vondering how much buff bots are realy on ( at 490 players on hib there was only 30-40 buff bots and atlest 10 ppl offer me buffs from them since they dont use them atm) and at the same time there was 15 regr.... speced druids (healers not buffers) and i never seen that nightshade win agenst paladin (most ppl are crying cus they cant kill some class but it will be fun to see how cleric wins in cleric VS 2 Savages or rune master VS infiltrator (last one is poseble cus this game depends on your skills and how you speced your avatar)
btw lets see how well radar is working now, hehehe if you dont need your accoun. And who saied that ther are problems that cannot be fixed.

FYI : I now see for the first time ever the first beta in the history of betas that takes on the status of a release while being in beta status. YES !!! World of Warcraft.. I never get booted off the servers when we fight in RVR .. I see some lag issues with looting but nothing like the so called release of DAOC. I think DAOC should look into how WOW is done, because DAOC still runs like a beta today.
Hell the quest actually complete in beta on wow. Friggin DAOC still has quite a few quests that dont work today even after 3 years released.

I did notice the large decrease in population the last few days on DAOC and laughed .. Your all right DAOC is not going anywhere. lol .. ANYWHERE!! Its now on my shelf going nowhere, Hell id bet if WOW still had the open beta opened to the public it would have killed DAOC population.

21640 on at 9:30 cst, Tuesday evening. Yep wow is killing it. Boy oh boy just who will i find to group with. These are with people paying to play. Wow is in open beta and everyone that wants to try it out is playing it. I wonder how many peeps will actually buy it. I am sure a lot but nothing in comparison to what is playing now.

If you dont like the game then dont play it. But dont come in here and exaggerate bugs and issues with the game that dont exist. You make it sound like the game is unplayable. I run into maybe a bug once a week and have never run into a game stopping bug.

Well, I will say that DAoC held my attention longer than any MMORPG before it (except for UO...but that was YEARS ago before EA hosed it). EQ, 1 week. AC2, 30 minutes. Horizons, 1.5 weeks. Lineage 2, 2 weeks. Neocron, 2 days. Shadowbane 1 day. DAoC on the other hand I played for a total of about 5 months before getting totally burned out. Its not that its a bad game, its just that I dont have the time to dedicate to GRINDING to get to the really fun PVP. I did get in some really great groups for dungeon crawling and that was an incredible experience. Unfortunately, those experiences were few and far between and I never did find a good guild to play with and get close to. Also, the travel times to me were FAR too long even on horseback, although admittedly, most MMORPGs have that problem.
DAoC in its day, had a lot going for it. The community was great, the graphics and interface superior to EQ's and the game was fun. I played it from release until about a week ago. The problem was, that much of what originally made DAoC the best out there, has been changed, or done better by the latest MMORPGs on the market.
I had the opportunity to beta test the latest expansion Catacombs, World of Warcraft, as well as EQII. The sad thing was, that after testing out both EQII and World of Warcraft, I found that even after the Catacombs expansion, they were far superior to DAoC in almost every aspect.
This had not previously been the case. I have tested Lineage II, Horizons, played Anarchy Online, Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies, and none of them were better enough than DAoC to warrant a switch. In fact several of those games have now fallen on "hard times".
I wonder if it is now DAoC's turn to feel the axe upon its neck. Mark Jacobs himself admitted he was aware of the impact that WoW and EQII would have on his game.
My advice: play either World of Warcraft or EQII. Both are fun, and have excellent graphics, quests, and crafting systems. In the end I chose World of Warcraft over EQII because my system is a little old, and it runs better. Also I like the option of playing a PvP server from time to time.
In the end I believe that you will feel your money was better spent.
Well... EQ2 and WoW are out.
I played EQ2. It was exactly what I expected from the beta. The beta was great, in that small amount of time it was so much fun. When I played the retail version, it was fun to that point too, then got very boring in the long run.
And well WoW apperantly it's lagging like crazy. I finally saw the game from my own eyes... and I hate the cartoony graphics.
Sure DaoC has crappy graphics now, but with CATACOMBS, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! The game is gonna look so damn nice.
Bah... screw SWG with JTL, screw EQ2 and screw WoW... I'm actually gonna re-activate DaoC right now to get ready for Catacombs.
It's the only MMORPG I've ever played where I love the gameplay, where I love the CSR's and where I will love the graphics.

