"BioWare folks explained that Star Wars: The Old Republic is being made with all the trimmings of an MMO. Full PvP, groups, raids, guilds, auctions, and crafting will play major parts in the game design and have players building up their resources to battle it out across the galaxy."

Some naysayers have been corrected.  Crafting is in.  Raids are in.  Auctions are in.  Sounding very MMO'ish from this discription.

I'm excited.

Thats not what alot of peoples concerns have been about, its about the gameplay and if its going to be even a remotely open world or instanced to gosh awful death, thats what people want to know

Yeah, great news. Still ... WAR had those at well and it didn't stop it from disappointing majorly.

Though it says a lot, it also says nothing at all, if you catch my drift.

edit: what the poster above me said. We wantses gameplay informations noaw!

umm...this is what every mmo should have as a bare minimum. Also WoW had "pvp" written in the features section, but it was boring poorly implemented system in reality. So yeah, this means nothing.

Well you "this will be a SP" people get some info explaining how it will have lots of group play.

    But it will mean nothing.

I garauntee you the missions like the one they demo'd with the Captain and then end battle with a Jedi will be totally instanced.

Those kind of missions will make up the "core" of the SW:ToR experience and most will likely be able to be solo'd. I'd expect at least a few of these every level, if the game has levels... this portion of the game will play like a single player RPG that you have the option of grouping with other players for. I'm guessing these instanced story missions will make up a good 50% or more of all the content you'll chew through on the way to max level.

Beyond that, there will be fedex quests and more simple kill and fetch quests that will be un-instanced and in the "open world." This will be just like the other 99% of MMOs available now and in development. They may include some limited options, like choosing what direction/decision to make in branching quests, or things like NPCs you fight who when they get to low health you have the option of sparing them or killing them and thus light side/dark side.

PvP will most likely be handled by having PvP and PvE server rule sets. In the PvE rule set you will only be able to attack and kill players of the opposing factions in certain areas on certain planets etc. They'll probably have some kind of influence system where your faction is battling to control the planet, Jedi or Sith and this will be a very large portion of the "end-game" of SW:ToR.

PvP server rule set will be the same but Jedi / Sith faction always able to attack each other, not just in specific combat zones.

So I imagine this game will be very very close in over all feel and design to something like World of Warcraft, but they'll also be throwing in hundreds of this instanced story missions that tell the story of your chosen class and allow you to control the outcome enough to decide your alignment.

They'll likely be regular group-based instanced dungeons and raids as well, as they have elluded to, and crafting I imagine will slightly resemble the crafting in KOTOR 1 in that you'll be able to make all kinds of Pharmaceuticals for stat boosts and heals and debuff removal etc. as well as weapon / armor creation and customization of your armors/weapons/clothers with enhancements like in the KOTOR games.

Sounds like a good game to me. I only question what they will do for end-game PvE raiding. WoW/EQ style dungeons with bosses or more WAR like where the PvE raids are tied to the PvP Sith vs. Jedi factional war and planet control.

We also were explained that most of the game can be 'completed' by soloing.

SW:TOR is still somewhat of a mystery, what we know of gameplay and game mechanics are still very general statements.

We can only sit and wait untill we get some specifics.

I think the gameplay is likely closer to Guild Wars, in particular GW:Nightfall with its changing environments based on instances and story-driven progression, than World of WarCraft.

Bioware is aiming as much for the single-player as the MMO market, and from all we can gather, doesnt really want players to interact freely the majority of the time. It seems to go into a "Other player only if I want to" direction with instancing and very solo-centric gameplay for the majority of the time, and seems to have a certain "end" planned to it, likely the ending of the storyline, after which you can still run around in "free mode" through the areas, but likely lack further goals  for the time being.

A mixture of singleplayer limited gameplay, and MMO freedom, far more controlled and far more moderated than what we know, because that is where the main audience is headed.... the "leave me alone unless you do something for me" syndrome.

Lots of MMOs can be done soloing. This is the turn most MMOs have taken.

True,  what you know is practically nothing. So claiming it to be a single player till this afternoon when we actually see some footage at E3 is silly. Even then who knows exactly what aspect of the game will be shown.

Exactly, which is why saying this game WILL be a SP is completely irrelevant.
