EQ1 PvP Losing Members, WOW Gaining Them

nonjonronnonjonron Member Posts: 139

Interesting trend on EQ1 PvP servers.  If you believe the Sony message boards, EQ1 PvP servers are losing members with the advent of WOW and probably EQ2.  Will this inspire Sony to step up to PvP in EQ2?  Dunno.  Here is an interesting extract from the EQ1 Message Board from the message board:

Are the Zeks dying? YES! On SZ, the best guild on the goodie team has completely died, they get 3-4 people on max now. Newt team only gets high numbers on weekends. Evil team still has higher numbers, but their numbers are dropping as well, and this is all before WoW has been officially released. We barely get over 100 people in bazaar, and 80 people in PoK. The server has had a HUGE population decline.

How can we fix this? Server transfers! Merge all PvP servers into one, take the ruleset from the highest population server! I don't log on any other PvP servers, but if they are losing people as bad as SZ, each server will be a ghost town. SoE can either decide if they wanna merge all to an already existing server, or make an entirely new server. Once that is decided, give each account a FREE 1 way server transfer option to move to the new server. The transfer should only be allowed to the new server, PvP enabled of course.I know from a recent poll in my guild, that most of our players would move to another server in a heart beat.

Hopefully Sony looks at the population on the PvP servers, and realizes that server transfers are the only way to make the PvP servers fun again. Very soon after WoW is released a lot of guilds (at least on SZ) won't even have the numbers to raid, which will lead to a lot of players cancelling their accounts. I myself don't wanna stop playing EQ, I would much rather transfer to a new server w/ a higher population and continue playing EQ. But if server transfers aren't allowed, SZ WILL be a dead server soon, and I will cancel my account and start playing WoW.

Interesting, but, that's one person's opinion of what is occuring.  I don't play EQ1, so I don't have any opinion on it myself.  But without multiple people posting confirming this "apparent decline", I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Also, another thing to consider is, it was just a holiday in the US.  Perhaps this observation was made while many people took time out to go home and visit family?

Well sucks for EQ1 then, I admit the communities so far on EQ2 are so much more friendlier without all the lil PK jerks running around wacking you just to giggle.   Though the addition of Qeynos vs Freeport guild wars in the future when guilds are more powerful, would be kinda cool.  Right now peole are so spread out you rarely see Freeport people if your from Qeynos.

Um and btw this is the Everquest 2 boards what does that have to do with EQ1??

EQ has had tough times before,  new games come people flock to them, then slowly the hard core players slowly come back.   WoW is a phenomena,  anyone who ever played a MMORPG owes themselves to give WoW a try.  But don't write EQ off after a bad week. Personnally after a week, I am back in EQ 2, not being a hard core Warcraft player but a 4 year EQ vet,  I find it a lot more fun entering Blackburrow, than making it to Stormwind for the first time.....

I played EQ, EQ2,  and Wow beta.

I thought they all sucked.  So I dont understand why so many people play the games.

*shrug* not my buisness I guess,.  but it is kind of sad.  These games arent worth 150$ a year plus 50% for the game purchase.  No way.  Especially for all the time and torture you have to endure to "beat" the "entertainment" you are succumbing to.

They should pay us 50$ an hour to endure the boring grinds these featureless, repetitive,  unimmersive MMORPG games we live with on this planet.

    here's a question:

if this thread is about EQ1 losing players, then why is it on the EQ2 boards?

When i played up to 2001 EQ1 pvp servers were the least populated  one.Not sure since then.

Truth is if i want pvp EQ1 is the last place i look for it because pvp for 3 years(again duno what happened after i left) was very undeveloped.

this guy is a moron, pvp on the zeks has been shit ever since the velious expack when the world became too big to find anyone...   kunark should have been the last expak for the zeks cause of pop density and the lack of pvp when you spread out ppl too much

    moving to EQ

Has nothing to do with EQ2

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

It's been a Holiday week, new game releases, not just WoW and EQ2, but HalfLife 2, Doom 3 and I'm sure I saw another new title, what can you expect, ofcourse theres going to be an affect.

On top of which, as someone pointed out, EQ PvP servers have always had the lowest server populations. Thats why there are only 3 of them, out of some 30 odd world servers...

SOE is a business. A business to make money, I doubt very seriously if they will let EQ just vanish. No, before they let go of EQ, they will be sure to have milked all the players for every last dime they can get, before they shut those servers down. In the meantime they are trying to get bored and jaded players to move to EQ2, instead of WoW or stand-alone-PC games. I would expect to see a few game offers for joining EQ2 or even an offer to "come back" to EQ (DAoC did something like that).

Yes, the population is light. But I see this as a good thing. A weeding process, so to speak. For the first time in a very long time, many of the ID10-Ts in the game are gone - they've moved on to the new games. And until they get bored there or run out of those games, I can actually enjoy my time in EQ.

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me.
