Being a martial artist in real life, an Assassin class of some sort is what I usually go for in MMO's. Let me get to the punch. To me, being an Assassin in Aion is not a point, click, and skill mashing class. I don't think I've put so much thought into this class in a MMO in a while. Once you get used to a good patter and variations, you will find the combat to be good until you get new skillbooks or stigmas.
Evasion & Critical Hit stones manastones are your friend. They should be on all your gear (and I'd only put critical Hits on weapons). Also duel daggers are better than duel swords. I have been questioned why in the picture above I have a rare dagger and a rare sword. The sword is from a hidden quest (you wouldn't notice it unless you explore nooks and crannies in Aion). I would rather use the sword till I get the next best dagger. Those weapons don't come cheap. I also carry a (weak bow or whatever i pick up) to lure a mob from a group.
In this game being an assassin pays off in higher levels, but playing smart pays off too. Early on it can be tough at times and you may not be able to hold off some stronger mobs by yourself without resting. I think in US/EA version you will have a lot of friends to help you out. Me, I only had stayontarget and another American.
I can't tell you the exact way I fight, because I don't feel like poping open my skill list, but basically it's all about buffing up, going in hide, go from behind and using a skill that is most effective behind the enemy. You can't be afraid of getting too close to the enemy, because one of your most important buffs that boost crit, is only 3 seconds, hiding asap even when they see you (MGS style with the ! ) you can still go in hide and get away.
Most fustrating thing is there are some mobs that hide don't even work on. They can see you creeping even in hide mode. The radar is your best friend because you can see the radius of their aggro and as long as you stay out of it, your ok. It's like Metal Gear in a way. Hide is also your best way of navagating though dangerous mobs. My path to being a good Assassin was not easy, and the language barrier didn't help neither, even if I DO know some Chinese, but I feel that in US version it's going to be a cakewalk for me from my experience. It will also be able to teach a few people too.
Anyway back to the subject, one of the most confusing things I had to learn on my own was signet. Carving a patern into the monster with some skills and then erasing the pattern with another skill (such as an explosion, stunned, or an aerial trap). Mastering when to use it and when to erase it in PVP is pretty difficult. At level 34 I can run at an Archer, carve in a Long Range Signet and then erase that and send you in the are and be right behind you with Ambush and take your life.
Sounds easy, but it's not that easy. To be honest, early on I used to get ganked a lot in Abyss. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to PVP still, but me being a non PVPer, this game has really made me look at PVP as fun. If anyone have questions about my class I'm free to answer. I think it's better than me yapping all night right?

I have a question for you, but its not assassin related. I hope thats ok!
I was wondering, I've only see then first few levels in Aion, and does it break off and become more group mob grinding, like say FFOnline, or Linneage, or is it more questy like EQ2 and WoW?
Also, what is the max number of people per group. I have some friends and we all want to play together, we have a tank and healer, and a few dps, and I am praying we can all fit in one group.
Sorry if you have been asked this a million times
I'm glad the class I want to play takes real thinking and skill as opposed to WoW Rogues that just put everything in a /castrandom macro and stunlock till your brain melts from redundancy. This really makes me want to try Assassin this weekend during the beta.
Awesome read thanks for the info, still deciding what class I will mainly play when I get into the beta on Friday but Assassin sounds like a fun challenge.
Currently Playing: Everything but MMORPGs
Cancelled: L2, FFXI, VSoH, LotRO, WAR, WoW
Looking Forward To: SW:TOR
It's very easy to get discouraged playing an assassin in the early lvl's. It's very hard (compaired to the other classes) and slow at lvling. But it does get better when you get around lvl34 and this class shines in solo pvp (not sure about group pvp).
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
samelizabeth: Yes, there are sole group missions and areas and you should be visting them around the level of 15+. Thing about group playing is that it also uses strategic moves too. It's not about running and slaughtering. Max amout of people you can group is 6 and thats for grinding and such, but you can do alliance and group 24 people. You see this done mostly in Abyss or when you go though a rift to the opposite Race side. you could also do alliance group and be in different areas. Having a tank and healer is great. Make a good duo. Ask as many questions as you want too. Happy to help.
There are quick marcos you can use in Aion too but, I really haven't played with them.

Thanks for the reply, sounds great as we can all fit in one group The strategic moves sounds similar to FFonline's llimit breaks, but likely more complicated, should be fun to play around with
Yeah, I didn't get easly discouraged, but it takes a lot of willpower and you get to bear the fruits of it as you level up. Leveling is slow too, because we need to rest at times, but past 24 you should see your self resting less and at 34 that's when the class shines as stayontarget says. Solo pvp is good, group is good too depending on the gorup. Say if I was with a Chanter. I can charge the enemy and the be right behind me.
It's hard to know who you really want to kill. You can go after me, but I can be healed or you can go after the healer and I can just crit you in the back. Your choice. In bigger groups, playing the stealth role is still good as well.