Havent you been visiting the wow forums lately? The game sucked at launch.. ppl getting kicked off their server, after waiting for 1 to 2 hours just trying to log on.
And when they finally logged on... Lag all over the place and game crashes sending everybody right back into the waiting line for a server.
Dont think i ever saw a worse launch for an mmorpg. Nah ill stick to DAOC for now.
EQ2 had the same problem. It's so stupid though, they are huge companies, not some tiny not-known company. they saw the huge sales, but instead of investing money into faster servers, they try to force people to quit the busy servers and join a less busy server JUST SO they can save money.
Anyways, whatever... only reason I'm not buying WoW now is because of that... I don't want to be frustrated like I was with the EQ2 launch.
And besides... who needs EQ2 and WoW... CATACOMBS IS COMING IN A FEW DAYS!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been playing DAoC now for 5 years, and am still enjoying it. I've tried out other MMORPGs and none have had a lasting impression like DAoC.
That's one of the biggest staying factors for me and my guild. We have a group of people that play together, and have been playing together for years. Some of my guildies have been with me for over 10 years now, and many follow and stay with the guild from game to game.
As for the comments above about now Alb being the underpopulated realm, I just have to say that it's like the tides. Everything goes up, and then back down. I've watched on my server, and others, where the dominating realm switches back and forth numerous times between Alb, Mid, and Hib. Change is inevitable, and is one of the things that keep it fun.
I agree totally that DAoC won't get "killed" by new MMORPG's....I am in the Navy stationed in Italy and am currently unable to game...over the last few years ive been a DAoC player and I have several 50's on Pellinor Albion and Tristan Midgard....
There have been several occassions when new games have come out that i had been waiting for that i didnt play DAoC for a couple months while i tried out the new games...Shadowbane, SWG, Lineage 2 - but i always end up back on DAoC -
As much as people are constantly busting Mythic for what they are doing to the game, i think all in all they are doing a good job - they upgrade the graphics in EVERY expansion, they add new content for free (good or bad) - housing, and new frontiers.....
I like DAoC and I cant wait to get the Catacombs Xpack and check that out....

That is with every mmorpg! Most players would quickly move on to other games if there were not something new added to the game. I got bored and pissed off at Mythic and went around to a bunch of different games for a few months. I could not find a single one that kept my interest. It is the some old crap. Create a character, go kill, get a level, get items to make you stronger, etc. The only thing that DAOC has that most others do not is RvR. New games offer new things to look at and do, but underneath it all it is the same as every other game.
Every game will suffer the same problem after it hits around 18 months. There is a large amount of content, but players will not want to spend more of their time to level up a starting character. So they will end up being powerleveled or simply not played. Since it is not a "new" game there will not be a large influx of new players. This does a lot to kill off the new player base. Mythic has done a lot to address the problem, but it is not perfect. In fact no game has ever really handeled it well. What a game would need is simply a continuous large growth of its player base in order to achieve this. No game can really have that for a substantial period of time. The most an mmorpg can hope for is a steady influx of new players to replace the ones who leave.

Ok 2 weeks have passed long time ago so lets finish this topic.
EQ2 and WoW will never kill DAoC even after mounth DAoC still have same ammount of players, and i can tell you why.
1) WoW pulled many new players that never played real mmorpg (most are just warcraft fans)(personaly i dont like grafic animation and play style in it)but bether than EQ2 for me.Also Blizzard is making evry thing so looong but some time rush(they dont have any exp in crating mmorpg) but there is always time to learn.
2)I dont see a point in playing EQ2 after you reach lvl cap. Shure you can start a new char and what lvl and lvl again, all clerics are same all paladins shadow knights, you can make your self difren in skills so if you made one sorc you wont make nother one ever again, starting race dont realy affect what will your char become at the end. (some ppl realise that from the begining) (this game will hold just a litle longer than SWG)
3)DAoC has created best balance in pve and pvp i have ever seen, they always fixing bugs and problems if you find any, i was vondering how much buff bots are realy on ( at 490 players on hib there was only 30-40 buff bots and atlest 10 ppl offer me buffs from them since they dont use them atm) and at the same time there was 15 regr.... speced druids (healers not buffers) and i never seen that nightshade win agenst paladin (most ppl are crying cus they cant kill some class but it will be fun to see how cleric wins in cleric VS 2 Savages or rune master VS infiltrator (last one is poseble cus this game depends on your skills and how you speced your avatar)
btw lets see how well radar is working now, hehehe if you dont need your accoun. And who saied that ther are problems that cannot be fixed.
